2 Vidyanagar College HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT The Department of Philosophy was one of the few departments with which the college resumed its journey in 963. From the first session ( ) I. Sc. level and B.A. Pass course level Philosophy classes were started. Prof. Kishori Mohan Bhattacharya was the only teacher oh the department. Prof. Amiya Ranjan Patra was appointed to this department in 968. From the session this department got affiliation to open B.A. Honours course. Prof. Bhattacharya retired in March 998. At present the department runned by two fulltime faculty and one Contructual Whole-time teachers. Porf. Bibekananda sau joined this department 2st July, 999. Prof. Amiya Ranjan Patra retired in October, Prof. Kamal Kanti Biswas joined this department in October, Prof. Smt. Supana Bera joined in November, Considering the workload guest and Part-time lecturers were appointment in verious sessions. Prof. Soma Das, Prof. Madhuchhanda Bhattcharya, Prof. Proshit Ranjan Ghosh, Prof. Utpal Das, Prof. Krishna Kanta Dey, Prof. Partha Roy, Prof. Dwayeeta Nag Roy, Prof Achintya Manna, Prof. Bhaswati Basu helped to make a stedy progress of this department. Methods of teaching followed - lecture, bord-work, power point presentation, question-answer method based classes. The students of the department take part in NSS, Sports and other social works. Since its inception the department has lived up to its reputation with consistantly good results.

6 Evaluation Plan: Student Selection: Students are selected for promotion to Part II & III are screened for University Examination on the basis of academic record. This includes 75% attendance and securing of pass marks in round of year assessment through class interrogation, class test, Mid-term test, home assignment and also College Test in the end of every year. Schedule for Examination: Part I, II, III (Honours & General) Mid-term Exam. Mid-week of November Part III College Test (Honours & General) 2 nd week of January Part II College Test (Honours & General) 2 nd week of February Part I College Test (Honours & General) 2 nd week of March At least five class tests are held in a single year. Feed Back to Students and Guardians: On the basis of Class test result and evaluated answer-scripts, the respective teachers convey to the Honours students on a one-to-one basis their weaknesses and mistakes for rectification. The overall performance of each student is reviewed at the end of each year and conveyed to teacher-guardian meeting when necessary. Regular detection and warning to absentees and defaulters.
