6 About The Author p The author of this book is a Post Graduate in English subject and has a specialization degree as Bachelors in Education along with Diploma in Hearing Language and Speech. This is a professional degree as a One year course in speech therapy for the individuals who have speaking and conversation problems either by birth or have developed the same during developing years. The author has an experience of 4 years in treating children and adults with stammering, misarticulation, delayed speech and language along with people who can't hear and have cochlear implant. This practice has provided the author an insight about the experiences, problems and issues of such people which in turn has inspired her to deal life enthusiastically and optimistically even with challenges. Along with speech therapy practice, the author has been working as a teacher in v

7 primary school, which has enhanced her understanding about the children s behavior, learning and performances. This knowledge of the author is enhanced by the foundation of child development study been undertaken in Lady Irwin College, Delhi University in her graduation years. All these qualifications and practices have generated the author s interest in accomplishing her tasks creatively with variant approaches towards any kind of problem solving issues. She is a staunch supporter of a philosophy saying that learning is a continuous process in life and she has tried to imbibe this philosophy in all her writings including this book. Through this book she anticipates that all the readers will be inspired from her thoughts and will also deal life with great enthusiasm and zeal as she has been practicing. 8 About The Book p The book is about a journey of a girl.how she undergoes transformation at each stage of her life? How she tackles her problems and comes out to be a winner? Why being a girl is a blessing in disguise? Are some of the many issues that are discussed in this book. The whole book is divided into 9 units. Unit-1 consists of 3 chapters in which I have tried to put forward the ways in which a girl looks at life, what s her point of view. Unit-2 has 2 chapters when she is thinking about her strengths - just before getting married. Unit-3 consists of again 1 chapter when she s becoming a mother. It includes her joys, her pains and her various emotional expressions. Unit-4 consists of 3 chapters which portrays the expressions of her li l baby in various situations and her reactions to them. vii

9 Unit-5 consists of 1 chapter which shows her child entering adulthood and the varying levels of maturity at both ends. Unit-6 consists of 4 chapters which try to express the conflicting situations between the parent and a child. And how in a precise and friendly manner those issues can be settled and agreed upon. The set of instructions that can be very fruitful for a balanced relationship. Unit -7 consists of a chapter when the child is old enough to be bonded in a nuptial knot. The proud mother is now quite satisfied with her gratifying journey and is just interested in enjoying the moment. The load of responsibilities and the level of maturity is again reflected upon. Unit-8 consists of a chapter where the arrival of grandchild makes the occasion very auspicious as well as once again the thrill, the excitement enters in the lives of people. How the woman is experiencing and welcoming this new emotion. Her perception about herself, towards her new life is the focus of this unit. Unit-9 shows the woman in a relaxed and contended frame of mind. She has witnessed viii

10 so many emotions, so many circumstances and various transformations- From a Daughter - wife - mother - grandmother. From a Girl - woman (who matured gradually) And at each stage, she had done various adjustments so as to make her both families happy and prosperous. Thus, proved herself to be a super woman in certain situations. Incidentally, she now has no unfulfilled desires and is ready to meet God, if it happens, with peace. Hats off to the woman. 18 Foreword p A MYSTICAL MAJESTY- The Woman is a very praise worthy effort by a woman of substance. It becomes more authentic because the author talks about the phases she personally faced and witnessed happening with the elderly women of her family. She beautifully starts the journey of a woman from the time when the warmth of her innocent heart can easily be felt, when she is at her chirpiest best. She takes us through the time when the immature lovely demands and desires are occupying her mind. She is about to start a new journey towards her higher studies. Ruchika nicely depicts that her sweet mind and blissful heart gets a jerk of practicality, as soon as she moves further into her river of struggles, in her life - This has changed her from a school girl to a career oriented woman. The life, which seemed initially, very easy to her, is now a bag of surprises. She thought herself to be quite strong but in the process xvii

