3 A Message from our Pastor A Message from our Pastor December Last week we opened our Holy Door as a Church of Mercy. One of the hymns we sang at the Mass was the Year of Mercy Theme Hymn which can be found on the Year of Mercy Official Site of the Vatican and on our own website and Facebook Page. We also gave out a special Year of Mercy book for all to you. The company only did the book in English but we are still working to find a Spanish book as well. As we prepare for Christmas this week take time to pray for the gift of mercy in our hearts, our families, our community, our city and our world. Below are the words of the Hymn: 1. Give thanks to the Father, for He is good [cf. Ps 135/6] He created the world with wisdom He leads His people throughout history He pardons and welcomes His children [cf. Lk 15] 2. Give thanks to the Son, Light of the Nations He loved us with a heart of flesh [cf. Jn 15,12] As we receive from Him, let us also give to Him Hearts open to those who hunger and thirst [cf. Jubilee Year of Mercy In proclaiming the Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis proclaimed his desire that this Holy Year be steeped in mercy, as we disciples go out to every man and woman, bringing the balm of mercy to believers and those far away, as a sign that the Kingdom of God is already present in ourmidst! (Misericordiae Vultus, 5). In her visitation of Elizabeth, Mary beautifully presents just such an image. Despite the perils of her pregnancy, not to mention her preoccupations as a young unwed mother, Mary instantly, unselfishly, goes out of herself, hastening far and over dangerous terrain, to bring the balm of God s tender mercy in assistance rendered to her older relative. Since baptism and the Eucharist have made us, in a way, bearers of the living Christ within as Marywas, such selfless going out of ourselves to be of loving service to others in mercy should especially mark our Christmas season this Jubilee Year. Al visitar a Isabel, María presenta bellamente una imagen así. A pesar de los riesgos de su embarazo, sin mencionar su preocupación por ser una mujer joven sin casarse todavía, María de inmediato, sin egoísmo sale de sí misma y a toda prisa avanza sobre terreno peligroso para llevar el bálsamo de la misericordia de Dios para ayudar a su pariente. Ya que el Bautismo y la Eucaristía nos han hecho, de alguna manera, portadores de un Cristo Vivo dentro de nosotros, así como María fue, esa generosidad de salir de nosotros mismos para ofrecer un servicio atento de misericordia a nuestros prójimos, debe marcar especialmente nuestro Tiempo de Navidad este Año Jubilar. 5 MENSAJE DE NUESTRO PÁRROCO La semana pasada abrimos nuestra Puerta Santa como Iglesia de Misericordia. Uno de los himnos que cantamos en esa misa es el himno del Año de la Misericordia, el cual se puede encontrar en el sitio del vaticano y en nuestra propia página y en la página de Facebook. También repartimos un folleto especial sobre el Año de la Misericordia. Sólo está en inglés, pero estamos buscando también algo en español. Mientras nos preparamos para la Navidad saquemos tiempo esta semana para pedir por el regalo de la misericordia en nuestros corazones, en nuestras familias, en nuestras comunidades, en nuestra ciudad y en nuestro mundo. Esta es la letra del himno: Misericordiosos como el Padre 1. Damos gracias al Padre porque es bueno, porque es eterna su misericordia. (Se repite después de cada verso) Ha creado el mundo con sabiduría, conduce a su pueblo en la historia, acoge y perdona a sus hijos. 2. Damos gracias al Hijo, luz de las gentes, que nos ha amado con un corazón muy generoso, de Él recibimos, a Él nos damos. El corazón se abra a quien tiene sed y hambre. 3.
