1 LEGION OF MARY MATER ECCLESIAE SENATUS OF HOUSTON August 12 th The Assumption of Mary, August 15th QUARTERLY REPORTS DISTANT COUNCILS DALLAS COMITUM Queen of Peace The doctrine of the Assumption of Mary had its beginnings in the Byzantine Empire around the 6th century. An annual feast honoring Mary gradually grew into a commemoration of Mary s death called the Feast of Dormition ( falling asleep ). As the practice spread to the West, an emphasis was placed on Mary s resurrection and the glorification of Mary s body as well as her soul, and the name of the feast was thereby changed to the Assumption. It is still observed on August 15, as it was in the Middle Ages. The Assumption of Mary was made an official dogma of the Roman Catholic Church in 1950 by Pope Pius XII. r. ALLOCUTIO Sr. Sharon Reese-President, Houston Senatus We are all God s Children God is speaking to us Let the Children come to Me. Turn to Mary for guidance, to teach us, to cure our Illness, to console us in our grief, to recall us when we wander. We are all God s children. God is speaking to us Let the Children come first. Love, no matter what! We must think before we say something. We must think about our brothers and sisters. What is it that I need to do? The greatest commandment is Love. Children are suffering today, they need us to care for them and to pray for them. The Comitium now has a specific place to hold their meetings this year at All Saints Church. Extension in the Comitium has been ongoing for this period. At St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Keller, TX which is in the Ft. Worth Diocese, Br. Don has begun forming a Praesidium. At St. Joseph in Richardson after forming an English speaking Praesidium, vetted an unofficial Vietnamese Praesidium "OL Mother of God", affiliated and appointed their officers. The Annual report from "Rosa Mystica" St. Alphonsus-Syro Malabar Church reported a healthy membership of 14 active members, with four on probation and 27 Auxiliary Members, and all officer positions filled. Their works include visitation to the homes of elderly, the sick, teaching religious education, the PVS program, leading the Rosary at wakes and funerals, and at an elderly senior center. A past highlight, praying for the release of Fr. Tom, who was abducted and held for 557 days, and was released is so GREAT! Thank you, Jesus. Reports were received from "Star of the Sea" Korean Curia, "Mary Queen of the Rosary" Sherman Curia, "lmmaculate Conception" Dallas South Curia, and "Immaculate Conception" BVM Vietnamese Curia - Garland. The Comitium promotes all the Legion Causes. President, Sr. Jeanette, spoke to the council about the importance of clearing outside speakers by the diocese.
