We Gather in God s Name Prelude Ray Freeman Welcome and Announcements Passing of the Peace Leader: The peace of the Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Song of Praise Today Praise Band Call to Worship One Voice: These our hearts are yours. We give them to you, Lord. Many Voices: Purify our love to make it like your own. One voice: These our eyes are yours. We give them to you, Lord. Many Voices: Help us see the world as with your sight. One Voice: These our hands are yours. We give them to you, Lord. Many Voices: Give us strength and ability to do all work for you. Hymn #65 Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah Prayer of Confession Gracious God, so often there is a disconnect between our faith and our actions. We know of your call to be loving, but we can be irritable and self-centered. We are grateful for your forgiveness, yet we can be slow to forgive. We think ungenerous thoughts and speak ungracious words. Continue your work in us, O God. Make fruitful our imperfect discipleship and our best intentions, and forgive us where we have fallen short of your will. In Your name we pray, Amen. Assurance of Forgiveness One Voice: The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting unto everlasting. As far as the East is from the West, so far has God removed our transgression from us. In the name of Jesus Christ, we are all forgiven. Many Voices: Thanks be to God! We Proclaim God s Word Anthem Back to the Church in the Wildwood Arr. 4 Today is Preschool Sunday. We welcome Preschool Staff, Preschool Children and Alumni, and their Families to worship. The Preschool Staff are: Teachers: Teri Estes, Helga Beckman, Wende Lavinder, Ahne Huska, Susanne Kelty, Betty Jirak, Melissa Donaghay, Amy Krehnbrink, Debbie Lucier, Susan Woodworth. Director: Judy Phillips, and Administrator: Holly Cook Upcoming Retirement. Following worship on November 11, we will be honoring Ray Freeman, Grace s organist extraordinaire, who is retiring from the position he has held for 19 years. Please plan to be present after worship on November 11th as we celebrate Ray s ministry along with family and friends. GRATEFUL GIVING AND LIVING Peace is ACTIVE, not PASSIVE. Peace is DOING, not WAITING. The Peace and Global Witness Offering provides tools to share Christ s peace with each other here and around the world. You can make a difference by supporting the peacemaking initiative of PC(USA): 25% stays in our community, 25% goes to Tent of Nations on our behalf, and 50% supports Presbyterians who are actively working for peace around the globe....peace at all TIMES in all WAYS - II Thessalonians 3:16. Hunger Challenge. Pick up a list of ECHO s most needed items from our hunger bags located around the church. These items are in short supply and must be bought if they are not donated. Up to 40 bags of food go out to ECHO clients in a single day, enough food to last a client family for several weeks. An item or two from each Grace family will fill the bags and provide for needy neighbors. Thank you! Bridges to Worship. The final word is, children from Kindergarten through 3rd grade are welcomed in Bridges to Worship. When there is no Bridges to Worship, K-3rd graders remain in the sanctuary with their families. Advent Season. It s a little early for Advent, but not too early to see who wants to edit Our Christmas Story. This year, we are going to prepare an anthology of our visual and written memories of Christmas. Our editor(s) will collect materials and lay out the booklet with help and support from the office. Join Virginia s Volunteers! Sunday Subs. Children s Discipleship is in need of more teachers and subs for children s classes. Please contact Mary Shoemaker if you would like to sub or teach. The Office. We are still looking for people to help in the office from October 19-29. If you can help in the office assisting the pastors and greeting visitors, please call. It s Time To Clean Up. The stage and the downstairs kitchen have become congested with items stored in unsafe places. Please mark what you store and store it away from walkways and off the top of kitchen cabinets. Think Safety First.

5 Grace Tutoring. We are seeking tutors and subs for our Monday night Tutoring Program held at Grace from 7-8:00 p.m. Call JoAnn Holmes or Tammy Juba. Blood Drive. Please sign up outside the Library to indicate you are willing to donate. With others from the wider community, we hope to have a firm date soon. Always. Ongoing signups and invitations to participate abound for Sunday worship: liturgists, children s messengers, and communion servers, Chancel Choir, Joyful Ringers, Praise Band, and Children s Choir. Offer your help when you see a need. UPCOMING EVENTS Conversations/Pub Theology - Tuesday, September 25, 7:30 p.m. Don t let the week s news get you down. Let Nelson know you are coming. Soul Shop for Youth Workers - Friday September 28, 9:00 a.m. Grace is hosting a one-day, seven-hour, faith-based training event designed to equip youth workers and those who care to minister to young people who are impacted by suicidal desperation. Preschool Consignment Sale - Saturday, October 13, 8 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Come shop for gently used and like-new maternity and children s items at GREAT prices for you, your kids, or the grandchildren!
