DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY APRIL 8, 2018 FROM THE DESK OF.

Pope John Paul II designated this Sunday as Divine Mercy Sunday. In today's Gospel, the Apostle Thomas personally experiences the mercy of God.

He does not close the door to him. He simply waits. And Thomas acknowledges his own poverty with his simple faith-filled invocation, "My Lord and my God!

We hear about the people who died in natural disasters like earthquakes and tornadoes and we wonder why.

2 DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY APRIL 8, 2018 FROM THE DESK OF... Deacon Joe MASS INTENTIONS April The Sunday after Easter always presents the events that took place in the Upper Room after Jesus rose from the dead. Pope John Paul II designated this Sunday as Divine Mercy Sunday. In today's Gospel, the Apostle Thomas personally experiences the mercy of God. Thomas does not believe it when the other Apostles tell him, "We have seen the Lord. So how does Jesus react? With patience. Jesus does not abandon Thomas in his stubborn unbelief. He does not close the door to him. He simply waits. And Thomas acknowledges his own poverty with his simple faith-filled invocation, "My Lord and my God! There are times that we have doubts in our faith. We all have crises in our lives when our prayers appear to go unanswered. We pray that our loved ones might get over there sickness, but they don t. We hear about the people who died in natural disasters like earthquakes and tornadoes and we wonder why. We are aware of the children who are starving in different parts of the world and all the suffering that goes with that so we begin to question if anyone is hearing our prayers. Doubts in faith are normal. The Gospel tells the story of someone who doubted Jesus. To me it is understandable that Thomas had doubts. I am sure that he doubted Peter and the others who had said that they had seen the Lord. But like St Thomas, God, in His mercy, sees us for who we are, human beings with doubts, but also people who have experienced His love and want more of it. Like St Thomas we might feel bad about ourselves for having doubts, but His mercy, His Divine mercy is so great that He sees us not as people with doubts but as people who are searching for Him. That s why Divine Mercy Sunday fits so perfectly with the gospel of doubting Thomas. We are ordinary people and are called to have extraordinary faith, and if our faith ever falters, we can trust in the Divine Mercy of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To apply or for more information, please contact the parish office HOLY HOUR FOR VOCATIONS St. Michael Catholic Church April 10, 7:00 pm The Archdiocesan Office for Vocations has scheduled Holy Hours at 7 p.m. on the Second Tuesday of each month in churches around the Archdiocese. The April Vocation Holy Hour is scheduled for April 10 at 7 p.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church. You are encouraged to attend and are welcome to bring friends to pray for vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life. The Serra Club of Wright County will be providing hospitality in the gathering space.

4 On May 13, 2018 we will be formally dedicating our parish to the guidance and protection of Mary during the Sunday Liturgies. Parishioners are encouraged to prepare for the dedication by following the consecration method as described in 33 Days to Morning Glory by Fr. Michael E. Gaitley MIC. This book contains 33 short daily meditations which are broken down to spend seven days each on the Marian teachings of St. Louis de Montfort, St. Maximilian Kolbe, St. Teresa of Calcutta, and St. John Paul II. Those interested in viewing a summery video can join us on Tuesday evenings following the 6:30 pm Liturgies starting on April 10 and concluding on May 8. What exactly is total consecration to Jesus through Mary? To consecrate means to set aside for a sacred purpose, and Mary is our model of perfect consecration to Jesus. Her life was set aside for the sole purpose of serving our Lord. By following her example, we too can completely give ourselves to Christ in a fundamental way that consecrates us to Jesus. We consecrate ourselves to be more devoted to the Lord and His Blessed Mother, which helps us grow in holiness and increases our faith, hope, and love. It is a prayerful and focused method of drawing closer to Jesus. As a parish we will begin the 33-day preparation on April 10. It is not a problem to begin after the start date, but participants should catch up by consecration day. Where can I purchase a book? Books are available at the parish office or on Divine Mercy Sunday for $11. An audio podcast is available at click on 33 Days Audio Podcast. Kindle and ebook formats are also available online.
