2 Dear Pilgrims and Organisers We cannot thank you enough for all the loyalty, support and commitment you have shown to All Saints Travel in continuing to recommend us to your friends and relatives and to your parishes. Due to this, 2012 has been another good year for us. Because of this we are able to help the charity organisations that we believe need more support. As we approach 2013 the Year of Faith declared by Pope Benedict XVI is already upon us, running from 11 October 2012 to 24 November It is an opportunity for all of us to renew our relationship with Jesus and the Holy Places. At All Saints Travel we consider the spiritual needs of our pilgrims to be of the utmost importance. We take you on a journey not only to the Holy Places but we also try to open up new horizons to be explored in the journey into faith. Our itineraries are some of the finest and have been carefully prepared by William Johnston, the author of The Holy Land, a Pilgrim s Handbook of Practical Information. William compiled this book from his extensive experience visiting the Holy Land over many years. William was the founder of Rosary Pilgrimage, a charity organisation. He is still working behind the scenes writing and promoting itineraries and through him we are able to donate to the charity organisations that he supports. For groups we can work with you to establish the pilgrimage that you want. We continue to provide excellent value for money pilgrimages and to give the best care and attention to all our pilgrims and we do our utmost not to disappoint you. As we continue to bring more pilgrims to the Holy Land we have introduced a 6 day pilgrimage for those who have been before and would like to revisit places of interest and also for those who are going for the first time and would like take in the highlights only. All Saints Travel combines the best value for money pilgrimages, outstanding itineraries and our caring philosophy in understanding the needs of our pilgrims. We reach out to those who need extra care and we are always happy to help. We hope that you too will enjoy travelling with us and experience the best that group travel pilgrimages can offer. 3 THE HOLY LAND General Information The Holy Land is still our number one destination. When you first arrive in the Holy Land you will thank Our Lord for bringing you there (Blessed John Paul II used to kiss the ground each time he visited). The bible comes alive, such an overwhelming feeling that half way through your pilgrimage you will say I am coming back, and many do, some annually. In the following sections we present some general information and highlights of what you can expect to see in the Holy Land. Note on timing: Your pilgrimage here involves getting up early on some days to avoid traffic and large queues. To achieve all the wonderful visits to the Holy Shrines successfully and smoothly, you will need to be able to walk at a pace that the majority of the group would find normal. We do not discriminate on the basis of age, but we do insist that each person has a reasonable level of fitness. This is to avoid running out of time at certain locations due to not being able to keep up. To run the pilgrimage successfully we have to be strict with our timing otherwise we risk falling behind schedule. Renewal of Marriage Vows at Cana: We encourage married couples to renew their vows here. It is a lovely experience where Our Lord performed his first miracle, turning water into wine. A certificate can be purchased here and signed by the priest who renews your vows. Cana wine can also be purchased here to take home with you. Renewal of Baptismal Vows in the River Jordan: For total immersion, a white gown must be hired at the site. Dead Sea Swim/Float: You are allowed a maximum of 20 minutes in the water. No jewellery should be worn in the water and extra care is needed to avoid swallowing the water. Mt. Tabor (The Church of Transfiguration): We go to the summit by taxis as the road is too narrow for the coach to negotiate. The Church of Visitation: This church is located on top of a hill and there are 80 steps to climb. If this is too much you can wait at the bottom of the hill and enjoy a beautiful cup of coffee and ice cream with your fellow pilgrims. The Tomb of Jesus and Mt. Calvary: the interior of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem is the Holiest place for all Christians and therefore the busiest. Queuing is required so we need to get up early to avoid huge crowds and a long time queuing. There are steps to tackle, short and steep, but not difficult for people with normal mobility. So you decide yourself whether you can do this when you get there. Expected temperature: Israel is a subtropical country so the temperature in the winter is milder. Summer is very hot. The best time to visit is Spring and Autumn. Best currency to bring: The local currency is the shekel, but literally everything in Israel is priced in US dollars, so this is the best currency to bring. Even when paying in dollars you will be given your change in shekels. You may need shekels for incidental expenses such as paying for the use of public toilets, as not all of these are free to use. If you have Sterling or Euros these are also accepted in restaurants and shops, however the conversion rate they use to dollars will be in their favour, not yours. Credit cards are accepted only by larger shops. Cost of tour: our prices start from 699 for a winter pilgrimage staying in a 3* hotel in Bethlehem for 5 nights. Early booking is essential, otherwise you could end up paying just as much as when travelling during season (it is best to book at least one year before travel). During season (Spring/Autumn and school holidays) the price will be considerably higher. Itineraries: the itineraries in our brochure are a guide only. Please ask us for the specific itinerary on your date of travel to see what is included. Group bookings: generally we provide one free place per twenty paying pilgrims and two for forty. Itineraries can be tailored according to your specifications. 3

