1 The Service of Worship Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost September 2, :00 a.m. A Call to Quiet Meditation The congregation is asked to observe a time of silence during the prelude to prepare our hearts and minds for worship. Prelude With High Delight, Let Us Unite setting, Ernest Pepping Chiming of the Hour Greetings and Welcome The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you. And also with you. Concerns and Celebrations of the Church Fellowship Registration Please pass the fellowship pad found at the end of the row, record information, and return the pad to its starting point. Then please remove sheet and place in the offering plate when it is passed. *Call to Worship We gather together today in joyous celebration of God s glory and grace. We open our hearts to the presence of God and the goodness of God s way. Lord, accept our worship and strengthen our faith! O God, fill us with the wonder of your grace! Help us, Lord, to behold the glory of creation in gratitude. Teach us, O God, how to love one another, as you have loved us. Let us worship God. *Hymn #19 God of Great and God of Small GOD OF GREAT AND SMALL *Prayer of Confession (unison) Lord, our God, forgive us that we so often give our best to the wrong things. Sometimes we put far more enthusiasm and thought and effort into our pleasures and our games and our amusements than we do into our work and spiritual lives. Sometimes we keep our best behavior for strangers and our worst behavior for our own homes; and often we treat our nearest and dearest with a discourtesy and a disregard we would never show to strangers. Sometimes we lose our temper in an argument about trifles. Sometimes we allow very little things to cause a quarrel with a friend. Help us, Lord, to see what is important and what is unimportant, so that we may never forget the things that matter, and so that we may never allow the things which do not matter too much. Hear now our silent prayers of confession...

2 *Period of Silent Prayer In our Savior s name we pray. Amen. *Assurance of Pardon Hear the good news from Micah 7:18-19: Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever, but delight to show mercy. You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea. We praise God for the gift of Grace! We strive to practice the Grace of God in our daily lives. *Congregational Response #447 We Are Forgiven WE ARE FORGIVEN We are forgiven. We are forgiven. Thanks be to God. Thanks be to God. We are forgiven. We are forgiven. Thanks be to God. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. *Hymn #518
