LITURGY CORNER Repentance Sometimes we might think that the suffering a person experiences is caused by God because of their sinfulness. Somehow, God is punishing them. Although the readings today at first might sound that way, a careful look at them shows exactly the opposite. In Exodus, we hear the Lord say, I have witnessed the affliction of my people in Egypt and have heard their cry of complaint against their slave drivers, so I know well what they are suffering. Therefore I have come down to rescue them. God wants to save us from our suffering. The one who is the source of all goodness can never desire harm to come upon his own children. Yet, suffering is a reality because it is the nature of being human. However, through Baptism we have been given the promise of God s mercy.

This book was written in response to parents asking how to inspire their children to embrace the message and lifestyle of becoming the best version of themselves. Kelly s book covers strategies for transforming and empowering families to fight the cultural war that exists in our world. What are the five things children really need? Are you asking your children the right questions and teaching them habits geared for a successful and happy life? Are you teaching and modeling the virtues? You may want to learn the classic wisdom and practical insights by reading this remarkable book. At first, Francis took the assignment literally, physically restoring the abandoned chapel at San Damiano. Later, he came to understand his mission in a more spiritual sense: to return the church to the radical simplicity of the gospel, the spirit of poverty, and the image of Christ in the poor. Before long, other people joined him in his life of poverty, dedicating their lives to the teachings of Christ and by doing so, Rebuilding Christ s Church As your shepherd for almost six years, it has been my mission to build up Christ s Church in the Diocese of Oakland. Most recently, I have spoken to you regarding my three pillars: the Sunday Mass experience; practicing spiritual and corporal works of mercy; and forming ourselves into missionary disciples. I call on you today to assist me in strengthening these pillars as we work together to Rebuild Christ s Church! - Bishop Michael Barber The Bishop s Appeal is a direct appeal to the people of the Diocese, to ask them to make a pledge or a gift to supplement the ministry budget. A detailed breakdown of the diocesan budget can be found on the home page of the diocesan website: Without the financial support of our diocesan family through the Bishop s Appeal, thousands throughout Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, and beyond, could not be served. The Bishop s Appeal is an opportunity for each and every Catholic household to help further the mission of the Church. It is a chance for all parishes and missions of our diocese to join together in support of the following vital ministries: Pastoral Ministries & Services Religious Education & Formation Clergy Formation & Support Support for Catholic Schools & Parishes in Need Assisting Local Parishes Diocesan pastoral ministries and services focus on strengthening our faith, our families, and building up our parish communities by engaging our people in the daily life of the Church as they strive to live as faithful disciples of Christ. Everyone has been gifted by God and thus has a responsibility to use those gifts wisely, including the building-up of the Kingdom. Every gift to the Appeal is important, so we are asking every family in the diocese to make an equal sacrifice to the campaign not an equal gift. For those who are blessed with much, much is expected, but all are called to sacrifice. The amount of sacrifice will be different for each family. Some families will be able to give more than others, but we ask that the sacrifice be the same and proportional to the capacity of each person/family to give. Fr. They sing at Family Masses, All School Masses, Easter Sunday at St. Albert the Great and at the Christmas Eve Mass at St. Philip Neri. 5 We would like to thank Fr. Robert, Fr. Anthony and all who came to support the Benefit Concert hosted by our St. Philip Neri St. Albert the Great Youth Choir. Thank you for your generous donations and sponsorships. Likewise, we would like to thank all dancers, singers, musicians & volunteers, without whose participation, this concert would not have been possible. Our efforts have raised more than $3,000, all of which will benefit the Alameda Midway Shelter. Jesus waits for us in this Sacrament of Love In the sacred Host, He is present, the true treasure, always waiting for us. Only by adoring this Presence do we learn how to receive Him properly. Every first Friday of the month, we have the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at St. Philip Neri. Through Eucharistic Adoration, we are honoring the Eucharistic Presence of Christ. Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity We cannot leave the Blessed Sacrament unattended in church, therefore, we encourage our parishioners to sign up and keep watch for a period of time. We have sign-ups in the vestibule for increments of 30 minutes at a time but you are more than welcome to volunteer, stay and pray for as long as you prefer. Sign-up sheet for the month of April is now available in the vestibule. Thank you! The 2019 Annual Bishop s Appeal is ongoing and envelopes are available on the pews and vestibule. Last year, our parish reached % over our goal in no time. We ask for your support again this year and please prayerfully consider your donations. Anything above our St. Philip Neri - St. Albert the Great goal of $32,500 goes directly to our parish to help with our needs. Next weekend, March 30 & 31st is Commitment Weekend. Please take an envelope home with you today, pray and talk about it with your family on how you can help support this appeal. Thank you. The Alameda Deanery Lenten Retreat will be on April at St. Joseph Basilica. Over that weekend, we will have Stations of the Cross, Reconciliation services, Mass with Anointing of the Sick, Eucharistic Adoration, Youth Night & various speakers.
