4 Writing Activities 1. Write a description of the Parsee carnival in Bombay from Passepartout s point of view. 2. Produce an advertisement for a travel company for the journey from Bombay to Kholby. Remember to use persuasive and descriptive language. 3. Write the conversation between Fix and the director of the Bombay police as a play script. Remember to include stage directions. 4. Imagine that you are travelling round the world and have only a day to spend in Bombay. Research the city and produce an itinerary for your day. Give reasons for your choice of activities. 5 Group Work 1. Complete quiz Share your research topic. 3. Discussion: Fix says about Passepartout, besides, he s a Frenchman, and can t help talking. What do we call statements which generalise about a group of people? Is it right? Does it make a difference that the author was French? Do you agree that French people can t help talking? 4. Discussion: There is a saying, Actions speak louder than words. Are there any examples of this in these chapters? What do these actions say about the characters? 5. This book is being turned into a radio play. Produce the scene where Phileas Fogg buys the elephant. You could record this and add sound effects. 6. Watch Michael Palin s Around the World in 80 Days Episodes 2 and 3 and note any differences in the route.