4 Holy Land highlights, 6 days NEW: this year we are organising a shorter pilgrimage catering for people who would prefer not to join with an organised parish group and would rather join with others who have booked individually with us. We will do our utmost to ensure that you quickly get to know each other as if you have been friends all your life. As always, there will be a Spiritual Director leading and a professional guide with you throughout your pilgrimage. Furthermore an All Saints Travel representative will be with you to ensure that everything runs smoothly according to plan. Because of the shorter time these pilgrimages visit only the most significant Shrines, enabling you to spend more time there, focusing on prayer and meditation without having to rush off to visit the next Shrine. Please see page 6 for the itinerary and cost. For individuals who wish to go on one of the longer pilgrimages, you are of course free to join with groups organised by a Parish, and you will be made to feel very welcome. Winter Special Offer: this has been immensely popular for a number of reasons. Firstly, and most obvious, is that it is cheaper and more manageable if you are on a budget. Secondly, it is good to escape from the cold winter of Britain for a few days into the milder climate of the Holy Land. Thirdly, the Holy Sites are less crowded during off season. Also, an All Saints Travel representative will travel with you to ensure that you will have the most amazing pilgrimage that you will ever experience in the Holy Land. We will be there for you to support and assist you whenever necessary. We walk together and follow in the Steps of Jesus as one big happy family. Classic Pilgrimage 8 days: for our classic pilgrimage you are out on tour every day visiting Holy Shrines throughout the Holy Land. We do not cut our itinerary or restrict you from visiting any significant Holy Sites, or give you a free day to cut costs, leaving you wondering what to do with your free time. We do not cut corners to save money; our aim is to give more than you bargained for and achieve what you came for and more. Our priority will always be you. Classic Pilgrimage 10 days: you have two choices (this particularly applies for group organisers and Spiritual Leaders). If you are looking for a more relaxed pilgrimage, maybe a 10 day might be suitable for you. We can simply rearrange our 8 day classic itinerary and extend it to 10 days, or we can include a visit to Mt Carmel Basilica of Our Lady Star of the Sea, the world headquarters of the Carmelites Order and Elijah s Cave where he occasionally lived. Here we see the impressive Baha i Shrines and Gardens overlooking the natural harbour and the Mediterranean sea. We can also visit Banias (Caesarea Philippi) one of the sources of the Jordan River where Our Lord Jesus visited with his disciples. Other Holy Sites can be included depending on time availability. Holy Land and Beyond: some organisers have a special interest in extending their pilgrimages to visit Jordan to see Mt Nebo where Moses saw the Promised Land and the surrounding villages, then on to Petra the Pink City, down to the Holy Mountain of Sinai where Moses spent 40 days and where he received the Ten Commandments from God and nearby St Catherine s Monastery. If this is for you please contact us for more details. Group Organisers and Leaders: we understand that some organisers are loyal and will continue to use their tour operator regardless of how much they charge because it is easier and seems safer than having to look elsewhere and compare prices. But in these difficult economic times it pays to shop around a little. Our promise to you is that, like for like, you will not find a better value for money pilgrimage. We use the same excellent quality local guides, in many cases the same hotels (and we can quote using a particular hotel if you have one in mind), the same airlines, and offer the same level of financial protection (ATOL) as larger operators. We are confidant that we can beat the quote of other tour operators on any comparable tour. The money you save will be welcomed by your people. Without them, your pilgrimage might not go ahead due to lack of participants and this sometimes happens That extra money that you are able to save them will pay for extras such as lunches, insurance, etc Our loyalty is with you and your people. We will tell you whether our price is competitive enough and will refer you to other tour operators if need be to get the best price for your group. If you are thinking of organising a group to the Holy Land this year or the next please enquire now. The earlier you enquire the better the value of your pilgrimage. Why not contact us for details. You will not regret it. Supporting the