4 Page 4 Second Sunday of Easter April 12, 2015 Rector s Corner The Second Sunday of Easter Divine Mercy Sunday Our celebration of the Lord s resurrection continues today with Divine Mercy Sunday, which completes the Octave of Easter. Pope Saint John Paul II added this memorial to the Liturgical calendar to emphasize the boundless mercy of God, which has been revealed to us in the resurrection of Jesus. I would like to take a moment to express the thanks of all in the Cathedral Parish to those who made our Liturgies for Holy Week and Easter so beautiful and so meaningful. Many, many people were involved and I am grateful to everyone, but I would like to single out just a few. First, many thanks to Mr. Mac Fogle and to our Cathedral Choir and Musicians for the magnificent music! As usual, our Choir sang beautifully. I would like to thank our Ushers, Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, and our Altar Servers for the dignity and skill that you brought to our Holy Week. You are always so faithful and reliable. I would like to thank Brother Robert and all who assisted him with the decorations and beautiful flowers in the Cathedral. The Church looked beautiful, thanks to our talented florists! And, I would like to thank all who came to assist in the Church s spring cleaning before Holy Week. You did a terrific job, and I am grateful to Ms. Lynn Evert for organizing our work details. I want to thank Mrs. Peggy Baker and Mrs. Gloria Keane, who staff our visitor s desk each week and weekend. Do you know that at this time of year the Cathedral has almost 2000 visitors each day? And thanks to our docents who give such wonderful tours each day for the visitors. I hope that your celebration of Easter has been a joyous one. As we continue in the Easter season we will move towards Mother s Day (with roses to honor and remember our mothers), First Holy Communion for the children of the parish, and Confirmation for our youth. Money raised will be used to fund CCW projects throughout the year. The roses will be used to decorate the Cathedral on Mother s Day weekend. For a $5.00 donation, a rose may be placed in honor or memory of your mother, grandmother, godmother, or any woman who has had a positive impact on your life. A table will be on the plaza after all masses the weekends of April and May 2-3 for you to purchase rose(s) for these special women. All honorees will be listed on an insert in the bulletin that weekend. Please consider this as a meaningful way to remember your mother.

5 Page 5 Second Sunday of Easter April 12, 2015 On this second Sunday of Easter season, we are challenged by the example of the early Christian community in the passage from the Acts of the Apostles. There was no needy person among them. How are we called to live so that what was true of the early Christians might also be said of us? Let us pray today for the grace to respond to that challenge. Diocesan Pilgrimage to Philadelphia for the World Meeting of Families The Holy Father, Pope Francis will be visiting Philadelphia for the 8th World Meeting of Families, we still have seats available in the bus. The Diocese of Savannah welcomes you to participate in a pilgrimage to Philadelphia from September 21-28, Mass will be celebrated daily with ample time for devotion and reflection. Our pilgrimage will culminate with a Festival of Families Papal Mass on September 28th. Fr. Douglas Clark from St. Matthews Church in Statesboro, Ga. will be our spiritual director. The Christian Service Committee thanks you very much for the overwhelming amount of food collected during the March Social Apostolate Food Drive. Large amounts of food were picked up several times a week. Sister Julie also said the variety made our clients very happy. To date, over 128 families received grocery assistance with the help of the food drive from the Cathedral. With the increasing cost of food, this is wonderful help for families who are dealing with all the other rising costs. In a practical way, we multiplied our loaves and fishes. Thank you and God Bless you all. Youth Event End of year Savannah Deanery Youth Event will be held this Sunday, April 12th from 5:00-7:00 PM at Villa Marie. All high school teens invited. Dinner and water games! St. Vincent's and Benedictine Present South Pacific! St. Vincent's Academy and Benedictine Military School presents Rodgers and Hammerstein's "South Pacific" on Saturday, April 18th at 7:00pm and Sunday, April 19th at 3:00pm, at the Trustees Theater. Knights of Columbus State Charity Raffle Knights of Columbus Council 631 will be selling tickets for their annual State charity raffle after the 5:30 pm Mass on Saturday, April 18th and after the 8:00, 10:00, 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM Masses on Sunday, April 19th. The funds will be used to help build a new monastery for Our Lady of Confidence Carmelite Monastery on Coffee Bluff. Motorcycle Rally for BC and SVA The Savannah Knights of Columbus will take to the streets in support of our children and education. The Knights of Columbus Council 631 and The Knights on Bikes is sponsoring a charity motorcycle ride in support of student financial assistance for Benedictine Military School (BC) and St. Vincent s Academy (SVA). Both schools represent the highest standards of religious based education in Savannah and the Coastal Empire. The rally will be held on Saturday, April 18th starting at 8:00 AM at the Savannah Harley-Davidson located at 6 Gateway Blvd West, Savannah GA They will ride down Highway 17 to the Brunswick, GA Knights of Columbus located at 4299 US Hwy 17 North, Brunswick, GA The registration fee for the ride is $50 and includes coffee and donuts for the start of the ride and lunch at the conclusion of the ride. A participating parishioner is a parishioner who attends Mass on weekends and Holy Days of Obligation, participates in the activities of the parish, contributes to the offertory collection in a recognizable way by using envelopes or checks as a means of verification of attendance.
