2 MARONITE MINUTE The Revelation to Joseph December 11, 2016 Source: Pope: Christmas tree and crib symbols of hope and love This year s Christmas tree and crib were due to be inaugurated and lit up on Friday afternoon in St Peter s Square. Earlier in the day in the Paul VI hall, Pope Francis met with the donors of the tree and the nativity scene, telling them that these gifts form a message of hope and love. Welcoming the donors of this year s Christmas Tree and crib, Pope Francis thanked them for their gifts which he said, would be admired in Saint Peter s Square by pilgrims from around the world during Advent and the Christmas holidays. The 25 meter high spruce tree was donated by the Lagorai Forests Association which is located the Trentino region of Northern Italy and the Pope remarked that, the beauty of those views is an invitation to contemplate the Creator and to respect nature, the work of his hands. The Pope also had a special word of thanks to the children who decorated the tree, with the support of the "Lene Thun Foundation" that organizes the ceramic therapy workshops in various Italian hospitals for children undergoing treatment for cancer and other illnesses. He told them that, the multicolored ornaments you have created represent the values of life, love and peace that Christ's Christmas proposes to us anew each year. This year s crib in the Square, was donated by the Bishops and the Government of Malta and is the work of artist Manwel Grech from Gozo. The Nativity scene features 17 figures dressed in traditional Maltese costume as well as a replica of a traditional Luzzu Maltese boat. The Holy Father said that this typical Maltese vessel, recalled the sad and tragic reality of migrants on boats making their way toward Italy, and he expressed the hope that those who visit this nativity scene would be invited to rediscover its symbolic value", which, he said, was a message of fraternity, of sharing, of welcome and solidarity. Pope Francis concluded by telling those gathered that, the crib and the tree form a message of hope and love, and help create a Christmas spirit that can draw us closer to living with faith the mystery of the birth of the Redeemer who came to this earth in simplicity and meekness. TUESDAY DECEMBER 13TH Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM followed by the Qurbono (Divine Liturgy) at 5:30 PM. Adoration will resume at 6:00 PM and will conclude with the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Adult Bible Study at 7:00 PM, the theme this week is the Announcement of the Kingdom of God, Matthew 4:13-17, Mark 1: Please bring a dish to share. WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 14TH We will have a reconciliation service at 7:00 PM in preparation for Christmas. There will be several priests available to hear confessions. Please make an effort to join us. BROOKS ACADEMY OAKS Brooks Academy Oaks is now accepting applications for 4th and 5th graders to join the Brooks Oaks family this fall. Tell your friends or call to schedule an appointment to tour the school and sign up for the new class. MEMORIAL LITURGIES Remembering a deceased family member with a memorial Divine Liturgy is a prayerful and loving remembrance of our loved ones. If you would like to schedule a memorial liturgy, please complete and return the form that was mailed out to you. In addition, you may also provide the flowers for the liturgy (in memory of your loved ones, in honor of someone or for a special intention) and/ or refreshments for the fellowship. We hope to acknowledge the names of the people that provide flowers or refreshments in our weekly bulletin. Every effort will be made to accommodate your first choice of date for your liturgy, however that may not always be possible. Please return the form to Fr. Charles Khachan or to Annette Garcia at the church office no later than Wednesday, December 28, Community Life 5 GIVING TREE We will again participate in the Giving Tree program to aid needy children. The giving tree this year will support the mission of the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco that includes education, youth ministry, outreach programs for poor and disadvantaged families and other ministries. Ornaments from the tree represent what each child needs for Christmas. Please remember to put the label on the Christmas gift that you buy and return your gifts to the church or church offices by December 16, CHRISTMAS CONCERT This year, the St. George Maronite Catholic Church Choir & Faith Formation Community will be hosting our annual Christmas Concert. This will take place on Saturday, December 17, 2016 after the 5:00 PM Children s Liturgy from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A reception will then follow in the MCC with a visit from St. Nicholas! (Santa Claus) We will be providing a Momentum Christmas Program Book to all who attend this event, and we encourage all families to participate in this memory keepsake. We kindly ask all interested sponsors to donate the following: $50 for a full page, with family picture included. $25 for a half page, with family picture included. $10 for a quarter page, no picture included. All children are encouraged to participate in the Concert this year, and all families are welcome to attend and join in the musical celebration of this joyful season! The deadline for the program book and for attending the reception is Sunday, December 11th, PARISH BUSINESS DIRECTORY We are in the process of creating a Parish Business Directory.