19 she has realized that she needs to develop more strength and stamina. She makes a very profound statement when she says that now she has to face the hypocrisy, the rivalry, the unnecessary conflicts and even the political buttering. The author nicely tells us about the importance of taking out time for introspection and contemplation. She tells us, This is the time, when we are really we, the human being surviving, living, breathing and inside the human being, the masculine and the feminine part, the Venus and Mars of the universe, the Yin and Yang - And so, this time is very crucial, but is generally lost in our daily chores. She nicely says that once this sought after space is acquired, the possibility of finding our true-self increases which in turn increases the probability of getting happiness, the eternal truth. It is heartening to know that through this book, the author is trying to figure out the possibilities and the circumstances that can make a woman, a woman of substance, stronger and more mature. The use of expressions like, our exaggerated challenges, our staggered emotions make the reading very interesting xviii

20 and thought provoking. Ruchika has surely tried her best to cover most of the significant issues in a woman s life with purity and honesty. She tells us about the tremendous efforts put up by the female of the house to bind the family and the members in a single thread. Her gentle reminder to the society, let s not disrespect her or insult her but respect her, educate her, love her and you will get the well-deserved salutations and the honours from her every time and everywhere is appreciable. She is peeping inside the space of a girl, to feel the tenderness, the warmth, the affection, the charm, the stamina and the persona of a female. What are the various stages of her transformation? I have seen her, read about her and discussed about her with so many people. Her speeches, I am sure are motivating to generations. 22 Kiran Bedi Speech on Woman, Parenting at Pondicherry Engineering College: The crowd at the Pondicherry Engineering College auditorium came alive when the lady in white came up to the dais to speak. Kiran Bedi, India's first woman IPS officer and winner of the Raman Magsaysay award captivated the audience with her speech on the "woman". Addressing a large crowd of Rotarians, Ms. Bedi spoke to them as she would to parents, responsible for shaping India's future generations. She said it was important to catch children young and xxi

23 mould them into happy, outstanding, confident and generous human beings. "In India, in most houses, the moment a daughter is born, parents imagine whom she would marry, how she would look in her wedding dress and so on... which is why all our brides are very beautiful on their wedding days. Instead, parents must have a dream for their daughters, a dream that would take them to great heights. Children tend to take your dreams and make them theirs. Very rarely do children's dreams become their parent's dreams," said Ms. Bedi. She said her parents had high aspirations for her. "I used to play tennis and my hair used to get all wet with the sweat and it was difficult shampooing and maintaining it. My parents suggested I cut it off. The barber right across my tennis ground didn't have a stylist for women and so he gave me a boy cut, which is the reason for my short hair. I used to travel all over the country playing tennis. I would travel alone on long distance trains. But my parents didn't come along or send a servant. Instead, they dressed me in lose fitting clothes and no jewellery... so much so that I looked like a xxii

24 boy. You must give your children a sense of security and not just jewellery. Every school and parent must urge their girl children to play games so that they will realize their strength," she said. She suggested that the Rotarians join forces with the Puducherry police to help in community development projects. Time for family: It's only on Sundays that Ms. Bedi gets to spend time with her family. "I work throughout the week and Sunday is the only day when I have time for my family. That's also the time when I do my writing." Chhaya Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police, said the police required assistance in training young girls and schoolchildren in the art of self-defence. 28 A Mystical Majesty- The Woman Introduction 1 p Amidst the beacons of life, i. e., in between the chaos surrounding us, sometimes, we can feel, we can get time to feel, to feel our feelings, or emotions, our exaggerated challenges, our staggered emotions. This is the time, when we are really we, the human being surviving, living, breathing and inside the human being, the masculine and the feminine part, the Venus and Mars of the universe, the Yin and Yang-And so, this time is very crucial, but is generally lost in our daily chores, which is embedded deep inside us only. It comes to the surface, when the particular moment comes, the moment of happiness, the moment of loss, the moment of sadness, the moment of achievement, the moment that is ours only. Only we can feel that moment, no interference, no inhibitions, no constraint, no boundaries, only our personal space. 3

