10 Messed Up... By Choice Life Is... Bhroom Bhrooom Bhroooom The way Sharman Joshi explains how a motor works, in the movie Three Idiots Oh God! Once again, I am back to square one. Mistake repeated. Unforgivable. Now suffer. Suffer being lonely among your own people; confined within four walls; no freedom (no two-wheeler here); and no casual interactions. Feelings are present, but suppressed deep down under the covers of being practical all time, responsibilities and other being adult stuff. No major deal since everyone over here seems to be suffering from the same. Why??? What has happened to my rational decisionmaking attitude? What was going in my mind when I decided to leave the job (without any backup plan)? Is it the impact of my Graha Dasha? My friend, Deepika says Scorpions are under the influence of Sade Sati till the year October Or this is my hormonal imbalance issue which is not letting my brain to stay stable- I feel giddy 1 1

11 Nikita when I don t take medicines. Ah! Let me tell you I am suffering from PCOD (Poly Cystic Ovarian Disease) since 15 years and Endometrial Hyperplasia too, I suppose. One of the either is the cause of the other. I don t know which is what, please Google the technical details. Have I introduced you to my lifetime partner? The one, which lives with me since I don t know when; no matter what the situation is, or what time of the day (or night) it is. It s my inhaler - Asthalin. I have suffered from asthma since childhood. It was gifted with my DNA structure. And now this, ruptured ligament at the left knee. And career? What is the fudge about? The ladies of my family are embroidery experts, hence I always knew I had to be a fashion designer and give due credit to their talent. Exploring this field brought a reality check - my designs are too creative and complex to be put into wardrobe. Then I found MBA was in-trend, which resulted in a management degree. This course had definitely built up my self confidence but being straight forward is too injurious to the health of corporate jobs. One needs to be diplomatic in opinions and use sugar coating words to crack the deals. That s not me and living a dual-personality is not my style of living. When you are a topper in studies and sports, always behaved sincere and mature, and kept a strong face and patience in every phase of difficulty, it is unobvious for others to understand that yes, even I need a guidance, help me! 2

12 Messed Up... By Choice And getting married is not the solution to all the issues of a girl s existence. Move on people! Get a life. If anyone attempts to draw a mind map of how I see things, it would be like: Everything is messed up here, yet I love this. This keeps my mind always active, alert and creatively organized! W 3

13 Nikita Arrange Marriage? Conditions Apply! Checklist 1. My ambition is to make an incredible contribution to the education industry. To be precise, rural area s elementary education is my concern. And this is my priority right now and will always remain! 2. The guy should show a bit if interest in dancing. He should know Garba at least. He should love the spirit of Navratri. I want to learn ballroom dance and salsa dance. But the only pratigya is that I would learn both these partner dance forms with my lifetime partner. Hope I find one someday! 3. I wish to be a wander girl and explore each and every nook of India, from Ladakh to Rishikesh to Shillong to Puducherry to Coorg to Panchgani to Jaisalmer to Manali. If I get a chance to travel alone, I would seize it without a blink. Of course, I would bring artifacts, home decor products, and gifts for him too. Plus all the gupp shupps. 2 4

14 Messed Up... By Choice 4. I really want to see what an adventure trip looks like. If we plan any short/long vacation, it should have one or two or three or more adventurous activities. This type of a vacation includes our honeymoon too. 5. I love to smile and laugh. BTW, who doesn t love that? During post graduation, my juniors gave me a zordaar nickname, generator because I laugh aloud, for a long time and then slowly descending the volume and if I remember the same joke any other time, I can once again laugh at it. For this, I want a guy who is witty and can find humour even in the little things. Please mind it that being serious is a completely different genre than being humorous. Both of these genres are not opposite to each other and can go parallel. Getting both things together in a package could be acknowledged as a bonanza. 6. I don t want to have babies. There are three reasons: I want to share my love and care with the number of children rather than just one or two. There are so many children in the world who do not have family support. Rather than increasing population, it s better to give a beautiful life to existing ones. In this way, I can play my part to serve humanity. I have n number of defects in my DNA, all thanks to my manufacturers. And I am really not interested in passing on my defects to my next generation as genetic heritage and 5

