Isaiah 53:11b TODAY S READINGS First Reading My servant shall justify many, and their guilt he shall bear (Isaiah 53:10-11). Psalm Lord, let your mercy be on us, as we place our trust in you (Psalm 33). Second Reading Let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and to find grace for timely help (Hebrews 4:14-16). Gospel Whoever wishes to be first among you will be the slave of all (Mark 10:35-45 [42-45]). READINGS FOR THE WEEK Monday: Eph 2:1-10; Ps 100:1b-5; Lk 12:13-21 Tuesday: Eph 2:12-22; Ps 85:9ab-14; Lk 12:35-38 Wednesday: Eph 3:2-12; Is 12:2-3, 4bcd-6; Lk 12:39-48 Thursday: Eph 3:14-21; Ps 33:1-2, 4-5, 11-12, 18-19; Lk 12:49-53 Friday: Eph 4:1-6; Ps 24:1-4ab, 5-6; Lk 12:54-59 Saturday: Eph 4:7-16; Ps 122:1-5; Lk 13:1-9 Sunday: Jer 31:7-9; Ps 126:1-6; Heb 5:1-6; Mk 10:46-52 SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES Sunday: Twenty-ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time; World Mission Sunday Monday: St. John Paul II Tuesday: St. John of Capistrano Wednesday: St. Anthony Mary Claret Saturday: Blessed Virgin Mary LECTIO DIVINA Read: The suffering servant of Yahweh will take away our guilt and free us. Thanks to Jesus, the high priest, we can approach the throne of grace and claim mercy. Jesus teaches his disciples the concept of servant leadership, in response to the request for special favors by the Zebedee brothers. Reflect: The other ten disciples were angry at James and John precisely because the latter almost grabbed what the other ten themselves might have loved to have, but never dared to ask special favors and positions in Jesus Kingdom! It took the maternal hart of Jesus to call them all together and teach them how one must learn to put others before self and learn to give rather to grab. From: Fr. FAZtor s Notes by Fr. Arnold Zamora We welcome our Holy Name School Golden Jubilarians this weekend as their Class of 1968 reunites after 50 years since they graduated from grade school. Happy Reunion! Congratulations to the newest married couple in our parish community: Alan Bayer and Melanie Vu. The day after their wedding they came back to the church to thank the Lord of Love. May their home and their life as a married couple always be filled with love. - If you marry the right person, everyday is Valentine's Day. - Marry the wrong person, everyday is Martyrs Day. - Marry a lazy person, everyday is Labor Day. - Marry a rich person everyday is New Year's Day. - Marry an immature person, everyday would seem like Children's Day. - Marry a cheater or liar, everyday will become April Fool's Day. - And if you don't get married, everyday is Independence Day! Marriage is the only school where you get the Certificate before you start. It's also a school where you will never graduate. - It's a school without a break or a free period. - It's a school where no one is allowed to drop out. - It's a school you will have to attend every day of your life. - It's a school where there is no sick leave or holidays. - It's a school founded by God: 1. On the foundation of love. 2. The walls are made out of trust. 3. The door made out of acceptance. 4. The windows made out of understanding. 5. The furniture made out of blessings. 6. The roof made out of faith. Be reminded that you are just a student not the principal. - Your spouse is your one and only classmate - God is the only Principal. - Even in times of storms, don't be unwise and run outside. - Keep in mind that, this school is the safest place to be. - Never go to sleep before completing your assignments for the day. - Never forget the C-word...Communicate. - Communicate with your classmate and with the Principal. - If you find out something in your classmate (spouse) that you do not appreciate, remember your classmate is also just a student not a graduate. God is not finished with him or her yet. So take it as a challenge and work on it together. - Do not forget to study the Holy Book (the main textbook of this school). - Start each day with a sacred assembly and end it the same way. page 3 STEWARDSHIP CORNER CHOOSING OUR PATH God wants us to follow him, but he gives us the freedom to choose what path we will take and whom we will serve. As we stand at the crossroads of life, God continually reaches out to us through his Word. In Jeremiah 6:16 we read, This is what the Lord says: Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. Daily we are at the crossroads of life. The choice we make is our own, but the road we take will have eternal consequences. Will we choose God s way or the ways of the world? With God s help, our answer can be like Joshua s: Joshua s choice was that he and his