Message from Fr Patrick Wishing you all a blessed Feast of Feasts! Holy Pascha is the highlight of the year, the very focus of our life as Orthodox Christians. It is the most festive service, day, and week on the Church s calendar. We celebrate the saving work of Christ not only once a year, but every Sunday, and we rejoice! Beyond a singular celebration, Great and Holy Pascha is the infiltration of God s Kingdom into the routine of the here-and-now. Like the budding wildflowers and chirping birds, which tell us of the renewed life of Spring - even when it refuses to cooperate - the bay leaves, floral arrangements, candles and colors of Pascha tell us of a new life, a renewal of everything, and a joy that permeates the entire world. They tell us of our home. Whenever I smell roast beef, I think of my grandparents house, and am in an instant transported to their kitchen table. I see the yard off the deck, the tree in the garden with bright orange berries, and my grandpa leafing through a National Geographic magazine at the table, waiting for supper to be ready. The smell of roast beef triggers in me a longing for the innocence of childhood and the comfort of family and home. Just the same, every time we hear Χριστός Ανέστη!, see the church brilliant in candlelight, smell the rose-water on our clothes, and watch as the incense raises to Heaven, we are being given glimpses of our home, the Kingdom of God. Rather than the nostalgia for a time lost to our history through, the experience of Pascha carries the promises of blessings to come, and a reality already upon us. For behold, through the Cross, joy has come into the whole world. Adam and Eve are rescued, and us with them, for Christ is Risen! Pascha is the root of all that the Church does. When we worship, it is because Christ is Risen. When we act kindly, and generously, when we offer forgiveness, we are standing in the light of the Christ s Resurrection. The week after Pascha is called Bright Week as we are wrapped in the brightness of the Feast. But, let us live Bright Lives and never let that light leave us. We are torch-bearers, and ambassadors of God s Kingdom. As Spring reluctantly comes and gives way to Summer, the Holy Trinity family scatters far and near. Family vacations, summer camps, and sports take us to all corners of the country and the world. Let it be our challenge to carry the light, to represent the King of Glory in all we do. And, as we disperse and establish embassies of the Kingdom across the globe, let us designate those places too as sovereign territory of the King. Adorn the embassies with tokens of our home, Light and Life, icons and prayer, always remembering our parish, and who it is named after, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, to Whom be all honor, glory, and worship, now and forever, to the ages of ages! 8 The Ladies Philoptochos Society Announces The Linda Kyriakos Faustini Scholarship Scholarship award is $2, Established in memory of Linda Kyriakos Faustini through a grant from The Rev. Peter N. Kyriakos Endowment Fund Inc, The Linda Kyriakos Faustini Scholarship Fund (LKFS), offers scholarships to promote, encourage, and advance education at the college and university level. The award is based on academic achievement and service to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church community. 1. Eligibility The LKFS is committed to rewarding academic excellence and assisting scholastic achievement for high school students whose families are members of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of New Rochelle, NY. 2. Minimum Eligibility Requirements: a. The applicant is a high school senior planning to attend an accredited college or university during the 2018/2019 academic year. b. The applicant s mother, sister or grandmother is a member, in good standing, of Holy Trinity and Ladies Philoptochos Society of Holy Trinity, New Rochelle. c. Applicants must have maintained a strong academic curriculum. 3. Filing This scholarship form is applicable for year 2018 only. Applicant is responsible for assembling all of the required items listed below and forwarding them in a single package to the Ladies Philoptochos Society of Holy Trinity, New Rochelle. 4.
