11 YANGON Yangon, the commercial city of Myanmar and it has colonial architectures including the legendary Strand Hotel, museums, gardens and peaceful Inya and Kandawgyi lakes. Shwedagon Pagoda with its amazing mix of pavilions, stupas, images and bells is famous highlight of any visit to Yangon and Myanmar itself. Full of trees and shade Yangon could be one of the most charming cities in the East. Yangon has earned the name of The Green City of the East.

12 BAGO (Pegu) Bago (Pegu) is situated only about 80 km from Yangon and easily reached. It takes 1 hour and 30 minutes drive from Yangon. Bago is and old royal capital called Hanthawady and a full of legendry with Mon and Myanmar 40 years war. Kanbawzathadi Palace and Museum is the interesting historical sightseeing place. There are many pagodas and monasteries such as Shwemawdaw Pagoda, Hintha Gon Pagoda, Shwethalyaung Buddha, Maha Kalyani Sima ( Maha Kalyani Thein), and Mahazedi Pagoda.

13 THANLYIN (Syriam) & KYAUKTAN Thanlyin (Syriam) & Kyauktan are within easy day-tripping distance from Yangon. A short ride out of town will take you to the large, golden Kyaik-khauk Pagoda, rising on a hillock. Then the tombs of two Myanmar writers: Natshinnaung and Padethayaza are just before this pagoda.the Yele Paya or midriver pagoda at Kyauktan is situated across the river to Thanylyin.

14 TWAN-TEA A small town on the Twante canal is noted for its pottery with welldesigned, utilitarian containers of varying shapes and sizes. The pots are made in huge thatched-roof sheds in the Oh-bo district.

15 BAGAN Bagan is the most amazing sight in Myanmar, also the seat of the first Empire of Myanmar, stretching back from the Ayeyarwady, stand literally thousands of stupas and temples. Spectacular sight seeing in Bagan is sunset over the Ayeyarwady River, viewed from the top of Mingalazedi or Shwesandaw Pagoda. Lacquer ware is well known cultural product which it can be bought there.

16 SALE (Sa-lay) It is a small town about 15km south of Bagan, down the Ayeyarwaddy River. U Pone Nya Museum, formerly the Yoke Sone Monastery, exhibits antique lacquer-wares, wooden reliefs and a large standing gilded Buddha image. The figures carved outside the front of the building are worth seeing. Another place worth visiting is Tha-ta-na Kyaung (Keythar monastery) where Tipitaka texts are housed in a large red lacquered cabinet.

17 POPA About 30 miles (50km) from Bagan is Mount Popa, Popa Taung Kalut in Bama (Burmese), which soars 2417ft (737m) above the plain. This is the abode of a powerful spirit, the Popa Goddess. She was Princess Wunna Theingi, the sister of King Manuha, who had escaped while her royal family was being brought to Bagan. The Popa Mother is considered kinder than most spirits, or Nat as they are called, and much loved by her worshippers. She protects women and brings them good fortune. Her two sons are more powerful and more feared, for they will not hesitate to punish those who displease them. They have a separate shrine in a small village further north, near Mandalay. A few yards from the foot of the mountain is the shrine of Min Maha Giri, Lord of the Mountain, and his family of Spirits. He is the protector of house, town or city. He and his sister, Lady Golden Face, guard the Tharaba Gate of Bagan, with their images on either side.

18 MANDALAY Mandalay is the second largest city of Myanmar and the last capital of the Myanmar Kings. The heart of Myanmar traditional cultures, Mandalay has a number of attractions well worth visiting. Here can see Yadanabon palace surrounding moats up from the Mandalay Hill, with stairways, temples and sweeping views. Kuthodaw pagoda, the world s biggest book and Mahamuni pagoda, ancient Rakhine Buddha image are the places which no one should miss. The area around Mandalay where there are ancient cities, Amarapura where U Pein bridge, Ava, Sagaing and Mingun. Then there is the atmospheric cold hill station of Pyin Oo Lwin (Maymyo), about 69 km away from Mandalay.

19 AMARAPURA It is situated 11 km south of Mandalay, an ancient capital before Mandalay was built. There are several interesting sites to be seen. Pahtodawgyi, built by King Bagyidaw in 1820, stood outside of the old city walls. South of Pahtodawgyi, U Pein s Bridge which is 1.2 km- long footbridge, constructed with teak planks. Bagaya Kyaung, one of Myanmar s largest and most active wooden monasteries, dating to the mid-19th century is located just out of town on the road of Sagaing. Once a royal city, now there are also silk weavers, bronze casters, wood carvers and other artisans.

