There are many reasons to take a workshop. They are a concentrated block of time that can make learning easier. Some things are better to learn removed from your regular life or need more time than a two hour class can allow like focus 27 at the Dying and Living program. Workshops can also give you the time to practice repeatedly right after you learn a new tool or skill. Just like if you Yoga is all about daily practice. That is the only way to grow and learn your practice. That said Serge has workshops to help you learn what you need to practice every day. Yoga is Breath, Postures and Mantras as you learn these three as well as the Spiritual teachings of Yoga you blend them to create you practice. The Yoga Schedule: 11 steps Yoga Level 1Wednesday Jan 19 meet someone new and you right away say their name 3 times you are more likely to remember it, if you immediately practice a tool after learning it you are more likely to remember that tool and how to use it properly. You can take many workshops for many different reasons. 2 The Beam of Light Page 2 of 8 Opening Your Heart Compassion is magic. What is opening your heart? Opening Your Heart is a workshop offered at the Aromansse Riverton Retreat centre. Alex facilitates it and I can assure you the food will be excellent. You need Opening the Heart to proceed with meditation after level 4 and it is an excellent introduction to meditation. Opening Your Heart uses Hemi Sync meditations: 1) Centre Calm, an introduction to a deep level of relaxation 2) Remembering Love, connects to pure love energy 3) Power to Heal, heal your deep emotional wounds 4) Opening to Love, an exploration about love This describes a bit of Opening Your Heart but not what it is. Opening Your Heart is about love. Your preconceived notions need to be left in Winnipeg so you can be open to exploring love, compassion, infatuation, envy, jealousy and your personal relationships. The meditations will allow you to heal old hurts and explore ways to heal yourself and your emotions. As you learn to love without ties or conditions and heal the injuries from the past you slowly will realize how many great things there are to learn still lie ahead. Opening Your Heart is not about your daily life it is about transforming your life into what you want it to be. Taking the first steps to realizing that you are the only one who controls your life. As you go through the process of opening yourself to love without ties you will find yourself beginning to explore compassion. There are many ways to look at compassion and a lot has been written by both religious scholars and by those not affiliated with any one faith. While Opening Your Heart will focus on Compassion you may want to read and research the subject yourself before or after completing the workshop. Some Thoughts to start with: ALBERT EINSTEIN: A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. BARACK OBAMA: You know, there's a lot of talk in this country about the federal deficit. But I think we should talk more about our empathy deficit - - the ability to put ourselves in someone else's shoes; to see the world through the eyes of those who are different from us - - the child who's hungry, the steelworker who's been laid-off, the family who lost the entire life they built together when the storm came to town. When you think like this -- when you choose to broaden your ambit of concern and empathize with the plight of others, whether they are close friends or distant strangers -- it becomes harder not to act; harder not to help. The Buddha: Compassion is that which makes the heart of the good move at the pain of others. It crushes and destroys the pain of others. - The Buddha Alex Chaligne: Love doesnʼt exist, love is not magic. Love is an addiction, all humans have it. Love is a hormone a peptide. You need more Love each time to feel it. Compassion is totally different, compassion is magic. 3 Page 3 of 8 The Beam of Light Reflexology and Cold Laser Therapy Cold Laser Therapy is non-thermal, non-invasive, painless, safe and very effective in stimulating the bodyʼs natural healing process. Cold laser therapy increases serotonin levels to assist the body to heal. It uses light energy and vibration frequencies to quickly help to activate the bodyʼs innate cellular communication system, support positive immune, enzyme and endorphin responses and rejuvenate the cells of the body. Padahastasana (Foot to Hand posture) To begin stand with legs For the same pose with more of a challenge as you breath bend forward bed. Relax completely into the poses. as much as half a foot as you grab your elbows Use a timer or count your apart, as in behind your back. Stay breaths. Padangushthasana into the pose for 3 to 5 Exhale as you place palms under the feet and, Inhale back straight lift your head up. Then minutes. Breathe in through the nose deeply, out through the mouth. Benefits: purifies the anal canal;, kidneys, and lower abdomen exhale and bring your head toward your knees Practice daily for 5 breaths minimum Best if done first thing in through your nose. the morning or just before Stomach inside. Recipe of the Month Come to the dark side we have cookies. Bruschetta Ingredients: 6 or 7 ripe plum tomatoes (about 1 1/2 lbs) chooped 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar 6-8 fresh basil leaves, chopped 2 drops Thyme essential oil Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste 1. Baguette French bread 1/4 cup olive oil Directions: Oven to 300 f Preheat In a bowl mix the tomatoes, garlic, oil, vinegar, basil, essential oil and salt and pepper. Let sit in the fridge for at least an hour. Slice the baguette and brush with the remaining oil. Put the tomato mix on top of the bread. Place on a cookie sheet and bake until warm. Before serving sprinkle a thin layer of grated parmesan cheese on the top of the bruschetta. Tune in next full moon for essential oil laundry tips from the laundry fairy.

5 Page 5 of 8 The Beam of Light Since Yoga is all about daily practice there are things you can do to enhance your yoga practice. 1) Candles- Low smoke candles give off a soft light and can feel very relaxing as you enter your practice. If you find a scented candle that you really enjoy the smell can also add to the atmosphere you create for yourself when you are on your mat. You can also place your candle where you can focus on Enhancing your Yoga practice it in balance poses. 2) Incense- again the smell can be very relaxing when you find one you enjoy. 3) Music Soft music can increase your focus by helping your mind enter into a sacred place. 4) Posters or crystals or other decoration- by decorating or creating a special space where you spend time on your mat it will make your daily practice separate from all the hectic of daily life. 5) A Binder or folder and a Journal- by keeping all your notes and information together you can easily follow what you have learned so you can add those teachings to your practice. 6) Time- take the time to practice. Daily practice can and will change everything. Yoga is 99% practice and 1% theory. Breath and Sacred Sound Without breath you cannot live. It is truth and a focus on breath is a big part of Yoga and also many Martial arts as well as Bio Energy work. Thai Chi and Karate both match movements to inhalation and exhalation just as yoga does. But in Yoga breathing is also practiced while not doing Asanas (poses) but just sitting on your mat focused on your breath. This is more like a meditative focus on breath rather than the strong physical practice that goes with your regular Asana practice. The Breathing workshop will take you through many breathing exercises as well as the theory and benefits you get from each exercise. While this is not a strong physical practice it is in no way easy. The breathing exercises will help you but like Yoga they need to be practiced regularly. As well as breathing the workshop also covers Mantras another important piece of a complete Yoga practice. Mantras help you to clear your thoughts, set your intention and to focus as well as introduce you to self- awakening and opening yourself to transformation as you practice them while building your time on the mat. Clothes you would wear for two days, a sweater (it can be windy), a water bottle, PJ s (you will share a room), your Journal, a pen and any cosmetics or personal products you may want. If attending a Bio Energy weekend bring any handouts you have gotten from other Bio Energy classes or workshops. Who will be there? Alex, Eric and between 8 and 10 other students. The surprise is part of the fun. What workshops are Mandatory? Chakars, Opening the Heart, Dying and Living, Reunion 35 and Timeline. But they are all very good and worth exploring when you have a chance. Why Riverton? It is peaceful, free from distractions and daily life. By being away you can focus on only what you are learning. As an added bonus you have some great me time. Can I arrive Early? Yes it is $10.00 to arrive on the Friday night.