family would be servants and stewards of the Lord. When you reach crossroads in life, you will hear God s call, Follow Me, but the call to serve yourself and the ways of the world will be loud and boisterous. If you don t reject God s call and you follow, as Jeremiah did, you will turn away from your self-interests and focus on ways to serve the Lord. Your lifestyle will reflect your relationship with him. As followers of Jesus, we acknowledge God s ownership and love. We become stewards of what he entrusts to us. As followers of the Lord, we see others as brothers and sisters in Christ. We live with an eternal perspective. Blessings on your Stewardship Journey! FAZtor s Notes continued. Sometimes you will feel like not attending classes, yet you have to. - When tempted to quit find courage and continue. - Some tests and exams may be tough but remember, the Principal knows how much you can bear and yet it's a school better than any other. It's one of the best schools on earth; joy, peace and happiness accompany each lesson of the day. Different subjects are offered in this school, yet love is the major subject. After all the years of theorizing about it, now you have a chance to practice it. To be loved is a good thing, but to love is the greatest privilege of them all. Marriage is a place of love, so love your spouse.

FAITH FORMATION CATECHESIS PASTORAL OUTREACH Director: Sr. Cristina Ovejera, FdCC crisfdcc2016@yahoo.com (415)664-8590 REFLECTION: The Most Serious Question Would that we can see potential rather than problem in all the baptized. That we would name and nurture the God-given gifts in ourselves and others. It s the very purpose of this month s gathering in Rome (October 3-28), the Synod on Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment. The purpose of this important conversation is to explore how we can lead young people to recognize and accept the call to the fullness of life and love. It is a lofty goal, one that can be realized only if we admit our present vocations crisis. -Mary Stommes October is Rosary and Mission Month Join the group who pray the Rosary daily at 8:30AM in the Pastoral Center chapel. This is mainly for vocations in the Church and for the Pope s missionary intentions. Our Catholic faith is rich in traditional rituals. The Rosary is a traditional prayer to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary. Rosary means garland of roses. It is a garland of prayers to Mary. We repeat the Hail Mary over and over again while we reflect on the mysteries in the life of our Lord Jesus Christ and his mother Mary. This month of October s Rosary is prayed also at 6:30 PM in the chapel. Thanks to Carmen and Domingo Palarca for keeping up this Marian devotion through many years. Knitting and Crochet Group meets every fourth Tuesday of the month, at 11:00 AM-12:30 PM in the meeting room of the Pastoral Center. Thanks very much to those who have made projects that we give to different Centers for women, babies, and those who need warm clothing during this cold season. Our next gathering will be on Oct. 30, 2018. We will begin a new project, prayer shawls. You will need soft yarn for this, and chosen colors are dark or light gray, lavender or rose. Thanks for sharing your time and talents, to be enjoyed by all. Grief and Consolation Committee has already sent invitations for the annual Memorial Mass for deceased Holy Name of Jesus parishioners who passed away this past year. We remind families to ensure your attendance at this Mass. It will be held on the Saturday, November 3, 2018, at 11:00AM in the church. A simple reception will be served in the Flanagan Center, immediately after Mass. Please RSVP to the parish office. Thank you. Building Bridges of Hope is the main theme of this year s Santa Clara Faith Formation Conference. It will be held on Friday, November 29 and Saturday, December 1, 2018, at the Santa Clara Convention Center. For more information, visit www.scffc.org. ERROR-FREE A mistake doesn t become an error until I refuse to correct it. Anonymous page 4 Religious Education Program We still have time for parents to register their children for catechism classes. These are held every Sunday, 10:45 AM-12:00 Noon in the Pastoral Center. We encourage children and youth who need to be baptized, receive first Holy Communion and/or Confirmation. in We have very few children in our Religious Education classes, to date. We understand that your children can not come to register themselves or come to the Pastoral Center by themselves. We enjoin parents or guardians to give this matter serious thought. Thanks for your kind attention and response.