20 IN-WA (AVA) In-wa is a small town south of Amarapura and it was another ancient capital of the Second Myanmar Empire. The interesting sites to be seen in In-wa are 27 meter-high Nanmyint watch tower, Maha Aungmye Bonzan Monastery, lacquer ware industry and In-wa bridge 16-span bridge dates to 1934 and is the only structure that crosses Ayeyarwaddy River.

21 SAGAING Another one ancient capital, Sagaing lies 21 km south west of Mandalay, which is known as a religious centre that supports dozens Buddhist monasteries and nunneries as well as a major monastic hospital. There are certainly plenty of pagodas and stupas scattered over the Sagaing hills which rise on the western bank of the Ayeyarwaddy. Other places worth visiting are Thabyaedan Fort, Kaunghmudaw Pagoda ( a copy of the Mahazeti Pagoda in Sri Lanka), and Ywahtaung village where the home of the silversmiths guilds is.

22 MINGUN It is located about 11 km upriver from Mandalay on the opposite bank of the Ayeyarwady. There is the huge and incomplete Mingun Pagoda, King Bodawpaya of the late 18th century planned to build it to a height of 500 feet but it was left unfinished at 160 feet. Then you can see there Mingun Bell, a hung, uncracked bell and weighing 55,555 viss (90 tonnes).

23 PYIN OO LWIN A popular hill station, Pyin oo Lwin was renamed Maymyo. It is about 69 km away from Mandalay and over 1000 meters above sealevel. It is well known for its colonial era buildings, pine trees, eucalyptus and silver-oak abound in town. The town itself is easygoing and full of interest. One of interesting places is 175 hectare Botanical Garden. There are several natural attractions around Pyin Oo Lwin, including a number of caves, waterfalls and tribal villages. Pwe Kauk and Ani-Sakan Waterfalls, Goteik Viaduct and Peik Chin Myaung Caves are places which attract to tourists.

24 MONYWA It is about 136 km to the west of Mandalay and situated on the eastern bank of the Chindwin River. Monywar is a major trade centre for agricultural products of Chindwin Valley. The interesting sites are Than-Bok-De Pagoda with over 500,000 Buddha images, Bodhi-tahtaung which means one thousand of Bodhi trees, Ledi Kyaungteik monastery where Buddhist scriptures are inscribed on 806 stone slabs and Kyauka village noted for its own style of lacquer ware.

25 YANDABO (CRUISE TOUR, MANDALAY to BAGAN) On the way of Mandalay-Bagan boat trip, we can make short visit to that village. A Place renowned for its pottery industry is Yandabo, where you can meet with rural people and closely study their daily lives.

26 INLE LAKE The highest lake rimming high hills is 22 km long, 11 km wide, 1328 meters above sea level. The home to the Inthar national race, Inle lake is famous for having floating villages, pagodas and monasteries. Interesting distinctive rowing style of local fishermen is which involves standing at the stern on one leg and wrapping the other leg around the oar. The Inthar grow vegetables on floating beds of slit and cut weeds tacked to the lake bottom with bamboo poles. The beds can be detached and moved as necessary. Phaung Daw Oo Kyaung, Kaungdine which is Inthar village seen potting, weaving and there is hot springs spa are places worth visiting.

27 PINDAYA CAVE The three caves along the cliff are believed to contain more than 8,000 images. The southernmost cave containing the main shrine is 490 ft (149m) long and is filled with images of all sizes, carved in wood, stone, marble and bronze, some thickly gilded. Here one can see many Buddha images in the healing posture, with a bowl on the upturned palm of the left hand while the forefinger and thumb of the right hand holds a fruit called hpan khar, (Terminalia chebula) which is often used in traditional medicine.

28 TAUNGGYI The capital of Shan state, Taunggyi is situated at 1430 meters as a hill station and also a growing trade center of southern Shan state. You can go to Inle lake area takes about one hour and also Kakku pagoda complex from there.

29 KYAING TONG The city of Golden Triangle Region, Kyaing Tong is surrounded by Wa, Shan, Akha and Lahu villages. It is interesting to see many ethnic tribes in colorful dresses. It is far away 163 km from north of the border town of Tachilek ( opposite Mae Sai, Thailand).

