Fourth Sunday 2 April 22, 2018 A MESSAGE FROM FR JOSEPH Dear Friends, I believe we were all happy for our Newly Confirmed and First Communicants and their families last Sunday, the 3 rd Sunday The celebrations were wonderful and prayerful! Thank you Bishop Zinkula for your reverent celebration of the Confirmation and the good homily reminding us of our baptismal call to be witnesses of the Risen Lord All of our confirmation candidates looked great! Thank you Sister Peggy Duffy, Mr Marvin Wellman, and Ms Madeline Taylor for working hard to instruct our young men and women during the process of formation May God bless you all! Regarding the First Holy Communion, thank you Sister Peggy Duffy, Ms Karen Schumaker, Mrs Emily Neeley, and Ms Jessica Wolken who have prepared our children for a couple of years so that they could understand and be able to receive Jesus the first time in their lives May the Lord always bless you! Fourth Sunday 6 April 22, 2018 END OF THE MONTH MEALS The monthly End of the Month Meals will be this week, Monday, April 23rd through Friday, April 27th from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm They are served at St John United Church of Christ at the corner of Tenth Street and Avenue E There are no income qualifications or requirements to meet Children are welcome CATHOLIC HOME MISSIONS The bishops' Subcommittee on Catholic Home Missions is a grant-making agency It offers financial support to missionary activities that strengthen the Catholic Church in the United States, and in its territories and former territories Through its annual fundraising campaign, the Catholic Home Missions Appeal, Catholic Home Missions educates American Catholics about mission needs and invites them to assist fellow Catholics in the practice of the faith The Appeal primarily supports home mission dioceses, that is, those dioceses in the United States that are unable to offer their people the basic pastoral ministries of word, worship, and service without outside help It may also give grants to other dioceses in the US for particular projects, and to organizations and religious communities engaged in missionary work The Subcommittee funds a wide range of pastoral services However, it principally focuses on (1) evangelization activities, (2) religious education, (3) ministry training for priests, deacons, religious sisters and brothers, and laypeople; (4) support of poor parishes across the country The Catholic Home Missions Appeal will be collected next weekend Please be generous CRUSADER S CORNER Time is running out!
