Child care is offered during rehearsals. Chancel Choir meets each Wednesday evening from 7-8:30pm and leads the 11am worship service on Sunday mornings. This choir is for 9th grade through adulthood. In addition to singing for worship each week, Chancel Choir prepares special music for Advent and Lent. Anyone who enjoys singing is invited to join us on Wednesday at 7 - no audition required. Child care is offered during rehearsals. Cherub Choir (PreK-1st grade) and JAM Singers (2nd-5th grade) will kick off a new year on Sunday, September 18th. 4 Youth News: Rally Day was a great kick off to the new school year. I really enjoyed seeing everyone there and again at the Church Picnic and I had a great time, aside from the Steeles whipping me in corn hole. It was a great way to kick off the year. Confirmation Class of if you are an 8th grader or higher and are interested in joining this year's Confirmation Class, please let me know. It is highly encouraged to come to the Mid High Retreat although not mandatory. Confirmation is the opportunity for students to reaffirm their faith and become a voting member of the congregation. Members of the class will participate in a series of Sunday School classes and retreats. Each member will have the opportunity to select a Sponsoring Elder or Mentor to help them along this path. One can also be assigned. Parent Meeting/Pot Luck Supper--We will be meeting on Sunday, September 18th beginning at 5:00. Chicken will be provided and I am asking people to bring a side dish to share. During the meeting we will talk about different service projects, mission trip, confirmation, ski trip, and Youth Sunday along with the calendar for the year. After we eat, there will be activities for the Youth while we hold our parent meetings. Mid High Retreat--October 7-9 at Camp Don Lee. It is open to all 6th-8th graders and is going to be a great time of fun, fellowship, and worship. This year's theme is "Storm Chasers of Faith". The cost will be $125, however, the Education ministry will pay a portion of this in support of our program so that the cost per participant will be $ If you have to cancel and do not attend, you will be responsible for the total amount. I will have the registration forms at the Parent Meeting for everyone to fill out and I will collect them that evening as I have to send them off on Wednesday. Upcoming Dates--mark your calendar!!: September 18th--Parent Meeting and Youth Kickoff (Pot luck supper) September 25th--Regular Youth October 2nd--Ultimate Youth beginning at 4. 6 FIRST FRIDAY CLUB We had a terrific first meeting last Friday at the church. There was a big turnout and everyone had a great time. Our next meeting will be on September 30th. We will be at the church and the cost is $5.00 for dinner. First Friday Club is for all 4th and 5th graders. Bring a friend! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Brian Dilday at or fpcyouthgreenville@gmail.com. Dear Brothers and Sisters, This coming Sunday, we begin our annual stewardship emphasis. While stewardship is a year-round endeavor, it is always important to take a few Sundays and emphasize the need for each of us to contribute not just with our presence or with our work, but with our money to support the work that we do together. This year s theme is More Than Enough and each Sunday, we will emphasize one aspect of our congregation that if we all contribute and do our part, we would have more than enough to accomplish these goals. Being a church is so much more than buildings or programs or staff or worship or fellowship. While all of these are important aspects of our being the church, they are not the church. The church is us, the people. It is we who reach out to invite others to join us. It is we who maintain the buildings and the flowers beds. It is we who teach the Sunday School classes and lead the women s organization and the men s organization, and carry out the programs for our children, youth, and adults. It is we who participate in worship with our singing and praying and reading and praise. It is we who reach out the hand of Christ to others through our missions to the community and the world. We are the church. Church is not a place, church is not a program, church is us. We have more than enough to make this the church that Christ is calling us to be but that only happens if we do it, not the preacher, not the Session, not the they, but us. As we move through this season of stewardship and commitment, may God inspire each of us to commit ourselves afresh and anew to be the body of Christ together. This Sunday our emphasis theme is More Than Enough: to Grow. I hope to see you Sunday as we learn what it means to grow into the church of Jesus Christ known as First Presbyterian, Greenville, North Carolina. Bill Neely
