Anointing of the Sick Anyone scheduled to enter the hospital or is sick should be anointed. The anointing of the sick is held every Saturday after the 8:30 a.m. Mass. Just ask the Priest and he will pray with you and administer the Sacrament of the Sick. Parish Membership Every parishioner should be formally registered with the parish. Likewise, parishioners are encouraged to use the Sunday collection envelopes. We invite you to register at the Rectory Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. or complete a registration form, found in Church, and drop off at the Rectory. Vocations Are you being called to the Priesthood or Religious Life? Speak with a Priest or Religious or contact the Vocation Office at or vocations@diobrook.org. Baptisms Usually, on the second Sunday of the month at 12:15 p.m. Parents wishing to have their child baptized must attend a class prior to the Baptism. Classes are usually held the first Saturday of the month at 10:30 a.m.. Please call the Rectory to register. Marriages Arrangements must be made with the Priest at least 6 months prior to the wedding. One party should be a parishioner. For information on pre-cana, visit Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) Instructions for non-catholic adults interested in becoming Catholics are held during the year. Instructions for Catholics who have not received the Sacraments of the Eucharist and Confirmation are also given. Anybody interested is asked to call Jim Giorgio at Devotions Miraculous Medal Novena, Rosary & Divine Mercy Chaplet recited after 8:30 a.m. Mass Mondays. Excuses, Excuses By the time of Jesus, the scribes and Pharisees had added many more laws. The scholar who questioned Jesus about eternal life knew what was important: loving God with all your being and loving your neighbor as yourself. If he had stopped there, he would have been all right. But by asking Who is my neighbor? he implied that there are limits to love. That s why Jesus used the parable of the good Samaritan to show that love is as simple as helping someone in need. Even today, we find people making excuses for not doing what God asks of us. We want someone else to interpret it for us, hoping they will find a loophole we can use to ignore God s commands. We judge people who need help, saying they choose to be poor or homeless. We say that between work and family obligations, we have no time to give to the community. We sign our kids up for so many sports that we don t even go to church on Sundays. We always have time to watch our favorite TV shows, but there s never enough time for daily prayers. Before you start beating yourself up with guilt, remember that God expects us to take care of our families, to spend time with our children, and even to take time to rest and relax. If we are willing to look at our lives and bring them to God, asking for guidance, we are making the first steps to keep God s law of love.