29 A Mystical Majesty- The Woman Space, essentially is never conquered, it s always acquired, with the consciousness of the thought that emerges inside the individual only. And once this sought after space is acquired, the possibility of finding our true self increases which in turn increases the probability of getting happiness-the eternal truth, which everybody requires. From this book, I am trying to figure out the possibilities and the circumstances that can make a woman, a woman of substance, stronger and more mature. On the contrary, the same possibilities and circumstances can prove to be a curse for a pessimistic woman. I am peeping inside the space of a girl, to feel the tenderness, the warmth, the affection, the charm, the stamina and the persona of a female. What are the various stages of her transformation? Does she enjoy her changes, does she get carried away, or is she scared? The list is endless. But I am trying to concentrate, trying to view the life of the world through her eyes. How successfully? I don t know. But yes, surely, to some extent as I had also faced some of these phases. And had actually witnessed the 4

32 A Mystical Majesty- The Woman Bye, bye school 2 p Literally as well as practically, the school life is the most innocent phase of one s life. In one sweet and innocent gesture, we can get anything. If still, the demands are not met, just cry a little, or, just do emotional blackmailing and if it doesn t work either, then cajoling will be able to fetch you your desired demand. Awesome. Amazing. This phase passes and the memories are deeply inscribed inside, not to be forgotten, anytime. I swear, it s the truth. And bidding farewell to the loved ones-the friends, the teachers as well as the staff, is a big task, indeed. Mind it. And for girls, who are said to be more emotional suffer more, obviously. Every girl at one point feels this jolt, which can t be expressed in words 7

33 A Mystical Majesty- The Woman afterwards as it is very memorable. Everything seems bright, green and lively from one end of the river of life. The tears rolling down the cheeks, the smiles fading away, and those colourful shirts on which the friends and the foes write something is worth a memoir, to be preserved forever. Isn t it? Whenever, I am feeling low, today also, I just glance at that shirt, and the smile returns to my face. It is a spontaneous reaction. Indeed a difficult task to leave school but an air of refreshment is also there in our minds. The air of entering the new worldvery different from the old one, about which you are not having enough knowledge and eventually you ll become a part of it sooneris really exciting. Similarly, our little girl is feeling awesome. She is a little insecure and she is blossoming intensely. After all, her hard work and labour paid off well, i. e. why she is now out of the school. At last. Phew! No daily routines, no enforcement, no repetitive studies, again and again. She is ready to 8

34 A Mystical Majesty- The Woman enter the whole new world of higher studies. Her dream is about to be fulfilled. The girl, just out of school, is ready to face the world with the coloured goggles, worn by her during her tender years of schooling. This is the stage which comes in everybody s life. The pleasures, the luxuries, the comforts, the sweet friendly deals, the break ups and the subsequent make ups are really memorable. Can one forget that? Am i able to forget that? No, dear, never. My cousin has just cleared her exams. And soon after, without wasting a precious second, she is busy in redoing her wardrobe, her hair style and knowing about the popular places-where she ll hang out with her friends. And just before her last exam, she was looking extremely tired as if she ll sleep for at least some days. On the contrary, after exams, she is looking so fresh and youthful that anybody can make the difference. Shocking, but this is life and she wants to enjoy it. I also did somewhat like that. It s alright. And refreshing! The eyes, the deep shallow eyes with which she is seeing what she wants to see, 9

But as soon as she enters the river of life to move further, to cross it, to taste success, actually, it is then that she can feel the warmth or the coldness of practical life. Right now everything is lovely for her. She is waiting to be swayed in the loveliness of mesmerising beauty of her future. She thinks Love is a splendid charm of everybody Lost in somebody Want to get it back Win it, don t snatch it. Life is a lovely present of The creator-the God. Don t lose it in the bin of nobody Have mercy, not on you but On the creation of somebody.
