3 HOLY NAME OF JESUS TREE OF LIFE PROJECT To mark Holy Name of Jesus Church s 85th Anniversary, a Tree of Life, a bronze tree trunk with approximately 400 leaves was installed at the back of the Church. Donors will have their names, or those they wish to honor, engraved on the leaf. The proceeds of the donations to the Tree of Life will go towards a much-needed Capital Improvement Fund. It is well known by all who gather here that we are constantly dealing with many repairs needed in our aging buildings (circa 1941, 1949 and 1964). We are confident that the funds raised from the Tree of Life will provide for some of the necessary expenses that we anticipate for the future. The Holy Name Tree of Life was unveiled and blessed last Sunday at the October 10, 2010, at the 85th Anniversary Mass and Pastor s Installation presided by Most Rev. Robert McElroy. Each leaf costs $500 with a $25.00 engraving charge. 4 FAZtor s Notes By Fr. Arnold Zamora The irate customer calling the newspaper office loudly demanded to know where her Sunday edition was. Ma'am, said the employee, today is Saturday. The Sunday paper is not delivered until Sunday. There was a long pause on the other end of the phone, followed by a ray of recognition. "I'll bet that's why no one was in church today too." Well, we got the Sunday paper last week and our church was packed for our big celebration. Besides the paper, there were other things delivered last week. The liturgy was beautiful. Bishop McElroy, who presided over the Mass, delivered an inspiring and insightful homily. Realizing I was delivering a litany of tens, he also gave Holy Name Church a 10 (rating), and another 10 for me. Well, he likewise deserves a 10 from us. The music was great with Tony Eiras, our music director, conducting a string quartet, some wind instruments and a choir which was composed of the 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM choirs, the Chinese and Vietnamese Ministries choirs, the Youth and our school hand bell ringers. Enhancing the Offertory procession were the liturgical dancers from the Vietnamese Ministry. These are just some of the wonderful things that were beautifully delivered last Sunday, not to forget the classy reception and program that followed at Ryan Hall. I tried to express my gratitude to everybody, especially to those who were in the sanctuary. But like the irate customer in our story, my memory slipped. I forgot to mention Bro. Douglas Draper, SJ, our Master of Ceremonies. Usually, when we have lapses in memory, we attribute it to senior moments. I m glad our seniors just accept it with great humility. I should also accept that becoming a pastor means I ll probably be having some senior moments. No excuses, I was just overwhelmed with all that was happening. Who wouldn t when everything was delivered so beautifully. The Gospel was about the ten lepers and only one came back to give thanks. There were also exactly ten priests who concelebrated. I failed to acknowledge one priest from St. Isabella Church, Fr. Alner Nambatac. I apologized to him at the reception and he humbly responded, Don t worry about it; I just thought I was that one leper who came back and gave thanks. OCTOBER ROSARY DEVOTION (CHAPEL) 6:30 PM except Wednesdays when it begins after the Benediction at 7:30 P.M. HOLY NAME LADIES AID COLLECTION Today, members of the Holy Name Ladies Aid Society will be collecting for the needy in the Parish. Boxes will be at the exits. World Mission Sunday Collection: October 23/24 Next Sunday is World Mission Sunday, a day set aside for Catholics worldwide to recommit themselves to the Church s missionary activity through prayer and sacrifice. The needs of the Catholic Church s Missions are growing as new dioceses are formed, new seminaries are opened, and as areas devastated by war, natural disaster, or political suppression are rebuilt. Approximately 1,150 mission dioceses receive regular annual assistance from funds collected through this special appeal. Special envelopes are available for your use. Please be generous. Faith Formation Conference Friday, November 19th & Saturday, November 20th, 2010 at the Santa Clara Convention Center.
