THE EPISTLE The Lord is my strength and my might, The Lord has chastened severely. The Reading from Saint Paul's letters to the Romans (5: 1-10) Brethren, having been proven righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and boast in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also boast in afflictions, knowing that affliction produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For a while, we were still without strength, at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would actually dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been put into a right relationship with God by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. Not only so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received our reconciliation. الرسالة

4 الرب قوتي وثباتي, تأديبا أد بني الرب, لكنه لم يسل مني إلى الموت. فصل من رسالة القديس بولس الرسول إلى أهل رومية يا إخوة, لما نلنا البر ن ع منا بالسالم مع هللا برب نا يسوع المسيح, وبه دخلنا باإليمان إلى هذه النعمة التي فيها نحن قائمون. ونفتخر على رجاء المشاركة في مجد هللا, بل نحن نفتخر بها في الشدائد ل ع ل م نا أن الشدة تلد الصبر والصبر يلد االمتحان واالمتحان يلد الرجاء والرجاء ال يخي ب صاحبه, الن هللا سكب محبت ه في قلوب نا بالروح القدس الذي وهب ه لنا. ولما كن ا ضعفاء مات المسيح في الوقت المحد د من أجل الكافرين, وقل ما يموت أحد من أجل إنسان بار, فرب ما جر و ء أحد أن يموت من أجل إنسان بار. أما هللا فبرهن عن محبت ه لنا بأن المسيح مات من أجلنا ونحن بعد خاطئون. فكم باألولى اآلن بعدما نلنا البر بدم ه أن ننجو به من الغضب. واذا تم الصلح بيننا وبين هللا بموت ابن ه ونحن أعداؤه, فكم باألولى أن نخلص بحياته ونحن مصالحون. بل نحن أيضا نفتخر باهلل, والفضل لرب نا يسوع المسيح الذي به نلنا اآلن هذه المصالحة THE GOSPEL The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Saint Matthew (6: 22-33) The Lord said: "The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light; but if your eye is not sound, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore, I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you shall eat or what you shall drink, nor about your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither 4

5 sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O men of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or "What shall we drink?' or "What shall we wear? For the Gentiles seek all these things; and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well." اإلنجيل فصل شريف من بشارة القديس متى قال الرب : س ارج الجسد هو العين. فإن كانت عين ك سليمة, كان جسد ك كله مني ار. وان كانت عينك مريضة, كان جسدك كله مظلما. فإذا كان النور الذي فيك ظالما, فيا له من ظالم! ال يستطيع أحد أن يخدم سيدين, ألن ه إما أن يبغض أحدهما ويحب االخر, واما أن يلزم أحدهما وينبذ االخر. فأنتم ال تقدرون أن تخدموا هللا والمال. لذلك أقول لكم: ال يهمكم لحياتكم ما تأكلون وما تشربون, وال للجسد ما تلبسون. أما الحياة خير من الطعام, والجسد خير من اللباس انظروا إلى طيور السماء كيف ال تزرع وال تحصد وال تخزن, وأبوكم السماوي يرزقها. أما أنتم أفضل منها كثي ار ومن منكم إذا اهتم يقدر أن يزيد على قامته ذ ارعا واحدة ولماذا يهمكم اللباس تأملوا زنابق الحقل كيف تنمو, فال تتعب وال تغزل. وأنا أقول لكم: إن سليمان نفسه في أبهى مجده لم يلبس مثل واحدة منها. فإذا كان هللا هكذا ي لبس عشب الحقل وهو يوجد اليوم ويطرح غدا في التنور, فكم أنتم أولى منه 5

6 بأن يلبسكم, يا قليلي اإليمان فال تهتموا فتقولوا: ماذا نأكل وماذا نشرب وماذا نلبس فهذا يطلبه الوثنيون, وأبوكم السماوي عالم بأنكم تحتاجون إلى هذا كله. فاطلبوا أوال ملكوت هللا وبر ه ت ازدوا هذا كله.
