History, Structure and Demographics: Early Beginnings: Ranui Pacific Islanders Presbyterian Church (Ranui PIPC) is a Samoan Presbyterian Church based in West Auckland, specifically the suburb of Ranui which is under the Henderson-Massey Local Board area. Ranui PIPC is located at 35 Armada Drive, Ranui Auckland. Ranui Pacific Islanders Presbyterian Church, 35 Armada Drive, Ranui, Auckland 1
2 The original parish first started in 1969, when a group of Samoan Presbyterian famiies that started at Tirimoana Primary School in Te Atatu South approached Reverend Leauatea Sio with the idea of having a service catering particularly to the Samoan people, and asking Reverend Sio to assist them in finding a Samoan minister to lead their ethnic-specific worship service. These families were told to evangelise to add more to the church to be able to sustain and maintain it s survivability. These families managed to evangelize and add many souls to the church as commissioned by Christ and encouraged by Reverend Sio. The names of the founding families were: Epa Auimatagi, Finai and Lisa Tagaloa, Kilisi and Malaga O Brien, Vaomalo and Saini Kini, Fualaau and Avei Cowley, Ausai and Neta Tonumaivao. Move to St Giles Union Parish: In the same year, this group of families moved to the St Giles Union Parish (Methodist/Presbyterian) premises to continue their fellowship and worship. The St Giles Union Parish was under the leadership of Reverend Bill Milward. Reverend Leauatea Sio brought forth Reverend Setu Solomona to be the minister for the Samoan speaking group. Reverend Leauatea Sio, Reverend Setu Solomona and Reverend Milward worked closely together in the nurturing and caring of this Samoan speaking group. This group remained to be called the Samoa Te Atatu South PIC. In 1983, Reverend Pelu Tuai was called to be the minister for the Samoan speaking group. He remained in this ministerial role until he retired in 18 December Establishing Ranui Pacific Island Presbyterian Church: In 1991, through the tenacity, persistence and hard work of the founding members of the parish under the leadership of Reverend Elder Pelu Tuai and Funaki Tuai, a mutual agreement was reached with the English speaking members of St Giles that they would transition away from St Giles to establish a Samoan specific church and ministry under the Presbyterian movement. To this end, the Samoan speaking group relocated to the suburb of Ranui when the Church Property Trustees of the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa NZ (PCANZ) offered a vacant piece of land owned by the PCANZ to the Samoan parish to build new facilities for a place of worship at 35 Armada Drive, Ranui. In 1993, the newly built church building, hall and carparks were officially opened and the parish officially renamed Ranui PIPC (also known as Ranui Samoan Presbyterian Church). From 1993 to 2017, the parish has continued its ministry under PCANZ, the Pacific Island Synod, Fono Samoa and Matagaluega i Sisifo structures. The majority of mission and ministry activities are conducted in Samoan with English to complement the activities as and when appropriate (e.g. English Sermon, Tupulaga activities and communications). Ministers who have been a part of this parish ministry were: Reverend Leauatea Sio, Reverend Bill Milward, Reverend Setu Solomona, Reverend Leao Si itia, Reverend Talagi Talagi, Rev Liu Tepou and Reverend Pelu Tuai. Session Clerks who have been a part of this ministry were: Epa Auimatagi, Vaomalo Kini, Tuilaepa Ropisone, Muliaga Lapi, Legaoi Lene, and currently Folasa Sio.