Christian Community in the Holy Land: we normally stay in Bethlehem for the first 5 nights of your pilgrimage. This is our way of supporting the Christian community here. The hotels we use here are owned and run by Catholic Palestinian families. Some younger generations work two jobs (day and night) to support their families and there are many where several generations live together under one roof supporting each other. We spoke to some of them and they said we have no choice, working one job is not enough to support our families. We are not seeking donations, we are merely expressing our humanitarian concern by doing what we can to help them keep their jobs and support their families without having to compromise your pilgrimage with us whatsoever. As we specialise in the Holy Land we have a very strong relationship with our business associates here and understand that caring for our pilgrims, providing them with good service will always be our number one priority. Our Guides in the Holy Land: our priority is to support Catholic and other Christians in Bethlehem so it is only wise that we work with professional Catholic and Christian guides resident in Bethlehem. Bethlehem has long been associated with our faith, the place where Jesus was born. Needless to say we also have excellent professional guides available working with us from outside Bethlehem if need be. They too understand that caring for our pilgrims is our number one priority. Checkpoints: there are many checkpoints in the Holy Land crossing from Palestinian territories to Israel and vice versa. Every checkpoint is guarded by young people who check whether you are indeed a pilgrim. Tourist buses have no trouble passing through. You really have nothing to worry about, it sounds intimidating but they are pleasant enough - they are just doing their job. Current Situation in the Holy Land: in November 2012, the unrest in Gaza erupted again. Due to international involvement and effort, it was resolved very quickly. We had a group that went that week and several after that. What you saw on your TV screens is not the scene that you would expect to see in the Holy Land it is truly peaceful and safe in the places we visit. Some people hesitated a little but still went and came back very happy. We all prayed for peace of the Holy Land. We always feel safe there. Street crime in the Holy Land is rare; the country s problem is political. We cannot predict the future but don t let it stop you going. Wherever you are in the world there is danger, but we cannot live in fear. Our Lord Jesus will be with us. Planning Ahead: it is advisable for group organisers to book their group at least 10 months in advance. This will give everyone time to save up for the trip. There is plenty of organising involved in preparing for your pilgrimage. Last minute decisions could lead to panic, cost overrun and other unnecessary problems. So why not enquire now. 4

5 Price Variation / Tailor Made Itineraries: prices vary according to the date of departure you choose, the star rating of your hotel, the content of your itinerary and the airline we use. If you need advice on a suitable airport hotel for an overnight stay or if you have any other queries please contact us, we will be happy to help. Hotels we stay in: we stay in many good hotels in Bethlehem, from 3 & 4 star hotels such as Mt David, Star hotel (being renovated and converted to 4 star), Manger Square (a new hotel) and more as we encourage pilgrims to support the Christian community here. In Jerusalem we stay at the Jerusalem Gate hotel (excellent 3 star hotel) or Casa Nova in Old City - this is run by the Franciscan orders who are responsible for looking after the Catholic Holy Sites in the Holy Land. We generally use two hotels rather than one to avoid long distance travelling, so up north in the Galilee area we stay in the Golden Crown, Galilee hotel, Restal and many others. In the future we plan to use more and more Monasteries and Convents in the Holy Land to support Religious Orders here as well as hotels in Bethlehem to support Christians. Sisters in Nazareth convent for example, is very atmospheric and conveniently located. During our stay we may be able to participate and attend Solemn procession and Rosary at the Grotto of the Annunciation. The rooms are very clean and simple. There is a lovely chapel which is open for private prayer at any time of the day. Mt Beatitudes Monastery/Convent is one of the most popular as it is situated in a perfect location overlooking the Sea of Galilee (very solemn and tranquil, miles away from the bustling life of people in the city). Blessed John Paul the II stayed here during his last visit in the year If you wish to experience staying here, early booking is absolutely essential as rooms get booked up very quickly. For groups: please note all hotels are subject to availability. The earlier you plan your visit the better the chances of getting the hotel of your choice. If you have hotels/convent preferences please let us know, we will be more than happy to arrange this on your behalf. For individual bookings, you will join the organiser s itinerary. Visa: this may be required for non EU passport holders. Contact us for information or visit the Consular section of the Embassy of Israel website at: If you are extending your visit beyond Israel to Egypt and Jordan you may need a multiple entry visa. Itineraries in the brochure are guidelines only and differ depending on the date you are travelling. To request an exact itinerary for the date you are interested in please contact us via or make a request through our website at: 5

