Wednesday, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm Saint Philip Neri Parking Lot FAST AND ABSTINENCE AND OTHER ACTS OF PENANCE FOR LENT The Bishops of the United States prescribe, as minimal obligation, that all persons who are fourteen years of age and older are bound to abstain from eating meat on Fridays of Lent and Good Friday. Further, all persons eighteen years of age and older, up to and including their fifty-ninth birthday, are bound to fast by limiting themselves to a single full meal on Good Friday, while the other two meals on those days are to be light. All the faithful are encouraged, when possible, to participate at Mass and to receive the Holy Eucharist daily, to celebrate frequently the Sacrament of Penance, to undertake spiritual reading, especially the study of the Sacred Scriptures, and to participate in parish Lenten devotions as well as Lenten education programs. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is especially recommended. All are encouraged to participate in Operation Rice Bowl, which has aided countless hungry persons here in the Archdiocese as well as throughout our nation and our world. WOMEN S PRAYER GROUP Please consider joining our Women s Prayer Group. We meet from 10:00-11:00 every Thursday morning in the Rectory Conference Room. We would be glad to have you join us. MEN S PRAYER GROUP Men of different ages meet every Wednesday morning in the Rectory Conference Room from 7:30 to 8:30. There are no experts, just men searching for a deeper relationship with God. Small Christian Community: We have one running on Tuesday mornings after the 8:30 Mass in the sacristy and one on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 PM at the Banecker residence. A small time commitment to study and discuss the Sunday Scriptures. Consider joining us as your "something extra" for Lent. Book Club: How Big is Your God by Paul Coutinho on Sunday, March 18th at 7:00 in the school library. Fr. Coutinho will be speaking at Spirituality Under the Dome at Immaculata University on April 14th so we'll take a field trip for anyone interested. 4 Frozen Casseroles for St. John s Hospice Could you find time to make a casserole for the homeless of St. John s? Pans, lids and recipes are available in the Church Office and at Barbara McCarthy s ( ). Frozen casseroles are brought to Barbara s house before 9:00 AM the first Wednesday of each month. The next delivery is Wednesday. Please consider this work of mercy in your busy schedule. There is nothing to buy, just clear out your drawers of unused phones and they will be recycled for free money for SPN. Students can give the phones to their teacher, drop the phones in the box outside of the main school office or place them in the box at the back of church.
