2 This is the week for the Sacred Heart Lenten Retreat, Be a Disciple from the Womb to the Tomb, being held March Join us for the Sacred Heart Lenten Retreat, Be a Disciple from the Womb to the Tomb, being held March 12-14, at 6:30pm each evening. Rev. Chuck Edwards of St. Anthony of Padua Parish will lead our retreat, helping us to focus on our call to discipleship and stewardship. On Monday, March 12, we kick off the retreat at 5:00pm with a Soup Social, Fill your Stomach; Feed your Soul in the Sacred Heart Parish Center. Join us for homemade soups, crackers/breads, and drinks to satisfy our human hunger before feeding our spiritual hunger with Fr. Chuck s presentation in the Sacred Heart Church. Area priests will be present on Tuesday, March 13, to assist in administering the Sacrament of Reconciliation as part of the evening program. The concluding presentation on Wednesday, March 14, is part of an all-parish Mass, including Sacred Heart School and PSR students and their families. The 8:30am Wednesday Mass will not be held this day so we can celebrate the Holy Eucharist at the 6:30pm evening Mass as one family. Sign-up sheets are in the back of church for the Mass ministries. We d love to have help from all ages! A note from Fr. Michal, our pastor... This weekend, we welcome Fr. Chuck Edwards to our weekend Masses. Fr. Edwards will be leading our Lenten Retreat this week on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. He is the director of the Office for Stewardship and Discipleship for the Diocese of Springfield and will share his inspirational reflection each evening. On Tuesday, you will have the opportunity to receive the sacrament of reconciliation and then we will conclude with a 6:30pm Mass on Wednesday. Everyone is encouraged to attend and please bring a friend. I am looking for a person(s) who will help us with our landscaping to trim the shrubs and trim trees. Spring is just around the corner and it would be nice to get a plan in place to spruce up our parish grounds. Please talk to me if you can help. For the next two weeks, we will not have an 8:30am Mass on Wednesday. This upcoming week, we moved it to 6:30pm for the Lenten Retreat. The following week, I will be at a spring gathering with the Bishop and fellow priests. Once again this year, I will bless Easter Baskets on Holy Saturday, March 31, at 10:30am, in the Sacred Heart Parish Center. Please join us with your unique baskets for a 20-minute blessing. Please check out the flier in next weekend s bulletin for complete information. The Good Friday liturgy, including veneration of the cross and communion, will be celebrated at 6:00pm. This change was made to give everyone the opportunity to attend and will allow the proper amount of time and reverence to celebrate this special liturgy. The ministry sign-up sheets for Holy Week and Easter Sunday will be in the back of church. If you know which Mass(es) your family will be attending and can serve in a ministry, please sign up. Easter flower donations are being accepted in memory of a loved one. We will once again have a special dedication page in our Easter bulletin. Triduum Sacrum The schedule for the Triduum is as follows: Holy Thursday (March 29) 7:00pm: Mass of the Lord s Supper Good Friday (March 30) 12:10pm: Stations of the Cross 6:00pm: Good Friday Liturgy Holy Saturday (March 31) 8:30pm: Easter Vigil Easter Sunday (April 1) Masses at 8:30am, 10:30am, and 5:00pm Spanish

3 ~ Restoration Update ~ Our Restoration Committee (Fr. Michal, Sr. Rene, Mike Schmitz, Vicki Walker, Marty Stock, Judy Luchtefeld, Judy Bergfeld, Penny Wiedman, and Christy Hakman) are available to answer your questions and address your concerns. Our Restoration Committee has been working with Greg Fleck, Director for Property, Buildings, and Cemeteries, at the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois. Greg has been very helpful in offering his expertise and experiences as we move through the various stages of our restoration planning. After meeting with Greg and further discussing our options, the committee decided to use a Modified Design/Build process for our restoration project. This will ensure a better quality job and a much smoother project. We have formally requested Bishop Paprocki s permission to interview local general contractors so as to hire one whom will work closely with us and our architect as we move forward. Once that process begins, the architect will design a preliminary set of plans which will be submitted to us for approval and the contractor can then begin getting estimates on the project. Once approved, the architect will proceed with design development plans. It is at this point that the contractor will give Sacred Heart Parish a not to exceed guaranteed maximum price. Once approval is given for this stage, the contractor will start working hand in hand with the architect to develop the final set of plans with bids and final cost. Keep in mind that we will be working simultaneously on a formal capital campaign so that we may raise the necessary funding for the project. As we have mentioned before, the Diocese requires us to have 50% of the total projected costs in hand before beginning the restoration. Our capital campaign manager, Walsh & Associates, will be on site the week of March 11, so that we may start planning the campaign calendar and putting the proper staff and volunteers in place to begin the campaign. This process will need many hearts and hands to ensure its success. Please say YES if and when you are asked to join us in this exciting process! As always, we ask for your continued prayers as we work to restore the Church. If you have questions regarding our upcoming restoration project, please contact Fr. Michal or any of the committee members. May God bless us as we work to restore the Church. The position will run from late April to early November, approximately 15 to 25 hours per week.
