3 Third Sunday of Advent (B) Dec. 17, 2017 Reading I: Isaiah 40:1-5,9-11 Responsorial Psalm 85:9-10,11-12,13-14 Reading II: 2 Peter 3:8-14 Gospel: Mark 1:1-8 Theme: He said, I am the voice of one crying out in the desert, 'make straight the way of the Lord (Gospel). In the wilderness, there are many voices. In the wilderness, there are many competing noises and clatters. In the wilderness, there are rattling of dins and confusing voices. But there is only one voice, distinct and clear, loud and unmistakable. It is the voice of conscience. It is the voice of truth and love. It is the voice of God in John the Baptist. The Son of God is near. The Son of God is at hand. Let us prepare the way. Let us prepare our hearts to accommodate him. Let us prepare to meet Him in the lives of those He redeems and loves. Let it be clear to all that He is the Messiah and not John, and not anyone who thinks he/she could be. John insisted that people ought to look pass him. I am not the Messiah, John says. His mission is to prepare and show the way to Him who has all the good news to all people. Are we ready to meet the Lord? Are you prepared to greet Him when He comes? Are you worthy to be with Him when He dwells in you? What do we need to do and how are we going to prepare for His coming? Pray without ceasing. In every circumstance, give thanks, says St. Paul. The will of God has to be fulfilled in us. If we find it hard accomplish this, the Spirit of God will do the work for us. We can all things in Christ. Let us pray: Lord make our day be a day of your love. Calm our minds and comfort our tired hearts. Give us your peace and grant us your forgiveness. Let the joy of your coming be upon us now and always. Amen. I would like to thank Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, M.Sp.S. for blessing the Virgen de Guadalupe Grotto. My gratitude to all parishioners who made this happen by being generous in giving their time and resources. I thank all the sponsors, brick donors, Devotees to the Virgen de Guadalupe. Your work of faith is an amazing grace of God for all to see. God bless you and may those who come to pray in the Grotto receive the blessings of God through the Blessed Virgen de Guadalupe.

4 Parish Mission Statement: To unite our Parish family to grow in faith, love, and charity as we become active stewards in our church and community. Pastoral Reflection Lorraine Pruski, Pastoral Council Guess who's having a birthday very soon. On December 25, 2017, we will again celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Our Almighty God the Father loves us all so very much, He sent his son to us to show us how we should love each other as brothers and sisters, no matter the color of our skin, our ancestry, or the way we worship God the Father. Jesus Christ also died for our sins so we could be together in heaven for all eternity. While John the Baptist, Jesus's cousin, was sent by God to let people know he was there to baptize by water, he proclaimed there was someone much greater than he who would be coming to baptize with the Holy Spirit. This someone is Jesus Christ. What a wonderful gift God has given to us, and keeps giving. Merry Christmas one and all. 7 As Catholics, the Holy Eucharist is the highest form of prayer and the center of our sacramental life. In order to understand better the liturgy and meaning of the Eucharistic celebration, I am publishing the Roman Missal for your reflection and reading. It can also be found in the USCCB website ( I request everyone to read it and especially the ministers to the Holy Eucharist. The Roman Missal Chapter IX: Adaptations Within The Competence Of Bishops And Bishops Conferences 396. However, before proceeding to new adaptations, especially profounder ones, great care shall be taken to promote due instruction of the clergy and the faithful in a wise and orderly manner, so as to take advantage of the faculties already foreseen and to apply fully the pastoral norms in keeping with the spirit of the celebration The principle shall moreover be respected, according to which each particular Church must be in accord with the universal Church not only regarding the doctrine of the faith and sacramental signs, but also as to the usages universally received from apostolic and unbroken tradition. These are to be kept not only so that errors may be avoided, but also so that the faith may be handed on in its integrity, since the Church s rule of prayer (lex orandi) corresponds to her rule of faith (lex credendi).[158] The Roman Rite constitutes a notable and precious part of the liturgical treasure and patrimony of the Catholic Church; its riches are conducive to the good of the universal Church, so that their loss would gravely harm her. This Rite has in the course of the centuries not only preserved the liturgical usages that arose in the city of Rome, but has also in a deep, organic, and harmonious way integrated into itself certain other usages derived from the customs and culture of different peoples and of various particular Churches whether of the West or the East, so acquiring a certain supra-regional character. As to our own times, the identity and unitary expression of this Rite is found in the typical editions of the liturgical books promulgated by authority of the Supreme Pontiff, and in the liturgical books corresponding to them approved for their territories by the Conferences of Bishops and endowed with the recognitio of the Apostolic See.[159] 398. The norm established by the Second Vatican Council, namely that in the liturgical renewal innovations should not be made unless required by true and certain usefulness to the Church, nor without exercising caution to ensure that new forms grow in some sense organically from forms already existing,[160] must also be applied to implementation of the inculturation of the Roman Rite as such.[161] Inculturation, moreover, requires a necessary length of time, lest the authentic liturgical tradition suffer hasty and incautious contamination. Finally, the pursuit of inculturation does not have as its purpose in any way the creation of new families of rites, but aims rather at meeting the needs of a particular culture, though in such a way that adaptations introduced either into the Missal or coordinated with other liturgical books are not at variance with the proper character of the Roman Rite.[162] 399. And so, the Roman Missal, though in a diversity of languages and with some variety of customs,[163] must in the future be safeguarded as an instrument and an outstanding sign of the integrity and unity of the Roman Rite.[164]
