3 One Path, Many Experiences: A Labyrinth Workshop Walking a labyrinth quiets the mind and reduces stress. Join us for either or both of these workshops where we ll learn the difference between a labyrinth and a maze, experience the labyrinth first hand, and share our experiences on the labyrinth. October: Informative and experiential workshop. Hear about the history of the labyrinth, which spans 4,000 years, and then walk an indoor canvas labyrinth. December: Experiential workshop. We will use labyrinth inspiration cards to guide our walks on both a hand-held labyrinth and an indoor canvas labyrinth. Please bring socks to wear to protect the canvas labyrinth. 4 Holiday Card Making: Intergenerational Creative Workshop Do you have trouble finding holiday cards that reflect your beliefs and sentiments? Come and learn how to make your own mixed-media greeting cards just in time for the holidays. Each participant will receive all the materials and instructions needed to create a collection of four - six greeting cards. Card blanks, envelopes, colorful paper, embellishments, ideas, and more will be provided. There is no fee for this workshop; adults and children ages eight and over are welcome. Toxic stress can wreak havoc on the brains and bodies of children, putting them at a greater risk for disease, homelessness, prison time, and early death. Resilience chronicles the movement that is fighting back. Cressy Goodwin of UUS:E reflects on his experiences with his wife Jeanne, who was in home hospice care a year ago. Drawing on several resources, we will consider strategies to better understand what people in crisis are experiencing, how family members can work together to foster acceptance and reduce conflict, and how each of us can better communicate our compassion. 6 Becoming a Sanctuary Congregation Refugees and undocumented immigrants in the U.S. are facing new threats. As Unitarian Universalists, how do we gain better insight into the plight of these people, how should we view the current situation in light of our UU Principles, and what are the options for UUS:E and its members to get involved? In Session 1, we ll examine the plight of the immigrants and refugees, the issues they face, and the history of the Sanctuary Congregation Movement. In Session 2, we ll discuss the current movement and how UUS:E and its members can help. Hosted by the Social Justice Anti- Oppression Committee s Sanctuary Congregation Team. Josh Pawelek, revpawelek@sbcglobal.net Online Small Group Ministry The dual purposes of Small Group Ministry are intimacy and ultimacy: getting to know the group members at a deeper level and discussing questions of spiritual growth. Meeting once a month, each group is made up of five to ten people, one of whom is a designated leader. Meetings are two hours long, including opening and closing words, check-in, and a discussion of a topic of the group s choice. Additional groups can be formed as needed. Rev.
