5 for he had many possessions. 23 Then Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, How hard it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God! 24 And the disciples were perplexed at these words. But Jesus said to them again, Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God. 26 They were greatly astounded and said to one another, Then who can be saved? 27 Jesus looked at them and said, For mortals it is impossible, but not for God; for God all things are possible. 28 Peter began to say to him, Look, we have left everything and followed you. 29 Jesus said, Truly I tell you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields, for my sake and for the sake of the good news, 30 who will not receive a hundredfold now in this age houses, brothers and sisters, mothers and children, and fields, with persecutions and in the age to come eternal life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first. CREED We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

6 We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. Take them, offered in great thanksgiving, and use them to set a table that will heal the whole creation; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. St. Luke, Evangelist today we are remembering the feast of St. Luke (18 October) with a blessing and prayer for healing following the main liturgy. We ask that persons desiring to participate gather near the side altar. Luke, author of one of the canonical gospels and the Acts of the Apostles, is reputed to have been a physician, therefore healing services have long been associated with him and his feast. Thank you to all those who showed up to finish painting the parking lot fence on Saturday, 6 October. The chain link fence is now completely finished. Thank you to Joan Hoyle, Audrey Huka, Becky McClellan, Gil Ricketts, Richard Spittel, Jeremy Walston, Oliver Walston-Lavdas. OCTOBER FOOD-DRIVE the Parish Life Committee is spearheading this drive to collect non-perishable food items for GEDCO s CARES food pantry. There is a special need for canned soup, canned green beans, canned fish, cereal, jelly, spaghetti and spaghetti sauce. Please bring in your contributions and place them by the side altar. At the end of the month our collected bounty will be delivered to GEDCO for distribution through CARES. Questions? Contact Richard Spittel. Our synod's African Descent Lutheran Association will host its annual prayer breakfast on Saturday, October 20 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at Journey of Faith Lutheran Church (7902 Liberty Road, Windsor Mill, MD 21244). See Waetina Coles for details. A reminder that Reformation Sunday, 28 October, 10 AM, we will be worshiping with the people of 1 st English Lutheran Church at 39 th & Charles Sts. This is another opportunity for us to reach out to near neighbors and to join in worship and fellowship with them. Plan now to join us at 1 st English Church! Later that day, 10/28, CLAIM will hold its annual CHOIRFEST here at St. Mark s Church at 3 PM.
