Instead, he says, Give them some food yourselves (Luke 9:13). In Jesus hands, what little the Twelve has feeds five thousand ( men, and probably as many women and children), leaving twelve baskets so the Twelve can continue Jesus ministry of mercy. Pope Francis has asked how we celebrate and live the Eucharist. Do we keep it to ourselves? Or do we commune not only with Jesus but with the multitude whom Jesus has given us to cherish? Entrusted to Jesus and shared with others, our limited resources can go a long way. Recognizing Jesus in the Eucharist demands that we recognize Jesus also in the hungry crowd. TODAY S READINGS First Reading - Melchizedek, the king of Salem and a priest of God Most High, brought out bread and wine and blessed Abram (Genesis 14:18-20). Psalm - You are a priest forever, in the line of Melchizedek (Psalm 110). Second Reading - Paul gives his description of the institution of the Eucharist (1 Corinthians 11:23-26). Gospel - Jesus speaks to the crowd about the kingdom of God and then feeds them with five loaves and two fish (Luke 9:11b-17). St. Dominic Savio He is the patron saint of our Parish. He is a saint at nearly fifteen years of age. He was educated by St. John Bosco at the Oratory of St. Francis de Sales. For St. Dominic Savio, holiness consists of always being cheerful and of doing one s ordinary duties, extraordinarily well. His Feast Day is on May 6. Our Pilgrimage begins as we depart Los Angeles on our non-stop flight to Istanbul. Day 2 - Istanbul Tel Aviv (November 7). Arrive Tel Aviv where our guide and bus driver will meet us and check-in our hotel in Jerusalem. Day 3 - Bethlehem, Shephard's Field, Ein Karem (November 8). After breakfast we leave for Bethlehem at the Church of the Nativity, where our Savior was born. We will also visit Shepherd s Field and Milk Grotto,. After lunch, we will shop for souvenirs at a Christian owned store. In the afternoon, we will visit Ein Karem, the hometown and birthplace of St. John the Baptist and the place where the Blessed Virgin Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth. Day 4 - Via Dolorosa, Wailing Wall, Mount Zion (November 9). Early in the morning, we walk the way of the Cross with early Mass at the Holy Sepulcher Church. In here, we will visit Golgotha, Holy Sepulcher, where Jesus was laid after he was removed from the Cross and his tomb. Return to our hotel for breakfast. We return to the Wall city to visit the Wailing Wall, Church of St. Anne, the birthplace of the Blessed Mother and the Pool of Bethesda. In the afternoon we will visit Mt. Zion including the upper room where Last Supper, the Institution of the Holy Eucharist and Pentecost took place. We also pass by King David s Tomb. Day 5 - Mt. Of Olives, Pater Noster, Dominus Flevit, Galicantu (November 10). After breakfast, we start with the Mt. of Olives, the Church of the Pater Noster, Church of the Ascension and down to Dominus Flevit and St. Magdalene Church. Pray at the Garden of Gethsemane and visit the Church of All Nations. In the afternoon, we visit the Dormition Abbey of the Blessed Virgin Mary then to St. Peter in Gallicantu where Jesus was denied by St. Peter three times. Drive around Knesset, Shrine of the Book, Parliament and Mt. Scopus. If time permits, we will make a stop at the Salesian Homes. Day 6 - Jerusalem, Caesaria, Haifa, Nazareth, Cana (November 11). We depart Jerusalem and drive to Haifa, en route we pass by Caesaria to see the ruins of the ancient Roman City with its aqueduct. In Haifa, we visit the Carmelite Monastery and the Church of the Prophet Elijah. Continue to Nazareth to visit the Church of the Annunciation, Church of St. Joseph, and Mary s Well. Visit the First Miracle site in Cana where couples may renew their wedding vows. Day 7 - Sea Of Galilee, Mount of Beatitudes, Tabgha, Ceasaria Philippi (November 12). After breakfast we will visit the sites, where the message of our faith was given, visiting the heart of the ministry sites also known as the Gospel Triangle. We begin our visit with a boat ride at the Sea of Galilee. Visit Capernaum, Mt. of Beatitudes, The primacy of St. Peter, Tabgha, the Multiplication of loaves and fish. We will have a quick stop at Mt. Tabor where the Transfiguration took place. In the afternoon we will visit Caesaria Philippi, where Peter confessed his Faith in Christ. Dinner at the hotel. Day 8 - Baptismal Site, Jericho, Amman, Dead Sea (November 13). After breakfast we drive to the ancient city of Jericho to view the Mt. Temptation and Zacchaeus Tree. En route to Bethany we visit Lazarus tomb. We stop at the Baptismal site on the Jordan River and cross the border at Allenby where we will meet our guide and bus driver. Check-in into hotel adjacent to the Dead Sea. Access to the Dead Sea is available for swimming. Day 9 - Petra (November 14). This morning after mass, we drive to Petra for an unforgettable visit to the Rose Red City. Here you see the Nabateans built temples, houses, tombs and aqueducts. Back to Amman for dinner. Day 10 - Mt. Nebo, Madaba, Jerash (November 15). Once the early Christians realized that Christ s coming in glory was delayed, there was a need to provide for the governance and everyday needs of the church. The various orders within the church carried forward the apostles ministry, but also allowed for a measure of creativity. The sacrament we call holy orders evolved somewhat slowly. At first, it made sense for Christians to use the forms they knew, adapting them to new situations. Synagogues, for example, were administered by a board of elders, translated into Greek as presbyteros. We know from the Acts of the Apostles that a system of presbyters was a normal feature of church life from earliest days. They stood in relationship to another order, that of overseers, translated into Greek as episkopos, giving us the English bishops. The bishop was the shepherd, the faithful tender of the flock, one who offered the Eucharist, forgave sins, and maintained the bond of charity. Just as the deacons were the chief advisers for the charitable life of the church, so were the presbyters meant to advise the bishop on the spiritual life of the faithful.
