The First Simple Rule : Do No Harm From The General Rules of the United Methodist Church It is therefore expected of all who continue therein that they should continue to evidence their desire of salvation, First: By doing no harm, by avoiding evil of every kind, especially that which is most generally practiced, such as: The taking of the name of God in vain. The profaning the day of the Lord, either by doing ordinary work therein or by buying or selling. Drunkenness: buying or selling spirituous liquors, or drinking them, unless in cases of extreme necessity. Slaveholding; buying or selling slaves. Fighting, quarreling, brawling, brother going to law with brother; returning evil for evil, or railing for railing; the using many words in buying or selling. The buying or selling goods that have not paid the duty. The giving or taking things on usury i.e., unlawful interest. Uncharitable or unprofitable conversation; particularly speaking evil of magistrates or of ministers. Doing to others as we would not they should do unto us. Doing what we know is not for the glory of God, as: The putting on of gold and costly apparel. The taking such diversions as cannot be used in the name of the Lord Jesus. The singing those songs, or reading those books, which do not tend to the knowledge or love of God. Softness and needless self-indulgence. Laying up treasure upon earth. Borrowing without a probability of paying; or taking up goods without a probability of paying for them. 6

7 ANNOUNCEMENTS February 7, 2016 UPCOMING WORSHIP The Way A Lenten Pilgrimage Pilgrimage describes Jesus journey to Jerusalem and to the cross at the end of His life. It also refers to His 40 days in the wilderness before His ministry began. Our Lenten pilgrimage can be seen as following the road Christ walked to Jerusalem and to the cross; it can be seen as the journey of conversion (which happens again and again in our lives); and also as following the path to the center of the soul. The purpose of all our journeys is to come home said G.K. Chesterton. All our Lenten pilgrimages lead us home to God, and bring us to the foot of the cross. February 10: Inter-Generational Ash Wednesday Service. 6:30pm Lenten Worship Series begins. The Way A Lenten Pilgrimage. Joel 2:1-2, The Way Back(U-Turn). Come for SPIRIT night low-cost meal at 5:30pm, and to join in an art project for all ages, which will be incorporated into the evening service. Gretchen Considine, who recently walked the pilgrimage route in France and Spain to Santiago de Compostela, known as the Camino de Santiago, will be our special guest in worship. February 14. First Sunday in Lent Luke 4:1-13. The Wandering Way (Maze). Special Music: solo by Mara Schick and duet by John Ellington and Rex Flygt. Share Your Voice!
