Lift Up Your Hearts SOUTH PARK, PA Typically I write this column in our bulletin under the title Lift Up Your Hearts. These words taken from our liturgy remind us that our prayer and worship is an exchange, in which we lift up our hearts to the Lord and He fills them with His life and love and with all of the other gifts which we need to live in relationship with Him. We are always being formed in the Mass, all year long, to be open to what we focus on in Lent: conversion, turning toward the Lord, responding to Him with hearts that are open and ready to renewed. As we keep this season of Lent I hope that it will be a time to for each of us to renew our relationship with the Lord, and to strengthen our parish community. I hope that you will take advantage of some of the opportunities which have been advertising: our small group Bible Studies, Matthew Kelly s Best Lent Ever daily reflections, Tuesday evening devotions (at Saint Louise), our April Parish Mission with Sister Briege McKenna, and perhaps most importantly, our sacramental life, especially Mass and Confession. Music Ministry News Please note: the Adult Choir practice has been changed to 6:30pm on Tuesday nights. The Bell Choir practices will commence on Sunday mornings at 10:05 in the choir room beginning March 9. Please see Patti for details. Life Enrichment Club The Life of Sir Winston Churchill, March 13 from 11:00am-1:30pm in the Gathering Place. Sir Winston Churchill is considered to be one of the greatest figures of the 20th century. Soldier, statesman, writer, painter and public figure for more than sixty years. He served as Prime Minister of the U.K. and led Britain to an allied victory in World War II. Historian and public speaker, Jack Puglisi, will introduce us to the life of this great orator who urged England to fight until the end...never, never surrender. All are welcome, please bring a covered dish and a friend. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence. The Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence in the United States. 2. The obligation of abstinence (refraining from eating meat) begins at the age of 14. The law of fasting (limiting oneself to one full meal and two lighter meals) obliges all between the ages of No one should consider this obligation lightly. 3. Those individuals who have a medical condition in which fasting may be considered harmful are not obliged to fast, but should perform some other act of penance or charity. 4. Pastors and parents are to see to it that minors, though not bound by the law of fast and abstinence, are educated in the authentic sense of penance and encouraged to do acts of penance suitable to their age. 5. All members of the Christian Faithful are encouraged to do acts of penance and charity during the Lenten season beyond what is prescribed by the law. 6. As a general rule, a request for a dispensation from the obligation of abstinence on Fridays of Lent will not be considered unless some serious reason is present. The attendance at social events, banquets, wedding rehearsals or receptions, or funeral wakes are not considered sufficient reason to request a dispensation. Mass Readings Explained: Please join us to watch a brief video in which Dr. Brant Pitre discusses the readings of the upcoming Sunday Mass each week. Everyone is welcome to drop by Saint Louise Parish Center, any Wednesday morning if they have a half hour to spare. Ladies of Charity Lenten Day of Recollection March 13, 2019 The Saint Louise de Marillac Ladies of Charity extend an invitation to all ladies of Saint Joan and Saint Louise Parishes to join us on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 for our annual Lenten Day of Recollection. Our speaker will be Father Dan Maurer. The day begins with Mass at 9:00am. After Mass, we will relocate to LeGras Hall where a light breakfast will be served before the program. Join us on Thursday, March 14, in the Bishop Leonard Room in the lower level of Saint Louise Church. Our presenter, Jan Patsch Taylor, who is a Master Floral Designer and Professional Floral Commentator, has been at Malone Flower Shop in Canonsburg for thirty years. Previously she freelanced for many area shops and a local wholesale flower company. As a Christian, she has created programs to inspire and entertain while sharing floral design and Biblical truth. There are arrangements representing Genesis, the I Am, a Wordless arrangement and many more. The meeting will begin with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. All ladies of Saint Joan and Saint Louise parishes are invited. Light refreshments will be served. Saint Louise Men s Golf League Open Invitation Golfers, we invite you to join the Saint Louise Men s Golf League, a social organization of 100+ men from the Parish that plays 9 holes of handicap adjusted golf on Friday evenings at Lindenwood Golf Course. League play begins Friday, May 3 teeing off anytime from 3:00pm-6:00pm (whenever you can get there) and runs through September 13. Members are encouraged but are NOT required to play every week. Following the round, members are encouraged to go to LeGras Hall at Saint Louise for a meal and share fellowship with Parish League members. Our first 2019 Membership meeting for existing and new members will be held on March 15 at 7:30pm in the Saint Louise school cafeteria. All men in the Parish, age 21 and over, are invited to attend the meeting to learn more about joining the League, share fellowship with Parish league members and have some drinks and snacks.
