Fifth Sunday 2 April 29, 2018 A MESSAGE FROM FR JOSEPH Dear Friends, April is almost over The celebration of the Resurrection of the Lord seemingly took place yesterday! In reality, it has been a month! Time flies, as people say This week we enter May, month the Church honors the Blessed Virgin Mary in a particular way During the month of May, I encourage you, as an individual and as family, to spend more time in prayer with the Blessed Virgin Mary, especially with the Rosary May the Blessed Mother continue to intercede for us, for our families and our parishes, Holy Family Parish in Fort Madison and St Joseph Parish in Montrose There are two major celebrations I would like you to take part this month First is the Feast of Pentecost, which falls on May 20th this year The 8:30 AM Mass of Pentecost at Sacred Heart will be celebrated with seven languages The Mass will be followed with a multicultural breakfast as we continue to share the fellowship in the Sprit of God I truly love this multilangual Mass and the celebration They remind me of our identity, belonging, and mission We all belong to the Church established by Jesus for the salvation of humanity and all creature Therefore, under the guidance of the same Holy Spirit, we are to work together to build God s Kingdom on earth Second is the Parish Picnic which takes place on June 2 nd at Rodeo Park I would like to invite you all to join me in giving thanks to God with the Holy Mass at 4:00 PM for all His blessings upon our parish Also, I d like to use this picnic as the opportunity to express my gratitude to all our parishioners who, by all means, spiritual and material, big or small, known or unknown, to help build our faith family this past year Let s gather together for fun, faith, family, and for the celebration of our success Peace in the Risen Lord STS PHILIP AND JAMES As in the case of the other apostles, we see in James and Philip, human men who became foundation stones of the Church, and we are reminded against that holiness and its consequent apostolate are entirely the gift of God, not a matter of human achieving All power is God s power, even the power of human freedom to accept His gifts You will be clothed with power from on high, Jesus told Philip and the others Their first commission had been to expel unclean spirits, heal diseases, announce the kingdom They learned, gradually, that these externals were sacraments of an even greater miracle inside their persons - the divine power to love like God Sts Philip and James are the Patron Saints of Uruguay ~ Franciscan Media RECTORY OPEN HOUSE On May 19th and 20th, after the 4:00 pm AND 10:30 AM Masses, there will be an Open House at the rectory All parishioners are invited to stop by and see the newly refinished wood floors, as well as just take a tour of the house The Open House will last a couple of hours after each Mass COME WALK WITH ME by MARK FORREST Mark Forrest will once again be at Holy Family Parish The Come Walk With Me evening is a time for us to reflect on our personal relationship with Jesus Christ During the evening, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed, and Mark Forrest, Irish tenor, will take you through an evening of music, reflection, and healing Consider taking an hour with the Lord as he invites you to a closer walk with him The date is May 14th at 7:00 pm at Sacred Heart Church This event is free and open to everyone
