Psalm Praise the Lord, who heals the brokenhearted (Psalm 147). Second Reading Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel. I have become all things to all, to save at least some (1 Corinthians 9:16-19, 22-23). Gospel Jesus cured many who were sick with various diseases (Mark 1:29-39). OFFICE HOURS Monday-Thursday 8:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. Closed for lunch 12:00 1:00 p.m.; Friday 8:00 a.m.-12 Noon p.m. HEALING MINISTRY During Jesus ministry he cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons. This is the case in today s Gospel. Jesus fulfills the vision of Psalm 147: He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Jesus knew, however, that he couldn t possibly heal all the illness in the world. No matter how many people he cured or how many hours he ministered, there always would be more suffering people like Job who craved his healing touch. His primary mission was not to rid the world of all suffering. His purpose was to preach the coming of the reign of God that heals, yes, but ultimately transcends and transforms earthly suffering. With Paul, Jesus could have said, Woe to me if I do not preach that good news. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co.

Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time - February 8, 2015 Watch for Fr. Bill s column next week! NEW BEGINNINGS A Ministry of Hope, Healing and Consolation New Beginnings is a Bereavement Ministry designed to provide support to Christian individuals who have experienced traumatic loss in their lives. The grieving process can cause a sense of feeling disconnected, dismayed and can fill the individual with a sense of hopelessness and despair. New Beginnings offers several services that will gently accompany the bereaved and the parish community in their adjustment to the fact of death and to the sorrow this entails. HOPE Catholic Funeral Mass Planning and Coordination - Our faith reminds us of the sure and certain hope that our loved one who died in Christ will rise with him on the last day. A compassionate and non-judgmental funeral coordinator will guide you in planning a beautiful funeral liturgy for your deceased loved one. You will be assisted in choosing Scripture readings and hymns that express our Christian hope in Christ s saving death and resurrection. Contact: Patti Fitzpatrick 702-459-7778 HEALING Grief Facilitation - Blessed are they who mourn; they shall be consoled (Matthew 5:3) This support group offers trained individuals to help the bereaved understand the process of grief. In these classes, individuals examine their feelings during this intense period and look at coping mechanisms to move through the process feeling guided and not alone. The service has structured classes on various topics and also offers sessions for participants to examine their experiences and share with others in a safe environment led by a facilitator. Contact: Susie Cram 702-459-7778 CONSOLATION Helping the Bereaved - If one member suffers in the body of Christ which is the Church, all the members suffer with that member (1 Cor. 12:26) When a member of Christ s Body dies, the faithful are called to a ministry of consolation to those who have suffered the loss of one whom they love. This is an in-service offered to help individuals who are close to, work with, or know someone who has suffered a loss, but who are not sure how to help the bereaved. The instructor will teach the participants the stages of grief, describe normal grief behavior and share ways to journey with the individual they want to help or support. Contact: Susie Cram 702-459-7778 Help with Immigration Laws If you or someone you know would benefit from immigration help, Nevadans for the Common Good at Christ the King has scheduled a workshop Sunday, February 22 nd, from 3:00 6:00 p.m. to discuss recent Executive Actions signed by President Obama regarding Immigration laws: (DACA) Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and (DAPA)Deferred Action for Parental Accountability. Torrey Pines Drive, Las Vegas NV 89118. The main message is threefold: To urge those who are interested to get ready for the requirements for application that will be released soon. Those eligible must start collecting their documents. To begin saving money for the application fee which will cost $465. To watch out for fraudulent people who will promise assistance and take money without really helping. If applicant has any criminal records, NCG suggests you see an attorney. Felonies are automatically declined. Get our new Holy Spirit App for your smart phone! Page 4

Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time - - February 8, 8, 2015 2015 Music Notes from Debbie WANTED: Guitar and bass players. This is such an amazing and MUSICAL community. I am grateful to note that the singing is strong at all of our liturgies, and our instrumental community has really grown; most weekends we are blessed to hear flute, violin, cello or saxophone at several of our liturgies, involving both youth and adult musicians, and we consistently have drums at 3 of our weekend liturgies! However, we are still in DESPERATE need of those who can play guitar or bass (or piano, really!) Right now, we depend on just 3 individuals who carry most of the rhythm for the entire community! I d LOVE to have the beautiful rhythm that only a guitar or bass can provide at more of our weekend liturgies. If you play the guitar or bass, will you consider sharing your talents with us? Rehearsals are held every other week, and you can play as little as once a month, depending on what your schedule will permit! I provide ALL music lead sheets and chords! So please, think about it and then COME and JOIN US! Your community needs you! 5pm: We are also trying to build a youth oriented liturgy at 5pm, and in order to do that, we need a vibrant, rhythmic sound to support and encourage youth participation! Currently, Louie and his youth provide such a vibrant, energetic sound (TWO or THREE guitars, bass, drums, 5-6 singers - WOW!) once a month, which is WONDERFUL! Wouldn t it be AWESOME if we had that kind of energy and participation for the other 3 weeks?!?!?! SO, are there are any young people (high school or young adult) out there who sing OR play an instrument, especially guitar, bass or drums? (parents, why not encourage your kids?) The plan is to hold ONE big rehearsal each month, either on a Thursday OR Sunday afternoon, and then we just come together ONE HOUR prior to Mass to rehearse easy, huh? Please call me at Holy Spirit, or talk to Louie or any of the core-team musicians, and as soon as we have your name and information, we ll get that going! There s definitely a place for you here! Thanks, as always, for your support and encouragement! We have an AWESOME community! Catechesis of the Good Shepherd we sure could use your help! Over many years CGS (Catechesis of the Good Shepherd) has developed numerous materials for the children to work with in the atrium. These include small models of the various objects children would see in their churches, dioramas and figures to accompany the reading of scripture, prayer cards, maps of the land of Israel, timelines of the history of salvation, and resources for further study of scripture and liturgy. We always observe and listen to the child s responses. In the Montessori environment, the children were understood to possess an inner teacher - now recognized as the Holy Spirit - who directs the child toward the most essential of their own growing relationship of the divine. Come join us on the journey! We are in need of Catechists this could mean you. Classes begin this month, we will get you nationally certified in a rewarding area of your faith children Teresa Chisholm Chisholm.tm@cox.net - 702-292-2234 Page 7
