We fast to remove the things that get between us and God, and to remember those without enough to eat. Our support for the Rice Bowl ensures that the Catholic community of the US is present in nearly 100 countries worldwide, serving the poorest among us through Catholic Relief Services. FAZtor s Notes By Fr. Arnold Zamora Congratulations to all the boys and girls who received their First Reconciliation this weekend. The Sacrament of Reconciliation, also known as Sacrament of Penance or Confession, brings us back to God as He forgives us our sins. It is also a celebration of God s mercy and forgiveness. There is always that comfort and peace that we experience when we are forgiven and God s grace abides in us. Somebody asked whether they can do confession online or by email. The answer is No, because the person going to confession and the priest hearing the confession must be in the same physical place. So it is not possible to celebrate this sacrament by phone, letter, e-mail or fax. Wouldn t it be funny to hear a priest asking the penitent, can you just fax me your sins? How about automated confessionals? Hmmm, I m sorry the machines are not ordained. Someone shared these thoughts with me. Most of us have now learned to live with voice mail as a necessary part of our lives. Have you ever wondered what it would be like if God decided to install voice mail? Imagine praying and hearing the following Thank you for calling heaven. For English press 1. For Spanish press 2. For all other languages, press 3. Please select one of the following options: Press 1 for request. Press 2 for thanksgiving. Press 3 for complaints. Press 4 for all others I am sorry, all our Angels and Saints are busy helping other sinners right now. However, your prayer is important to us and we will answer it in the order it was received. Please stay on the line. If you would like to speak to: God, press 1. Jesus, press 2. The Holy Spirit, press 3. To find a loved one that has been assigned to heaven press 5, and then enter his social security # followed by the pound sign. (If you receive a negative response, please hang up and dial area code 666) For reservations to heaven, please enter JOHN followed by the numbers, 3 16. For answers to nagging questions about dinosaurs, life and other planets, please wait until you arrive in heaven for the specifics. Our computers show that you have already been prayed for today, please hang up and call again tomorrow. The office is now closed for the weekend to observe a religious holiday. If you are calling after hours and need emergency assistance, please contact your local pastor. Thank you and have a heavenly day. The Second Va can Council: A 50th Anniversary Retrospec ve By the twenty-first Ecumenical Council of the Catholic Church, October 11, 1962-December 8, 1965; Edited by Jerry Back Let us not fear that truth might endanger truth." Abbot Christopher Butler; Debate on De Revela one: Congrega o Generalis XCV, Acta Conc. Va can II - Periodus III. Translated from the original La n. Ques on: How is charity connected with our calls to holiness? Answer from Lumen Gen um: Thus it is evident to everyone, that all the faithful of Christ of whatever rank or status, are called to the fullness of the Chris an life and to the perfec on of charity; by this holiness as such a more human manner of living is promoted in this earthly society. In order that the faithful may reach this perfec on, they must use their strength accordingly as they have received it, as a gi from Christ. They must follow in His footsteps and conform themselves to His image seeking the will of the Father in all things. They must devote themselves with all their being to the glory of God and the service of their neighbor. In this way, the holiness of the People of God will grow into an abundant harvest of good, as is admirably shown by the life of so many saints in Church history. Editor s Note: Bishop Butler's quote "Let us not fear that truth might endanger truth" is something to hold and keep. The magisterium of the Church has been guided and protected for 2,000 years by the Holy Spirit. We can have faith that a Church Council, where bishops in communion with the Pope convene to produce magisterial teachings, will be inerrant and trustworthy. It makes me also recall Paul's le er to Timothy (1 Timothy 3:15): But if I should be delayed, you should know how to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and founda on of truth. The Church's magisterium is a gi to us in a modern age where moral compasses are considered to be rela ve to each individual. Paul tells us that the Church is the pillar and founda on of truth. Jesus tells us that the Church will always prevail and that whatever it binds on earth is bound in heaven. Along with our Sacred Scripture (i.e., the Holy Bible), we've got some awesome resources down here to help us through life! We o en find ourselves drawn to dig deeper into our Catholic faith. You are encouraged to explore more at: h p:// www.va can.va/archive/ At the Va can s website, you ll find a wealth of free and complete Catholic resources including the Bible, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Code of Canon law and the en rety of the Second Va can Council. THE TV MASS: The Catholic Mass airs Sunday mornings KTSF (26) at 6 AM Comcast Station 8 KOFY (20) at 6 AM Comcast Station 13 Televised Mass for the homebound and shut-ins who cannot come to Church. The TV Mass is produced by God Squad Productions with Msgr. Harry Schiltt as celebrant.
