7 Vol. 120 No. 2 6/4/72 By DR. M. DOREAL (Part One) Man, of today, knows little about the great races of prehistoric times. That they possessed knowledge of science unknown today cannot be questioned. For the evidence remains in their architecture, art, and in legends and myths handed down for hundreds and even thousands of generations Scientific men of today consider that our civilization is the greatest that has ever existed, ignoring the monumental evidences of a past great culture and civilization which are scattered over the face of the known world. Such evidences as the great pyramid of Egypt, the images on Easter Island, the ruins on the Caroline Islands, the mathematical and architectual wonders of the Mayas, the pyramids of Mexico, as well as the evidence contained in such great epics of literature as the Vedic poems are indisputable evidence of a knowledge far superior to that:generally accredited to ancient man. -1

8 Man of today looks upon such great examples of modern art such as the Statue of Liberty in New York harbor and marvel at its immense size. In comparison with certain statues found in Bamiam in CentralAsia,it is by no means a monumental work. The largest of the five statues at Bamiam is 173 feet high, sixty eight feet taller than the Statue of Liberty, which is only one hundred and five feet high. There is a legend which is universal that the world was once inhabited by a race of giants, which varied in size from twelve to forty or fifty feet in height. A great deal of evidence as to the truth of these legends is found in the proven facts that certain great masses of stone, weighing millions of pounds, are known which have been transported from thousands of miles away. Certain vast masses of stone are found in the British Islands which have no relation to any of the geological formation of the country, the only other place such stone being found is in Africa. Of peculiar significance are the local legends that in the ancient days these stones were brought "by a sorcerer from Africa." It is an accepted fact that the gods of most of the Ancient races were leaders and kings of the far past whose powers and deeds came down obscured by the mists of time until the fact of their - 2-

9 being men was forgotten, and because of their powers and wisdom, far superior to that of those who came after, they were looked upon by these later races as gods. It is considered by most occultists that the gods of Greece were originally kings and rulers of Atlantis. It is also considered that the gods of Egypt were once human beings, who, because of their powers and wisdom, were deified by their descendants who came thousands of years afterwards. Each of the ancient Gods had beside the open and outward worship, an inner secret worship, to which none were ad-, mitted except those who had been prepared by initiation. This secret worship was termed the Mysteries. Probably the first of which we have any account are those of Isis and Osiris in Egypt; for although the Mithric mysteries came into Europe from Persia, they were supposedly carried from Egypt to Persia by Zoroaster. The most important of these mysteries were the Osiric in Egypt, the Mithraic in Persia, the Cabriac in Thrace, the Adonisian in Syria, the Dionysiac and Eleusinian in Greece, the Scandinavian among the Gothic nations and the Druidical among the Celts. 3-

10 In all of these we find evidences of a common origin, and this origin was not in the theology of the Fagan races among which they were found. The ceremonies of initiation were all funeral in character. They celebrated the death and resurrection of some being, or God. Most of the initiations into the mysteries took place in eaves,or dark vaults,or deep forests, and was only completed when the candidate for admission had been purified in darkness and led into the Light of Wisdom. They were taught religious, physical and historical knowledge under the veil of symbols,and were taught how to interpret these symbols. It was only by carefully guarding these secrets that they were able to preserve them from the superstitions and corruptions of the world, as it then existed. The few who were allowed to penetrate into the inner sanctuary of the Mystery Temples, preserved and passed on to their successors the secrets of the elder world. They kept at a distance the ignorant scoffer who would only have defiled the lamp of Truth. Warburton says: "The mysteries were at first the retreats of sense and virtue, till time corrupted them in most of the Gods. (To be continued) -4 -

Everyone reports a happy time even though we have had cool weather with quite a few rain showers. There will be a special volunteer work project on the new Temple June 11, Everyone who wishes to help on the finishing of the Temple is especially invited to come and lend a helping hand. The time is ten o'clock Sunday morning lasting throughout the day. Each person or family may bring c. picnic lunch or whatever foods they wish to bring. Coffee will be served by members of the Shambolic Board. The picnic lunches will be spread together and shared by all. Also, please bring your working tools, such as hammers, saws, etc. By cooperation and work, our beautiful Temple can be finished this Summer.
