3 LAST CLEAN-UP DAY IS SATURDAY APRIL 8 th NINE TO TWELVE NOON Did you know that the average age of our clean-up folks at the first Family outing was SEVENTY!! Yes, we had two attendees plus the committee (and their diehard husbands). We are in real need of help for our next and final attempt to finish the job. Bring the kids, muscles and tools. God needs your help. Coffee, juice and goodies provided. Tools: rakes, spades, hoes, lopping sheers, hedge clippers, weeding tools, buckets, hand sheers, gloves, hat! Your landscape committee: Sue Oki, Bob Marquardt, Bev Matsunaga, Sandy Varco PRAYER FOR THE SELECTION OF A RECTOR Loving God, giver of every good gift; Look graciously on your Church, and so guide the minds and hearts of those who will work together to choose a rector for St. Timothy s that we may receive a faithful pastor, who will care for your people and equip us for our ministry; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. GRACE HOUSE LIBRARY CLEANUP The Grace House Library Cleanup crew has created a list of the video tapes in the library. The video tapes are available for adoption! See the list in the narthex or at coffee hour and/or review the tapes in the library (under the window near the fireplace). The cleanup crew has embarked on a cleanup and reorganization of the library in Grace House. We are meeting to work on the project on most Tuesday and Friday afternoons from 1:00 3:00. If you would like to join us, please contact Sally Potts ( , sallyspotts@gmail.com), Jane Butterfield ( , Jane.butterfield@att.net ) or Mae Warren ( , maewarr@gmail.com). If you have items in the library that you are concerned about, please contact one of us. BOOK CLUB NEWS: Please come and join us on Sunday, April 9th in Grace House Library at 12:30. We'll be discussing The Underground Railroad, by Colson Whitehead. The National Book Award Winner and NYTimes best seller is a magnificent tour de force chronicling a young slave's adventures as she makes a desperate bid for freedom in the antebellum South. In Whitehead's ingenious conception, the Underground Railroad is no mere metaphor - engineers and conductors operate a secret network of track and tunnels beneath the Southern Soil. The Underground Railroad is at once a kinetic adventure tale of one woman's ferocious will to escape the horrors of bondage and a shattering, powerful meditation on the history we all share. Please come and join in the discussion of this compelling book. If you have questions, please contact Carol Lane: thefourthlane@aol.com 3 P a g e

4 WE'RE MOVING FURNITURE! Within the next couple of weeks, please don't be alarmed as you see some changes made in the choir area of the church. The Choirs at St. Timothy's is growing so we have to make some space in the church to accommodate and serve this growth. The organ and piano will move closer to the sanctuary area, and will allow for better communication between the clergy and director of music, and open up the space for us to welcome in more choir members! Darita & Rev. Stacey NEW EPISCOPAL WOMEN PRESENT..."BUNCO" EVENT Ladies are you ready to play "Bunco"? 8 St Timothy s Episcopal Church Vestry Meeting Highlights March 2017 The vestry met in Grace House on Monday, March 13, at 6:00 pm. APPROVED MOTION: Add Charlie Wills as a member of the Finance Committee The Rector Search Committee (represented by Dick Firth and Gary Hunt) gave an update on the status of the search. As of the March 13 meeting they had held phone interviews with 15 of the 20 applicants and expect to complete the remaining interviews by March 18 th. The committee plans to narrow the candidate list to 5 8 semi-final candidates, discuss that list with Denise Obando of the Diocese and identify potential dates for search committee representatives to visit the semi-final candidates. Denise Obando, Diocese of California Transition Minister, attended the March vestry meeting. She briefed the vestry on the rest of the rector search process (who does what and when) and suggested several actions in the areas of interview questions, scheduling and compensation planning for the vestry that will help them in their job of selecting the next rector for St. Timothy s. There was no written Treasurer s Report submitted for the meeting. The treasurer reported verbally on the income and expenses through the end of February 2/12 = 16.7% of the full year. The Year to Date (YTD) income is 25.9% of the total income expected for the year due to the number of prepaid pledges received in January. Expenses were 15.4% of the total expenses projected for the year. The date for the April vestry meeting has not been decided. Parish members are welcome to attend Vestry meetings. The minutes of the vestry meeting will be filed in the Parish Office after they are approved by the Vestry. The minutes of the February vestry meeting were not approved. The submitted commission reports were also not approved during the meeting. The vestry met in executive question to discuss personnel topics. This report was submitted by Sally Shea Potts, Vestry Clerk. The minutes of the March 13 meeting were created by Susan Oki due to the absence of the vestry clerk. 8 P a g e

Gary L Hunt ghunt94526@gmail.com NEWS FROM TROOP 36 Last month, the Mt Diablo Silverado Council asked for Troops to nominate outstanding Scouts to represent the Boy Scouts of America at the California State Capitol in Sacramento for the annual "BSA Report to the State" trip, where the selected Boy Scouts represent all that BSA have accomplished over the past year. Troop 36 nominated two of our Eagle Scouts, Gordon Ye and Marco Conci. Unfortunately, Marco had to decline his nomination due to a previously planned family trip to Italy. After reviewing all nominees, it is with great pleasure that I announce that the Boy Scouts of America has selected Gordon Ye to travel to the State Capitol next month to meet the Governor and other State Leaders. We are so proud that Gordon will be representing Troop 36 as well as the Meridian District. If you see Gordon, please take a moment to congratulate him! If anyone has questions about Troop 36 at St Tim s, contact Spencer Fulweiler, P a g e

10 What s happening in contra Costa County? HABITAT FOR HUMANITY Habitat EBSV (East Bay/Silicon Valley) is working towards our next community of homes in Walnut Creek off Las Juntas Way. The current plan is for a community of up to 45 new homes near the Pleasant Hill BART station. The tentative plans drew some opposition from the neighborhood during the February 9 hearing with concerns expressed regarding traffic, density and neighborhood home values. The Muir Ridge Phase II project in Martinez is nearly done. Volunteers have been working inside on painting and cleaning and outside installing fences and retaining walls. The current plan is to dedicate the 6 homes on May 20 th. Muir Ridge Phase III will be ready for volunteer groups in July or August. ReStore Did you know that Habitat has a store in Concord that accepts and resells new and gently used furniture, home accessories, building materials and appliances? It s at 1500 Monument Blvd. For more information, go to CONTRA COSTA INTERFAITH HOUSING Great news! Contra Costa Interfaith Housing just placed the 20th and final family in permanent housing as part of our Families in Supportive Housing program--also known as FISH. These families were chronically homeless for more than one year and can finally live somewhere they will call home and receive supportive services to stabilize and be successful. With spring holidays nearing, we would love to provide "Spring Baskets" to the children in this program. Is this something that you or your community is interested in? If the answer is YES, please click this link to sponsor a family. Details are on the Sign Up Genius page. Have fun with this project! Please me with any questions. Share with your members, friends, neighbors and family. Sincerely, Gloria Bertolozzi Volunteer & Outreach Manager Contra Costa Interfaith Housing 399 Taylor Blvd, Suite 115 Pleasant Hill, CA p w. fb P a g e
