SERMON Working Towards a Healthy Church A c t s 2 0 (Pages in the pew Bible) Dan Seale Questions for Reflection: What is it that is more important to Paul than his personal survival and comfort (Acts 20:17-27)? What is more important to you than these things? How would a Christian grow in these areas? What do we learn from Acts 20:33-35 about work and generosity? What are some specific ways that Christians might apply this to their own lives today? Hear Sunday s Sermon online at
WORSHIP THROUGH GIVING Deacon s Prayer Ken Coyer The Giving of Our Tithes & Offerings COMMUNION PREPARATION SONG For All the Saints For all the saints, who from their labors rest, Who Thee by faith before the world confessed, Thy Name, O Jesus, be forever blessed. Alleluia, Allelu. For All the Saints 1997 Christopher Miner Music Words by William H. How Music by Christopher Miner Thou wast their rock, their fortress and their might; Thou, Lord, their captain in the well-fought fight; Thou, in the darkness drear, their one true Light. Alleluia, Allelu. O may Thy soldiers, faithful, true and bold, Fight as the saints who nobly fought of old, And win with them the victor s crown of gold. Alleluia, Allelu. And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long, Steals on the ear the distant triumph song, And hearts are brave, again, and arms are strong. Alleluia, Allelu. But lo! There breaks a yet more glorious day; The saints triumphant rise in bright array; The King of glory passes on His way. Alleluia, Alleluia.
Doxology (please stand) Trinity Hymnal #731 COMMUNION INVITATION AND FENCING OF THE TABLE PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING & CONSECRATION Words of Institution 1 Corinthians 11:23-30 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me. For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord s death until he comes. Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. *The Lord s Supper is the family meal of Christians. Redeemer Presbyterian Church welcomes all committed followers of Jesus Christ to partake of this sacrament. If you are trusting in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, and are a baptized member of a congregation that proclaims the gospel, we invite you to participate in the Lord s Supper with us. If you are not a Christian or are not prepared to share in this meal, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer (see prayers on the next page). We hope this time is helpful to you as you consider your relationship with Jesus Christ and with His people, the Church.
Distribution of the Bread and the Cup Please note that the purple cups are filled with wine and the clear cups are filled with grape juice. Prayer of Thanksgiving and Dedication PRAYERS FOR THOSE NOT TAKING THE LORD S SUPPER Prayer for Those Searching for the Truth Lord Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth, and the life. Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open to me the reality of who you are. Give me an understanding of you that is coherent, convincing, and that leads to the life that you promise. Amen. Prayer of Belief Lord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever before believed, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you for paying my debt, bearing my punishment on the cross, and offering forgiveness and new life. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive you as Savior and Lord. Amen. Prayer of Commitment Lord Jesus, you have called us to follow you in baptism and in a life of committed discipleship in your church. Grant that I may take the necessary steps to be one with your people, and live in the fullness of your Spirit. Amen.
RESPONSE AND BLESSING O Love That Will Not Let Me Go O Love that will not let me go, I rest my weary soul in Thee; I give Thee back the life I owe, That in Thine ocean depths its flow May richer, fuller be. O Love That Will Not Let Me Go 1997 Christopher Miner Music Words: George Matheson Music: Christopher Miner O Light that followest all my way, I yield my flickering torch to Thee; My heart restores its borrowed ray, That in Thy sunshine s blaze its day May brighter, fairer be. O Joy that seekest me through pain, I cannot close my heart to Thee; I trace the rainbow through the rain, And feel the promise is not vain That morn shall tearless be. O Cross that liftest up my head, I dare not ask to fly from Thee; I lay in dust life s glory dead, And from the ground there blossoms red Life that shall endless be. BENEDICTION
