Throughout the week we will develop as actors by learning a script, playing theatre games and doing acting exercises. On Friday evening at 7 p.m. we will present our final performance complete with costumes, props, makeup and scenery for our family and friends! We'll build star fighters out of LEGO bricks, stage an intergalactic battle and make a Darth Vader bobble head. We'll even make our own lightsaber. We'll work with LEGO bricks, paint, clay and other art supplies to create these materpieces that your young Jedi will love! 13 Summer Activities Sponsored by New Hope Parks & Recreation Pee Wee Soccer This program is an introduction to soccer for active youth ages 5 and 6. Boys and girls will learn basic skills, rules, and sportsmanship while having fun with other youth their age. Course A: Tuesdays, June 28-July 26 Time: 6:30-7:15 p.m. Location: Liberty Park th Ave N, New Hope Fee: $34 New Hope residents $41 Nonresidents All Stars Soccer This class is designed to enhance some of the basic soccer skills, including dribbling, passing and shooting. Participants ages 7 and 8 will have the opportunity to play in mini games while having fun in a semi-competitive environment. Emphasis will be placed on sportsmanship. Course A: Tuesdays, June 28-July 26 Time: 7:15-8 p.m. Location: Liberty Park th Ave N, New Hope Fee: $34 New Hope residents $41 Nonresidents Skating School New Hope Skating School classes are based on the Ice Skating Institute's (ISI) Recreational Ice Skating Program for ice skaters ages 3 and older. Classes are taught by Dawn Landon Boice and her fine staff. Participants will need skates with guards. Rental skates are available. Helmets suggested for beginners. Alpha: Passed Beginner or equivalent. Students learn forward stroking, forward crossovers on right and left, and one foot snowplow stop. Archery Youth ages 8-14 will learn range safety and proper shooting techniques for compound and traditional bows. This class is designed to offer individualized instruction based on skill level. We'll also learn some of the traditions and history surrounding archery. All equipment is provided. Course A: Fridays, June 10-July 1 Course B: Fridays, July 8-29 Time: 9-11 a.m. Location: Robbinsdale Community Gyms, Door Toledo Ave N Fee: $76 Residents of New Hope, Crystal, Golden Valley, and Robbinsdale $83 Nonresidents Flag Football Ages 6-8 Participants will learn the skills and rules of the game and also play very low-key games. This program will focus on individual player development. No special equipment needed. This program is run by Revolutionary Sports Staff. Dates: Sundays, July 24-August 28 Course: B1 4:15-5:15 p.m. Location: Robbinsdale Middle School, 3730 Toledo Ave N Fee: $60 Residents of New Hope, Crystal, Golden Valley, Robbinsdale and St. Louis Park $67 Nonresidents Grades 2-3 (fall 2016) This instructional and league program will include scheduled practices and games. Teams will practice on Thursdays and play games on Sunday afternoons (times may alternate between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.) Games may be played at other locations. A complete schedule will be distributed. Our quality gymnastics staff will provide their expertise to help participants achieve better physical fitness, coordination, and gymnastics skills--all while having a great time! Advanced: For those who have mastered straddle over (vault); Long hang pullover (bars); Forward roll, front handspring dismount (beam); Back walkover (floor). Fencing Youth ages 6-12 will learn real foil fencing skills in these programs provided by MN Sword Play. Learn guard fencing positioning and how to advance and retreat. Individual and group instruction will be offered. The emphasis will be on skill building, concentration, self-discipline, and fun! All equipment is provided.