30 KYAIKHTIYO Golden Rock Pagoda This mystical pagoda is built atop an enormous gold-leafed boulder that is delicately balanced on the very edge of a massive cliff face. It is on the edge of the hill over 1100 km above sea-level. Kyaikhto the town at foot of the hill is about 160 km from Yangon. It is the path 11 km climbs about 1000 meters in altitude and long the way from the base camp of Kinpun. There are various rest halls and shrines. There is a steep path for cars leading to the mountain top.

31 MAWLAMYAING The capital of Mon state is the third largest city after Yangon and Mandalay and was once an ancient city. Former name Motmailain in the Mon language evolved in Mawlamyine. This town fell into British hand after the First Anglo- Burma War in That s why you can feel the atmosphere of post-colonial decay till now.

32 HPA-AN Hpa-an, the capital of Kayin state is a beautiful town with wide lakes, lush islands, limestone cliffs and soaring peaks, with mountains ranges receding into the distance. You can see Zwe Ka Bin mountain, symbol of Kayin state.

33 SITTWE The capital of Rakhine state, Sittwe sits at the mouth of the Kaladan River where it empties into the Bay of Bangal. Sittwe has at least a 2000 year history of habitation, though it developed as a modern trading port after the first Anglo- Burma war of 1826.

34 MRAUK U Mrauk U, a centre for one of Myanmar s most powerful kingdom was founded in It lays the banks of Aungdat Chaung, a tributary of the Kaladan River, 72 km from the coast. The two earlier kingdoms in the area are Danyawady (circa 1st to 6th centuries) and Wethali (3rd to 10th centuries), the remains of which are still visible to the north. Mrauk U is look like another place of Bagan, where there is a host of ancient pagodas.

35 MYITKYINA Myitkyina is the capital city of Kachin State. One of the sightseeing attractions in Myitkyina area is Myit-Son, the confluence of the Mekha and Malikha rivers, 45 km north of town, the beginning of the great Ayeyarwaddy River. There are regular flights from Yangon and Manadalay to Myitkyina.

36 PUTA O Putao is a town in the far north of the Kachin state surrounded by snow-peaked mountains. The highlands north of Putao are considered one of the most pristine Himalayan environments in Asia and could become a major ecotourism destination. It is the nearest town to the base camp for climbing Mt. Hkakaborazi which is 5889 meters high. This mountain is the highest mountain in Myanmar and in Southeast Asia.

37 MT. VICTORIA Trekking to Mount Victoria, a wellknown summit in Chin State of Myanmar is gaining favour among eco tourist. The 10,200-foot, Mount Victoria is snow free the round. Apart from vigorous trekking, its flora and fauna hold a great attraction. The thick forests of Mt.Victoria used to be abundant in wild life-tigers, leopards, bears and sambur and barking deer. It is great for bird watching and observing butterflies. In the houses among plantations, tattooed women in colourful national races, doing household chores with smoking pipes in their mouth. Local youths in national dress welcomed and greeted the visitors in ceremonial fashion complete with bonfires and dances.

38 NGAPALI BEACH Ngapali Beach is one of Myanmar s most attractive seaside spots with white sand beach and crystal clear water. The origin of the name is some of a mystery, but the most popular story says that it was named by a homesick Italian who came from Naples. There is more to do around Ngapali than just swimming, sunbathing and snorkeling. The bicycles can be rent to tour several of the villages, such as Ngapali, Lintha, Kyitaw and Myabyin. The beach is about 6.4 km from Thandwe. There is a number of airlines offer flights from Yangon. It is also accessible by road.

39 Chaungtha Beach Chaungtha beach, an attractive wide beach with a muddy delta look is located 40 km to the west of Pathein in Ayeyarwady Division. There are bungalow type hotels along the beach with modern facilities. Chaungtha beach is the nearest ocean resort available to foreign tourists, being easily reached from Yangon in half a day by road.

40 Ngwe Saung Beach Ngwe Saung Beach, opened in the year 2000 became known as one of the most popular seaside resorts for domestic visitors. It is located in the Ayeyarwady Division, some 48 kilometers from Pathein. It takes only one hour drive from Pathein and about six hours drive from Yangon. Ngwe Saung Beach and Chaungtha Beach are also possible to travel from Yangon to Pathein by plane or double-decker river boat and take a car for the rest.
