2 THE CHURCH GATHERS The candle is lit as a symbol of our prayers for peace. Words of Welcome and Announcements Rev. Christa Fuller Burns Prelude Soldiers Joy Adelie Scoville, violin Traditional *Please, stand if you are able. (The congregation will read the words in bold.) *Call to Worship One: A word of encouragement came from prophet to people; All: Live a life that is full build, plant, eat, love, multiply-- One: Pray for your communities All: Keep God in the center of all that is. One: We enter into worship today with hope in our hearts All: For something happens here that reminds us that we can live as God desires One: God has made a promise of faithfulness to us All: And we can trust the promise. Amen! *Hymn 267 Come, Christians, Join to Sing MADRID Prayer of Confession All: And we find ourselves in exile caused by relationships, economics, and failing health. All: We feel used by people and systems, sometimes even abused. All: We thirst for God s promised justice through swift vengeance. All: We strive to protect our families and our interest from any harm. All: We long for the day when peace will prevail. All: May our actions embody our prayers for healing of the community and therein may we find our long awaited wholeness. Amen. Silence is observed. 2
3 Assurance of Pardon One: This is what God says to us: surely I know the plans I have for you, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. When you call to me, I will hear you. When you look for me, you will find me. If you look for me with all your heart, I will let you find me. I will restore you and gather you together. All: Thanks be to God. Amen. *Sung Response 322 We Are One in Christ Jesus SOMOS UNO 3
4 *The Peace of Christ One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. All: And also with you. TO PROCLAIM AND EXPERIENCE GOD S WORD Moment with Faith Kids Play It Again Luke Bryan Adelie Scoville, mandolin Prayer for Illumination We are ready to listen, O God, for your word in our lives. May our hearts be open and our spirits brave so that we will not only hear you speaking but live out what you tell us. Amen. Lesson Jeremiah 29:1, 4-14 One: This is the word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. Amen. Sermon Living According to the Plan Rev. Burns *Hymn 351 All Who Love and Serve Your City Prayers of the People & The Lord's Prayer CHARLESTOWN Rev. Burns Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. OFFERING Offertory Anthem Creator of the Stars of Night arr. John Scott Creator of the stars of night, thy people s everlasting light, O Jesu, savior of us all, regard thy servants when they call. Thou, grieving at the bitter cry of all creation doomed to die, didst come to save a ruined race with healing gifts of heav nly grace. Thou camest, bridegroom of the bride, as drew the world to evening tide, proceeding from a virgin shrine, the Son of Man, yet Lord divine. At thy great name, majestic now, all knees must bend, all hearts must bow, and thing in heav n and earth shall own that thou art Lord and King alone. To thee, O holy on, we pray, our judge in that tremendous day, preserve us, while we dwell below, from ev ry on-slaught of the foe. All praise eternal Son, to thee, whose advent set thy people free, whom with the Father we adore, and Spirit blest, for evermore. Amen. Offering Prayer 4
5 *Doxology OLD HUNDREDTH TO GO FORTH INTO THE WORLD TO SERVE IN CHRIST S NAME *Hymn 826 Lift High the Cross *Benediction CRUCIFER Rev. Burns Now unto God who is able to keep you from falling and to present you faultless before the presence of God s glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen. The service concludes with the following postlude. Please maintain a worshipful silence. Postlude Heavens Declare Benetto Marcello (c. 1724) LEADING WORSHIP TODAY Rev. Christa Fuller Burns, Pastor Dr. Samuel Springer, Minister of Music and Organist., Liturgist The Chancel Choir Adelie Scoville, violin & mandolin 5
