Continue to be our refuge and our strength as we undertake this challenge. Bless with Your divine protection our servicemen and servicewomen. Let their faith and trust in You never weaken. Bring them safely home to their loved ones. Let Your wisdom direct our world leaders to seek peace. Through their actions, may harmony and justice be secured. We pray for people of all nations. Fill their hearts with the desire to ensure justice and equality for all. We ask that You watch over those exposed to the horrors of war. Let Your compassion shine on all who dwell in war-torn areas. Guide our daily path to the way of peace. Let us all, in some way, be an instrument of Your peace. Amen. Remember in your prayers the members of our Armed Services, especially: Josh Hayes, cousin of Kathy Perkins; JP Brown, godson of Elizabeth Melo; Justin Molarz, grandson of Susan Molarz; Jesus L. Santiago, cousin of Felix and Ana Morales; Christopher Czapik, grandson of Carol Knittel; Justin Lurker, grandson of Helen Lurker; Robert Michnowicz, nephew of Helen Lurker; Mario Roman, son of Janice Pastures; Marc Repace, grandson of Pat Consiglio; Taylor Setar, daughter of Greg and Terry Setar; Gabriella Gatto, daughter of Carmelo and Nicole Gatto; Laura Roe, daughter of Maria and Luis Pena; Elizabeth Brito and Lisa Marie Brito, daughters of Ivette Brito; Jim Molnar, grandson of Alice Benson. PRAY AND FAST FOR VOCATIONS It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness; He is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you; He is the beauty to which you are so attracted; it is He Who provokes you with that thirst for fullness that will not let you settle for compromise; it is He Who urges you to shed the masks of a false life; it is He Who reads in your hearts your most genuine choices, the choices that others try to stifle. It is Jesus who stirs in you the desire to do something great with your lives, the will to follow an ideal, the refusal to allow yourselves to be grounded down by mediocrity, the courage to commit yourselves humbly and patiently to improving yourselves and society, making the world more human and more fraternal. -St. John Paul II For everything there is a season and a time for every purpose under heaven... a time to heal... for the sick of our Parish and especially for Mary Wagner, Fr. John Morley, Alyssa Alcudia LIFE: AN EPIPHANY OF GOD Life is always a good. Why is life a good? This question is found everywhere in the Bible, and from the very first pages it receives a powerful and amazing answer. The life which God gives man is quite different from the life of all other living creatures, inasmuch as man, although formed from the dust of the earth (cf. Gen 2:7, 3:19; Job 34:15; Ps 103:14; 104:29), is a manifestation of God in the world, a sign of His presence, a trace of His glory (cf. Gen 1:26-27; Ps 8:6). This is what Saint Irenaeus of Lyons wanted to emphasize in his celebrated definition: Man, living man, is the glory of God. Man has been given a sublime dignity, based on the intimate bond which unites him to his Creator: in man there shines forth a reflection of God Himself. -The Gospel of Life, n. 34 PROTECT LIFE Father we praise you for the work of Your hands. For human life, made in Your image, for the gift of Your Son Who saved our nature, for the Power of Your Spirit, Who fills our hearts, for all You bestow upon us, we praise You, we thank You, and we bless You. Help us to protect the life You gave us; support the aged, guide the young, lift up the failing and heal the sick. To all people grant Your truth in its fullness. May those who are yet unborn soon see the light of day and live to give You glory through Christ our Lord. Amen. 3 SUNDAY READINGS First Reading - Isaiah 60: 1-6 Second Reading - Ephesians 3: 2-3a, 5-6 Gospel - Matthew 2: 1-12 Finding God The splendid magi, all sparkle and dash and solemnity, march right up off the pages of Matthew s Gospel and into our churches today. Matthew alone tells us this grand and seductive story so that we might see the light and know that the Child these magi visited is the fulfillment of prophecy, the King of the world that stretches to the magi s home country and beyond, right down the ages to us. We too see and understand anew. Like the magi, our patron saints for this day, we see in the newborn Child the King of the universe and light of the world. Like the magi, we find in ourselves a new faith and a new life. Like them, we return to our home by a new route. We are asked to come away from this festive season ourselves renewed and awake to the presence of God among us. We are asked to find God where God is to be found, to be attentive and surprised and ready to bow down in adoration and to offer our gifts. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR THE WEEK Monday: 1 Jn 3: 22 4: 6; Mk 4: 12-17, Tuesday: 1 Jn 4: 7-10; Mk 6: Wednesday: 1 Jn 4: 11-18; Mk 6: Thursday: 1 Jn 4: 19 5: 4; Lk 4: Friday: 1 Jn 5: 5-13; Lk 5: Saturday: 1 Jn 5: 14-21; Jn 3: Sunday: Is 40: 1-5, 9-11; Ti 2: 11-14, 3: 4-7; Lk 3: 15-16, OFFERTORY COLLECTION December 16, 2018 $4,910 $5,243 (2017) December 23, 2018 $5,725 $5,315 (2017) Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have; God is pleased by sacrifices of that kind. -Hebrews 13:16 EUCHARISTIC ADORATION, is held each Thursday, 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., in the Church Chapel. Eucharistic Adoration is the practice of placing the consecrated bread or host on the altar so that the faithful may join in prayer and worship before the presence of Christ in the Eucharist. Praying before the Eucharist can be a time of reflection, adoration, and growth in true love for God and others. The Eucharist draws us closer to God, nourishes our own life and spirituality, and impels us to be witnesses of God's love in the world through our words and actions. PASTOR S CORNER I am grateful for your many generosities this past year, and for all of your contributions to Church life. It is no small thing. Everything we do for the Lord has eternal value. God has blessed us in many ways, and I pray that we continue to look toward Him in all we do. And may His blessings at Christmas, remain with us throughout the new year. Yours in Christ, Fr. 4 Building Communities of Welcome This week, the Catholic Church in the United States celebrates National Migration Week. This week is an opportunity for us to reflect on the circumstances confronting migrants including: immigrants, refugees, and survivors of human trafficking. National Migration Week Prayer Loving Father, protect, we pray, all those forced from their homes by violence and persecution, guide them to places of shelter and safety, and grant that people migrate always by choice and not necessity. Watch over children who migrate alone, protect them from the risks they face all by themselves, help them reach their destination safely, and reunite them with those from whom they have been separated. Guide all migrants who seek a better life, to new opportunities, and grant them a new beginning. We beseech You to give each of us the strength and generosity to welcome the stranger and to open our homes to the newcomer, and in doing so to comfort those who are suffering. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. NOTE: TEMPORARY PARISH OFFICE HOURS Weekdays: 9:00AM to 3:00PM EPIPHANY OF THE LORD After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him. When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. When he had called together all the people's chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born. In Bethlehem in Judea, they replied, for this is what the prophet has written: But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel. Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, Go and make a careful search for the Child. As soon as you find Him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship Him. After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the Child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with His mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped Him. Then they opened their treasures and presented Him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route. Matthew 2:1-12 Father, You revealed Your Son to the nations by the guidance of a star. Lead us to Your glory in Heaven by the light of faith. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR TROOPS O Prince of peace, we humbly ask Your protection for all our men and women in military service. Give them unflinching courage to defend with honor, dignity, and devotion, the rights of all who are imperiled by injustice and evil. Be their rock, their shield, and their stronghold and let them draw their strength from You. Amen.