15 Nikita making them suffer for no reason. This needs to be stopped somewhere, and I would like to initiate that. That being said, I know it has to be a mutual decision. So, I have told my stance clear. What's more? If I have understood basic palmistry rightly, I can t see any child s line on my palms. See, even stars support me in this decision. 7. Follow the philosophy - Live and let live. Give me a free hand in whatever I am doing. I am a responsible citizen of the society. And I believe in Karmas and Ethics - they are the mirrors of life. Whatever I shall do, would be for the welfare of everyone, at least in my opinion. 8. Trust me blindly. Because it s my natural tendency to trust people with whom I had/have spent my life. Fundamentally, things need to be reciprocated. 9. At any moment, the guy should not ask me how many branded handbags do I possess. I like handbags of Baggit only. These bags have lots of compartments that allow me to keep all my stuff in an organized way and also, I can associate my identity with them as they present a professional yet stylish look. 10. If the guy studies me well, he would understand that I am a combination of a really sweet and don t mess with me. I have disciplined as well as unstructured personality. Maybe from outside I seem to be chaotic and in a mess, I create organised structures in my mind. I love things to 6

17 Nikita A Dream (That I Never Saw) Came True Year 2004, studying in standard 11 th. This phase of schooling is the best - a completely new face of education system - and from my perspective, the first responsibility towards the preparation of our future, a fatal decision to make. I opted for Science stream - reasons: 1) I did not want to go Commerce stream. It contains only numbers. And in my community, the ultimate career destination with this stream is being a Charter Accountant (CA). With all due respect to worldwide CAs, I find CA course boring - designation title wise as well as career wise. 2) Our school had only two options: Science and Commerce; and no Arts or something else. Thus, basically I had no option but to choose Science. Life becomes easier when you hate few things, as the selection process becomes less tricky and less time consuming. 3) Luckily, my cool school gang also adopted for Science stream. Great! We still had two more years to be with each other. 8 3

18 Messed Up... By Choice 4) My choice of the stream had no connection with my future as I wanted to become a fashion designer. But what it has got to do with the chapter title? Nothing! Just goofing around the bush. Each year, our school conducted a tour during the Diwali break. That year, our seniors wished to go on North India expedition. Since it was their last year in the school, our Principal sir agreed to their wishes, putting one condition. Our seniors had to convince at least ten more students for the tour. Okay, not a big deal. Out of 500 students, it s not difficult to grab ten more pupils, Appu, my senior, thought. The reality is harsher than thoughts. It took them two weeks to persuade other students to join in the Tour to Shimla. I had been to North India twice before this and still, didn t have enough of it. Definitely, the decision was to join the trip. These seniors had a great bonding among themselves, great enthusiasm and all of them were sports personality. And they were my favourite people. More than friends, I looked upon them; I was genuinely influenced by them. Appu was the one who introduced me to sports. Akhi, Vini, Misha, Appu (all my seniors) and I were on the school s basketball team. They are humorous and fantastic people. The trip duration was 20 th Oct - 30 th Oct 20XX. Great! This time, I would celebrate my birthday out of my hometown, but where? We received the itinerary mentioning details regarding dates, place, hotel details, etc. I skimmed through the page. Ahh! Here it is, moving from Dharamsala to... to... 9

19 Nikita to... the mystery is about to divulge O wow! It s Manali. Manali is my favourite place, my first love. My God, I don t believe it. This is just amazing. I would be celebrating my birthday at my favourite place with my favourite people. God has been so great to me. Thank you, thank you, and thank you. That s the bestest gift one can ever get, I said to myself excitedly. That was the first time, till I remember, I had cut my birthday cake and received a lot of gifts starting from a wish on the bathroom mirror to a bouquet of wild flowers, to a decorative vase and a collective gift from the squad. I never knew I was so special! Thanks to everyone. This was in 2004 and the memories are still so fresh. W 10
