Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord April 16, 2017 HOLY FAMILY PARISH ST JOSEPH CHURCH Fort Madison, IA 52627 Montrose, IA 52639 Sacred Heart Ss Mary and Joseph 508 Cedar Street 2217 Avenue I 410 11th Street HOLY FAMILY MISSION STATEMENT To celebrate, live, nurture and pass on the Catholic faith The Lord is Risen, Alleluia! May the Risen Lord Bless You and Your Family with His Gift of Peace and Joy Fr Joseph Fr Mark Sr Peggy and Staff

Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord 2 April 16, 2017 Dear Friends: A MESSAGE FROM FR JOSEPH The Lord is Risen! Alleluia! Jesus Christ is Risen from the dead and he calls us to rise with him to a new life St Paul said in his letter to the Romans, "Are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life" (Romans 6:3-4) Through his death and resurrection, Jesus calls us out of darkness and death to his new life From now on, our lives have meaning, and purpose and beauty, because we share Jesus' life and resurrection Our lives have a new direction and destiny We no longer belong to this world We are no longer living for this world We are not satisfied with the shallow existence of materialism and self-gratification The resurrection of Jesus has transformed us The power of the Risen Lord empowers us and guides us on our earthly journey through his Holy Spirit If we allow God to work through us, and if we just strive to be united with his Spirit, then we will come out of the tomb and live eternally Alleluia, alleluia! Reality has been transformed Those who have died to selfishness have received immortality "We live the Life of Christ!" The Risen Lord also gives us the ability to make his presence real for others As the sun rises in the East to begin a new day, may this Easter of 2017, the celebration of the transformation of the world, bring us all a new commitment to living the death and life of Jesus in our own lives and make us ready to respond to the call of discipleship: loving God, loving others and building his kingdom on earth I would like to take this opportunity to thank many of our parishioners who gave wonderful hands during the Lenten Season, especially the Holy Week, to make our liturgies and celebrations prayerful and reverent May The Risen Lord reward your good hearts! Happy and Blessed Easter to the People of God, especially the people of Holy Family Parish in Fort Madison and St Joseph's in Montrose Alleluia! The Lord Is Risen! CARE OF THE SICK SPECIAL EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS April 23, 2017 FMHC/FMCH/SB Joyce Kutscher HOMEBOUND Sandy Martinez KENSINGTON Jim McInteer PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR DECEASED Bart Prado FEAST OF DIVINE MERCY Jesus told St Faustina that this Feast of Mercy would be a very special day when "all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened" (Diary 699) Our Lord made a great promise to all those souls who would go to Confession and then receive Him in Holy Communion on the Feast of Mercy, on the Sunday after Easter, which is now called Divine Mercy Sunday throughout the Catholic Church Jesus promised that "The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain the complete forgiveness of sins and punishment"(diary 699) He went on to say "I want to grant a complete pardon to the souls that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion on the Feast of My Mercy" (Diary 1109) The Divine Mercy Celebration in the Keokuk Deanery will be held at St Alphonsus Church, 607 S Jackson St, Mount Pleasant, IA 52641, on Sunday, April 23, with the celebration starting with confessions at 2:00 PM; devotions at 3:00 PM; and Mass at 4:00 PM This Mass fulfills the Sunday obligation We want to encourage everyone to take advantage of this incredible promise and the additional Plenary Indulgence on this great Feast of Mercy, "Divine Mercy Sunday" We want you to benefit fully from these promises, and we also want you to notify all of your family and friends about them too and urge them to return to the practice of their faith A note on Reconciliation: The Church allows for you to go to confession up to 20 days before or after Divine Mercy Sunday Those who have already confessed their sins within that time period are asked to allow others to receive this Sacrament during this time OFFICE CLOSED The parish office will be closed this Monday, April 17th Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, April 18th