If this were to happen, it would impact on the whole group and this would not be fair to the majority. It is sad to say that the Holy Land is nowhere near to being wheelchair friendly, and to run the pilgrimage successfully we have to be strict with our timing otherwise we will fall behind schedule. COMPLAINTS Notify your leader/representative of any complaints whilst on your pilgrimage. Minor complaints can often be resolved there and then. If you feel that the complaint has not been satisfactorily dealt with you must give written evidence to the local representative and write to All Saints Travel within 7 days of your return giving full details of the complaint. Failure to do so will absolve All Saints Travel from any liability in respect of the complaint. JOINING THE PILGRIMAGE Please allow adequate time to reach the departure airport on your day of travel. We will not be responsible for clients arriving late under any circumstances. If you are joining from abroad or from a domestic flight within the UK, you must allow plenty of time for transfers. All flight times are subject to change. We will not be responsible for any failure to make a flight connection due to timing changes etc. that are beyond our control. BROCHURE ACCURACY Although we take the utmost care we will not be responsible for the consequences of any inaccuracies in this brochure. By the time you book your pilgrimage/holiday dates and prices may have changed. Before you book please ensure that you have the correct dates, price and availability for your pilgrimage by contacting us. SPECIAL NOTE We reserve the right to exclude passengers if we feel that they are creating distress to leaders, organisers or other members of the group, or are in any other way behaving inappropriately. We will not be responsible for any extra costs incurred in these circumstances.

27 Testimonials I speak for the entire group when I say that we were totally pleased with everything. Every aspect of every detail was covered to ensure the comfort and satisfaction of the pilgrims. We appreciated the effort not only to complete the itinerary but to add further visits. The group took you to their hearts Nelia. You were efficient and pleasant throughout. Sister and I found that you were a delight to work with. Fr. Eamonn Sweeney It was a good opportunity to travel with All Saints Travel. And was a great opportunity to have you as a guide and manager to our recent visit to Lourdes. I would like to thank you so much for your professional care and for your kind and considerate management of our visit. Everything was so well organised, and at the same time you were so much understanding to some of the needs of our people. We look forward for more future cooperation. Extending the group's gratitude to you. It was also very nice to know you, and thank you again for all what you did. God bless you. Souad I would like, on behalf of all the pilgrims, to thank you for a wonderful pilgrimage to the Holy Land. We were able to experience everything the itinarary offered including supporting the Palestinian people in their difficulties and (in a small measure) experiencing it. It is 40 years since my last visit and I was appalled and saddened by the changes - non for the better. My memories of Beit Jala and Tantur are still happy ones, but now I have an appreciation of the suffering of the people, particularly in Bethlehem. A very special thank you to Michael - our Leader. His expertise and care along with his sense of humour were a great support and help. Thank you for all you are doing and we would very much like to support you in the future. Fr. Michael Leadbeaterr The two areas that need commenting on are: first, how did All Saints Travel do in arranging the pilgrimage to the Holy Land and secondly, how well did the group leader from All Saints perform? I give 99% to All Saints Travel in their arrangement of the trip and 100% to Nelia as a group leader. I will not hesistate to recommend All Saints Travel to my friends and relatives. Peter Ezigboh Just a short note to let you know we had a lovely time in Bethlehem. The whole pilgrimage tour was meticulously organised. The tour guide Louis was excellent. Thank you for the Holy Land pilgrimage. Joseph & Merlyn Thomas Just like to say thank you for a fabulous pilgrimage to the Holy Lands, you could not have done better. The wife and I really enjoyed ourselves and our expectations were surpassed. Louis our guide was excellent. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Rod and Ann Hulks Thank you very much for this encouraging and emotional pilgrimage. Each member of the group was satisfied by the way the whole journey was arranged. The tour guide and driver were the perfect people for the job. Everyone was also very impressed with hotel staff who provided perfect srvice througout our stay. As for for All Saints Travel you are doing magnificent and impressive work. I think it takes a lot of professional and careful planning to arrange travel from the UK to various places in Israel. May our Lord Jesus continue to shower blessings to you and your company. Again on behalf of the whole group a special thank you to you and all your staff. Lawrence Karumazondo 27
