3 Week of April 26, 2015 PAGE 3 April 26, 2015 Fourth Sunday of Easter Dear St Clare of Assisi Parish and Visitors, The 4th Sunday of Easter, commonly known as the Good Shepherd Sunday, is a day on which the whole world is invited to pray for vocations, especially to the priesthood and religious life. By extension we also pray for vocation to married/family life because it is from families that all vocations are nurtured. More than ever there is need to pray for vocations as we see more priests, deacons and religious retiring than the new and young ones being ordained or consecrated. But we still have hope because there are a number of those retired who still continue to minister to the flock entrusted to them by the Good Shepherd. May the Good Lord continue to give them good health. Furthermore, the Good Shepherd Sunday brings to mind the need to pray for more servant-leaders in all spheres of our human life - parents, teachers, coaches, counselors, politicians, supervisors, employers, etc. In all these they need to be motivated by the love they have for the people under their care; it involves making a lot of sacrifice for the good of others. To be good shepherds, like Jesus The Good Shepherd, we are invited to constantly hear his voice speaking of the will of God for each one of us. Only then can we be able to transform the lives of our sisters and brothers for the better, and make them true daughters and sons of God, ready to enjoy the beatific vision when our time comes to go back to where we came from. This great journey of faith involves a lot of sacrifice as we go through the storms of life. According to St Gregory the Great: "No matter what obstacles we encounter, we must not allow them to turn us aside from the joy of that heavenly feast. Anyone who is determined to reach his destination is not deterred by the roughness of the road that leads to it. Nor must we allow the charm of success to seduce us, or we shall be like a foolish traveler who is so distracted by the pleasant meadows through which he is passing that he forgets where he is going". Let us never be the disappointing lot in our families, communities, parishes, councils, committees, places of work... by taking advantage of those entrusted to our care. We have to stand on the side of those abused and or exploited. It serves no good purpose to remain indifferent, with the "I don't care attitude" when the situation calls for our intervention. The situation only gets worse if our option is that of passive observers. My friends, love in practice is the way to go. HAPPY GOOD SHEPHERD SUNDAY. Fr. Grace
