I have yielded to temptation and filled my days with more commitments that I can comfortably manage. Help me make myself a little less busy. Free my time. I have crowded my space with too much baggage: With gadgets and conveniences and possessions. Help me to let go of whatever I cling to. Free my hands. I have filled my head with trivial distractions: News and weather, gossip and prejudices. Help me focus on more important concerns. Free my mind. Jesus, my life is cluttered with more idols than I realized. I have given them a reverence they do not deserve. Teach me to renounce their claim on me, and end my divided allegiance. Cathedral Concert Series Jason Jeffrey, Director of Music Ministries, Piano Recital: Part 1 Friday, November 7 pm in the Cathedral! This recital will feature some of Jason's favorite works by Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, and Schubert. He will also be performing "Romanze" by Amy Beach, featuring guest violinist, Geremie Rebustillo. Los estudiantes, vestidos con sus disfraces, cantaron una variedad de canciones de Halloween con la melodía de villancicos Navideños. Fue una visita muy agradable! La clase del primer grado recibió un total de 96 pares de anteojos que serán arreglados y donados a los mas necesitados. Gracias a todos por apoyar sus esfuerzos. Concurso de Ortografía Felicidades a los ganadores del concurso preliminar de la Anunciación de ortografía, Kaitlyn Mudaliar (division de 4-6) y Claire Rogan (division de 7-8).Kaitlyn y Claire pasarán a competir en el concurso de San Joaquin County Spelling Bee en Diciembre. Halloween Cheer Last week, our second and third grade classes made a special visit to Plymouth Square to spread some Halloween cheer. Students, dressed in costumes, sang a variety of fun Halloween songs to the tune of popular Christmas carols. It was an enjoyable visit for all! First grade has collected a total of 96 pairs of prescription eyeglasses that will be donated and refurbished for those in need. Thank you to all for supporting their efforts. Spelling Bee Congratulations to our Annunciation Preliminary Spelling Bee winners, Kaitlyn Mudaliar (4-6 grade division) and Claire Rogan(7-8grade division). Kaitlyn and Claire will go on to compete in the San Joaquin County Spelling Bee in December. For more information, contact us at yam@annunciationstockton.org Evening Prayer Service for the Faithful Departed Monday, November 27 at 7pm, inside the Cathedral For thousands of years, different forms of prayer and music have been used in all cultures to commemorate the deceased of their loved ones, wherever they may go after death. In the Catholic tradition, we believe in life after death. We pray not only for the souls of the faithfully departed to rest in peace, but for their entry into heaven. We especially pray for the souls in Purgatory, that as they are cleansed for their sins, they will enter in communion with the angels in heaven and unified with our heavenly Father. Join both the bereavement and music ministries in a candlelit environment for a special evening prayer consisting of prayers specifically for the deceased to enter into heaven, centered around a giant wooden cross and the book of the deceased. With prayers, music, reflection, and scripture, we will offer the names of our loved ones to God. Please mark your calendars and participate in this meaningful service as we bring November to a close--the month for the Souls of the Faithful Departed.

6 Cathedral of the Annunciation and Community Altar Guild News The bus trip to Reno s Italian Street Festival and Silver Legacy Casino on October 8, 2017, proved to be a successful fundraiser with a profit of $ This money will be used by the Altar Guild to purchase needed items for the altar areas of the Cathedral. The Altar Guild wishes to thank all the parishioners who supported this event and also those businesses who donated door prizes: Angelina s, El Rancho Inn, Yen Du, Casagrande s, UJ s, and Joe Lovecchio & Sons. A very special thank you goes to Altar Guild Member Alma Huff who co-ordinated the bus trip and made it a fun event for all participants. Our Lady of Guadalupe December 3rd, 2017 with processions beginning at 12 noon at St. Mary s Church The 37th Annual Diocesan Pilgrimage and Eucharistic Celebration honoring Blessed Mary of Guadalupe. Pilgrims will process through downtown Streets to the Stockton Sports Arena where Mass will be presided by Bishop Blaire. Parishes are invited to depict a theme on a float.
