Paulson The Third Sunday after the Epiphany January 26, 2019, at 4:00 p.m. January 27, 2019, at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. OUR MISSION To proclaim the love of Jesus Christ, invite others to participate in our faith community, and be a blessing to all in word and deed. The glory of the Lord is revealed in the reading of scripture. People stand at attention. People weep. People prostrate themselves in prayer. The unity of the church is another reflection of the glory of God. Most gloriously, the promises of God are fulfilled in the person of Jesus Christ. Gather round. Listen up. 5 ORDER OF CONFESSION P: Blessed be the holy Trinity, (+) one God, who creates us and forms us, who redeems us and calls us, who unites us and sends us. C: Amen. P: The Spirit of the Lord fills the world and knows our every word and deed. Gathered in God s presence, let us open ourselves to the Lord and each other and confess our sins in penitence, faith and hope. Mighty and loving God, C: have mercy on us. We confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We seek our own way. We divide the body of Christ. In your mercy, rain upon our dry and dusty lives. Wash away our sin and heal our wounded spirits. Kindle within us the fire of your love to burn away our apathy. With your warmth bend our rigidity and guide our wandering feet. Let the words of our mouths, the thoughts of our hearts, and everything that we do be filled with faith, hope and love. Amen. 5

As a called and ordained minister of the Church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all of your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Now Ezra, the priest, reads the law of Moses to them in the public square. When they hear it, they weep for their sins and for the long years in exile, but Ezra reminds them that the joy of the Lord is their strength. L: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God! 6

7 PSALM 19:1-6 SECOND LESSON 1 Corinthians 12:12-31a The apostle and pastor Paul uses the metaphor of the human body to describe how intimately connected we are in the church. For this struggling congregation in Corinth, Paul delivers a vital message of unity that is a mark of the church today. L: This is the Word of the Lord C: Thanks be to God! 7

10 CONFESSION OF FAITH The Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
