Sixth Sunday of Easter 2 May 6, 2018 Dear Friends, A Message from Father Joseph In the Gospel reading of the 6 th Sunday of Easter, Jesus commands His disciples: Love one another He gives them the model of love, As the Father loves me, so I also love you Remain in my love If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father s commandments and remain in his love LOVE is a very common word It is easy to say; it is not easy to do when it comes to the way of love Jesus demands For Jesus, love implies a daily DEMAND Love demands something of us When Jesus commands His disciples to love one another, He gave one, very clear and concrete example of love: that is to lay down one s life To lay down one s life is not only to say a nice word, or buy a present, or do not cause trouble To lay down one s life is to give who I am to the needs of another In reality, we prefer to stay in our comfort zones: I am too busy, too tired, too inconvenienced, to do something, anything We want love when it makes us feel good When it demands that we change, we see things differently, we claim we are not in love any more We like service if it makes us feel good We are uncomfortable when love demands we do more, change more, offer more Jesus tells us that only when we re willing to lay down our life for others, then we will be like Him, we will be His disciples, and peace and joy will fill our hearts, our families, and others How about loving our faith community? I know you do Then, what could you do? I would like to invite you to participate in the ministries of reading and giving Holy Communion at the Holy Mass Serving God in these ministries should be considered the highest privilege in life Our trainings will take place on Saturday, May 19th, at Ss Mary and Joseph Church; Lectors at 9:30 AM and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) at 10:00 AM I encourage our young people, especially those who recently received the Sacrament of Confirmation to join these ministries Let us keep in mind Jesus words, This I command you: love one another May the Lord fill our hearts with his blessing this whole week RECTORY OPEN HOUSE On May 19th and 20th, after the 4:00 pm AND 10:30 AM Masses, there will be an Open House at the rectory All parishioners are invited to stop by and see the newly refinished wood floors, as well as just take a tour of the house The Open House will last a couple of hours after each Mass COME WALK WITH ME by MARK FORREST Mark Forrest will once again be at Holy Family Parish The Come Walk With Me evening is a time for us to reflect on our personal relationship with Jesus Christ During the evening, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed, and Mark Forrest, Irish tenor, will take you through an evening of music, reflection, and healing Consider taking an hour with the Lord as he invites you to a closer walk with him The date is May 14th at 7:00 pm at Sacred Heart Church This event is free and open to everyone You are cordially invited to a Mother s Day Breakfast at Roling Hall on Sunday, May 13th after the 8:30 am Mass Menu Quiche Fruit salad Pastries Drinks Everyone is invited Bring your family and loved ones to this celebration of all mothers and women who have been there for others Peace, Joy, and Love in the Risen Lord
