Submissions are subject to approval and space limitations. INFANT BAPTISM: To schedule a Baptism, please contact the Parish Office. Parents are expected to attend a Pre-Baptismal session. The celebration and registration for the Sacrament of Baptism will still be at the individual parishes. MARRIAGE: Dates for Marriages are scheduled only through the priest and only after an initial meeting with the couple. Church law requires a minimum of six months notice before a wedding can be celebrated. In light of the many arrangements for a wedding, the couple should contact the priest as soon as possible after the engagement is announced. INTERESTED IN BECOMING CATHOLIC: Those wishing to share in the sacramental life of the Catholic Church are invited to contact the Parish Office. This specifically applies to those wishing to be baptized, who have not previously shared in the Eucharist, who have not sought to share the sacrament of Confirmation, or those raised in another faith but now choosing to share our Catholic faith. HOSPITALIZED OR HOMEBOUND: If a parishioner is in the hospital or sick at home, please call the Social Ministry Office to arrange for a pastoral visit. Each hospital has a chaplain for emergencies. PRAYERS FOR THE SICK: Please call the Main Office or Social Ministry Office to request your loved one to be on the Prayer List. Due to HIPPA Regulations, only an immediate family member can make this request. SPONSOR LETTERS: Only active and registered members will be issued a Sponsor Letter. 2 Pastor s Perspective Fr. John R. Rushofsky Pastor jrushofsky@saintsebastianparish.org PARKING! Growing pains are always a part of major changes. Parking appears to be one of these growing pains for us. This is not surprising because our grouping went from 16 weekend Masses to 10, compressing our attendance considerably. From a worship viewpoint this is a wonderful thing. It improves congregation participation and excitement. Every member of the congregation should have the opportunity to see the church from the celebrant s perspective. It s very impressive. However. Getting everyone into a marked and acceptable parking space is another matter. All four of our parishes have very different configurations and levels of availability. This has a serious effect on the convenience and safety of everyone. We had a particular challenge recently on the All Saints holyday, when not enough parking was available at some Masses. This was compounded by the concurrent observances of the holyday and Halloween. It is clear that we need to take such circumstances into consideration in future planning of Mass schedules. Our next holyday is Immaculate Conception, which this year falls on a Saturday, and that will present further issues because the Saturday evening Masses will be at the usual times and will satisfy the Sunday obligation and not the holyday. Watch for the Mass schedule for that weekend in the previous weekend s bulletin. Next week: Parking at each of our parishes, and how to manage it. IN OTHER NEWS: Happy Thanksgiving to all! It s a time to relax and unwind with family and friends. How wonderful that almost everything grinds to a halt on Thanksgiving, except football and those annoying Pre-Black-Friday sales We had a thank-you note from Genesis of Pittsburgh for our donation of diapers and various baby items, all of which were in great need and will be put to good use stay tuned for more news. Amen to Action On the day after Thanksgiving, thousands are expected at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center to sing, pray, celebrate, and pack over one million meals for the hungry. This is the second annual Amen to Action event which inspired over 3,000 volunteers in November 2017 to pack 1,014,366 meals for their Pittsburgh community. Meals were packed using a system developed by the Meals of Hope organization and then delivered to those in need through the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. The event sold out and broke records for packing the most meals in one day in a single location. Amen to Action was founded by a group of Pittsburgh clergy and lay leaders with the shared vision: to connect people of all faiths, creating a platform of harmony, and amassing spiritual capital more potent than all the coal in the hills and steel in the mills - and in so doing, lead Pittsburgh to become a spiritual power plant for the rest of the world. The Amen to Action team invites the community of Pittsburgh to register and/or donate to the second annual Amen to Action event taking place on Friday, November 23rd at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. For more details visit MUSIC MINISTRY NEWS IS IT THE END? The readings today focus on the end of time. Daniel prophesies about the resurrection of those who have already died, a radical notion in his day. The author of Hebrews emphasizes that Jesus sacrifice on the cross atoned for all sins, for all people, for all time. In Mark, Jesus warns his disciples of the terrible signs of the end of time but reassures them that God s elect will be gathered from the ends of the earth. The words we hear today aren t meant to frighten us. May these promises allow us to face the future with hope. SETTLING IN For the past month, various choirs and music programs have begun to take root. Depending on which Mass time and location you favor, you may have heard several of our choirs and programs, maybe even all of them by now. Each of our choirs still have a few seats available for newcomers to jump in and get on board. It s not too late! We offer something for everyone, so don t be afraid to use your God-given gifts and talents. Here s the thing No one can worship for us. We have to do it for ourselves. The purpose of music ministry isn t for others to do it for us. The purpose is to draw all of us into the act of worship, to collectively gather our voices as one unified body. We have to sing hymns and play instruments and praise God for ourselves. Don t be afraid to pick up hymnals and song books at Mass. Don t be nervous about dusting off that old instrument (or voice!) that s been packed away for so long. Find your niche, get back into the swing of things, and do your part. You will be warmly welcomed here. This is a judgement-free zone. It s not about what anyone else thinks or says. In the end, it will be between you and God, so keep your focus on him. Make a joyful noise unto the Lord!
