8 Jimmie Evelyn Smith Jimmie Evelyn Smith, resident of Ponca City, passed away Monday, May 10, 2010, at Westminster Village. She was 81. The service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 15, at the Trout Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Bigger, pastor of First Free Will Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will then follow at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ponca City. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory. Jimmie was born Dec. 23, 1928, to Lee and Bessie Patterson Underwood in Talihina. She graduated from Ponca City High School. She received a bachelors degree from Oklahoma State University. She was married to Elvis Smith on Oct. 22, 1949, in Ponca City. She worked as an English teacher for West Junior High School in Ponca City. She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church and was involved with the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW and the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her two daughters, Glynda Wilson of Ponca City and Marsha Smith of Miami, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elvis Smith; her parents; two sisters, Gladys Wooten of Shawnee and Oneita Gargiulo of Ponca City; and two brothers, Everett Underwood of Ponca City and Bill Underwood of Shawnee. 15 Consecutive Golden Wedding Anniversaries include three of Marsh and Ida s children Arromanus Lyle and Lucinda Delony Jeffreys Campbell were married 58 years Daughter, Ida Saxon and her husband, Marshall Mattison Smith, II, were married 56 years. Jeptha Thomas and Joyce Aileen 50 th occurred in Their 60 th was celebrated December 6 th, 2007 with many loved ones in attendance Two of Jep s brothers and their wives followed the pattern of more than 50 years. Elvis Earl and Jimmie Evelyn Underwood were married 1949 and marked their golden in Robert Kaye and Mildred Francis Schockman, an only child, married in 1950 and were married 59+ years Both couples lived most of their married lives in Ponca City, OK.

45 Robert Kaye "Bob" Smith, resident of Ponca City, passed away unexpectedly in Ponca City Medical Center on Monday, May 10, He was 81 years old and was a longtime resident and businessman in Ponca City. Robert was born on Sept. 3, 1928, to the late Marshall Mattison Smith, II, and Ida Saxon Campbell Smith in Wewoka. He attended Ong and Justice grade Schools in rural Wewoka. Robert obtained his high school diploma from Wewoka High School. Robert volunteered in the U.S. Army with two of his cousins in October of 1946 and had his basic training at Fort Lewis, Wash. Later he was assigned to the 32nd Infantry Regiment in Seoul, Korea in January of 1947, where he remained the next 15 months. He was a light truck driver and hauled supplies across the 38th parallel. The decorations he obtained were the Bronze Star Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Honorable Service Lapel button WWII and the Sharpshooter Badge with rifle bar. He was honorably discharged and arrived back in the States in March of 1948 and came to Ponca City where his parents had moved. He soon met the love of his life, Mildred Schockman, who he married on July 7, 1950, in Winfield, Kan. They would have celebrated being married 60 years in July, Robert began his furniture career working for his aunt and uncle, Jim and Clara Tribble, at the Ponca City Mattress Company. He later worked a brief time at the Cities Service Company in Ponca City. Robert opened his own furniture refinishing and upholstery shop in 1953 and was self-employed the rest of his working career. In 1974 he bought the Ponca City Mattress Company which was later known as Smith Home Furnishings and is now located at 2500 North 14th street. It is a locally family owned and managed furniture store. Robert helped coach his sons baseball teams at the Ray Lessert Ball Park and led them to win several tournaments. He had a strong faith in God and loved his church. Robert and Mildred have been active members of Northeast Baptist Church over 40 years where they worked with eight-year-old children in Sunday school for many years and served on various committees. They volunteered on the funeral dinner committee for 10 years.

46 Robert was a "people" person and loved being with friends and family. He had a been a member of Ponca City Noon Lions club for over 40 years and just last year they awarded him with the Life Membership Award in recognition of long term exceptional leadership and devoted service to the Lions Club. He also was a non-active member of Tippers Club for many years. He was a generous and unselfish man and enjoyed helping others. He loved his family and always was willing to be a part of their lives. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed driving his old 1947 Ford in the Veterans Day parades and Dragging Grand. Robert is survived by his wife, Mildred of the home; daughter, Karen Hunter and husband Keith of Ponca City; son, Larry R. Smith and wife Charlotte of Ponca City; son, Roger K. Smith and wife Lisa of Farmington, Minn.; grandchildren, Eric R. Smith and wife Rebecca of Richmond, Texas, Ryan Kaye Smith and wife Melissa of Rosemont, Minn., Kyle R. Smith of Montgomery, Md. and Jason M. Smith of Ponca City, Stephanie Blum and husband Danny of Ponca City, Ryan A. Smith and wife Kelly of Coppell, Texas and Brian Hunter and wife Kendra of Oak Park, Ill. His great-grandchildren are Brendan, Catie, Miles, Luke and Kinnah. He will be greatly missed by all this family. Also surviving are his sister, Ollie Mae Graham and her husband Gerry of Bartlesville; and his brother, Jep Smith and his wife Joyce of Center Point, Texas; sister-in-law, Johnnie Smith of Wewoka; aunt, Mary Campbell of Ponca City; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers, Elvis, Marshall III, Manus; and a sister-in-law, Jimmie Smith. Service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, May 14, at Northeast Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Nigh officiating. Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ponca City. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.

53 And then Johnnie Services for Wewoka resident, Zella "Johnnie" Smith, were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, at Hilltop Baptist Church in Wewoka. Burial followed at 3 p.m. at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ponca City. Johnnie passed away Friday, May 14, 2010, in Oklahoma City at the age of 65 years. Johnnie Smith was born May 16, 1944, to Orlin "Dusty" and Ally Maxine Runyan Eeds in Pauls Valley. She graduated from Laverne High School and later married her soulmate, Manus Smith, in 1975 in Oklahoma City. Together they owned and operated Magnum Valve Company in Oklahoma City for many years until Manus retired and purchased a ranch in Wewoka, where they have resided since retirement. Johnnie loved to shop and spend time doing interior decorating and traveling. She was a wonderful cook and loved taking her grandchildren to the movies. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her. Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Manus Smith; and her son, Jay Cox. She is survived by her son, Kip and wife Crystal Smith and their children, Kreece, Kason, and Kinsey Smith; Kaden Boswell and Cooper Boswell of Wewoka; Jay's children, Seth and Keegan Cox; sisters, Pat and husband Forrest Lea, of California; and LaHoma Koch of Fairfax. Casket bearers were Justin Sipes, Nick Arthur, Kelly Babb, Scotty Davis, Monte Phillips and Simy White. Honorary casket bearers were Gary Thomas, Keegan Cox, Seth Cox and Chris Hall.

55 May 2010 Three passings in one week took place in the Smith family Jimmie Smith had been in nursing home care for several years. She passed away Monday at noon Robert and Mildred visited Jimmie the night before she passed Robert knew Jimmie had passed away. Then Robert had a massive stroke at 6 p.m. with family in attendance Johnnie had been ill. She passed away minutes before Robert s funeral began on Friday On Saturday, Jimmie was laid to rest by Elvis

56 The next week family gathered again, in the same IOOF cemetery, to say farewell to Johnnie Three loved ones, aunts and uncles of the younger generations, were laid to rest in one week, in the same cemetery and two were unexpected passings
