Thanks to everyone for all your help in making the 16th annual Mayfest for Missions the success it was at First Presbyterian Church. It could not have been accomplished without the hard work of all our members working as a team. Once again you have proven that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Many thanks for allowing me to be your chairman again this year. All our local missions will be blessed by your efforts. We have learned that several of the wedding dresses will be remade into burial dresses for stillbirths and one is being shipped to Haiti for a wedding. When our goal is to help others, we never know how far-reaching the results may be! P AGE 4 Vacation Bible School: The Marketplace in Galilee (June 23-26) Vacation Bible School registration is now open. You may download the form from our website or fill one out at the church. Forms are in the church office or on the table near the elevator. Please call Anne Mauldin or Kathleen if you can help with a preschool class or in the marketplace. We could also use some help in setting up on Friday, June 13 at 7:00 p.m. We are going to have an exciting week filled with stories of how Jesus healed, taught and loved. Each day kids will spend 45 minutes in the marketplace where they can make bread, weave, do wood working and leather craft, make jewelry, make a dry rub, tye dye a pillowcase, or make a piece of pottery. Just as Jesus did, children will go to Hebrew school and learn scripture and write letters in Hebrew. Come and be part of the fun and learning. Registration will end on June 9. Registration is limited to 100 including 24 spots for preschoolers. Our denomination designates this month each year to encourage members to write a will and as part of that process to include their church in the will. Over the years, First Presbyterian Church has benefited from members who have included the church in the settlement of their estates. Our congregation benefits annually from endowments created as a result of bequests from some of our faithful members. We worship in a newly renovated sanctuary with a magnificent pipe organ because of the bequest of Mary Sorensen. Her gift continues to give annually to the maintenance of our building because of the endowment established in her name. We have resources for helping with medical mission trips because of the generosity of Betty Berryhill and the endowment she left for medical missions. Just before his death, Fred Webb and his wife, Nell, established an endowment for the benefit of our church. After the death of Harding Sugg, Sr., his family established a scholarship endowment in memory of Anna Belle and Harding Sugg, and each year a student from our congregation benefits from this lasting gift. It has long been my belief that if members of the church would simply leave a tithe of their estates to the continuing work of Christ in their community, their mission and ministry would continue long past their lives. Because we so firmly believe in this principle, Wanda and I have included the congregations we have served in our will. I challenge each of you to examine your will and how your estate will be divided and to prayerfully consider including the church as a part of those who will benefit from your life s work. Bill
