Roger Cary You will make the fiftieth year holy, proclaiming freedom throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It will be a Jubilee year for you: each of you must return to your family property and to your extended family. (Lev. 25:10) We are entering the month of August. I again have the blessing bestowed by our Bishop to serve you for another year. Soon we will enjoy the Fairfax Fair as we have done together for the last 4 years. For many of you this is a special year as it is the 50th celebration of this event. That brought to my mind the idea of Jubilee. Jubilee was first spoken of in our scriptures we call The Old Testament. It refers to property rights (this was a time when not only land was property, but people were property also). In the jubilee year all was supposed to be returned to its original holder/ family. Yet throughout scripture, throughout history, there is no indication that this was ever enacted in a corporate manner as other directives, laws, and statutes were. One might question why this has not been spoken of by the prophets or the priests of that time up to and even now. Some might suggest that it is because we have become so connected with what we consider my property that we cannot fathom the financial burden this would entail. I want to suggest something different to you today and throughout this month as we prepare ourselves to worship together on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at 10:30 AM in the park. The suggestion is that we have been granted a permanent Jubilee through Jesus Christ. One of the newer songs we sing periodically in church is Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone). The chorus goes: My chains are gone, I've been set free My God, my Savior has ransomed me Continued on page 2
2 Continued from page 1 And like a flood His mercy reigns Unending love, amazing grace Friends, I declare to you today, if you are a disciple of Jesus Christ you are living a jubilee life. Your chains are truly gone and you have been set free. May God richly bless and keep you until we meet again. Yours in Christ, Pastor Roger August with the Ministerial Alliance s Worship-in-the-Park Sunday, August 16th (hosted this year by Fairfax UMC) Churches & organizations are asked to help celebrate the 50th Fairfax Fair by entering floats in the parade August15. If you are interested in taking on this project contact the church office. First Day of School: Wednesday, August 19 We have a large assortment of baking dishes, plates & bowls on the table in the room next to the kitchen that need to be claimed by the owners. Audio/Visual System We are still looking for 4-5 people to look into what would be our best option to get hearing impaired devices added to our system. Whether that would be: adding to our current sound system, fixing our current system, or purchasing a new system. We have memorial money designated to start the fund and wish to apply for a Missouri United Methodist Foundation Grant to cover the remaining cost. The application is due by Oct. 1, so we need to have a team looking into options by August. Please let the church office know if you can be on this team. We would like to have young and old, men and women! If you know a little about technology...great! But not a requirement! Please call or umc@fairfaxmo.net or let Charla Graves know you will help.
3 Seenagers Seenagers will be meeting on Saturday, August 1 at 6:00 PM at Joy Wok in Maryville. We were suppose to meet there in May but cancelled because of too many conflicts. 8 FAIRFAX MESSENGER AUGUST 2015 Fairfax United Methodist Church 305 N. Broadway P.O. Box 318 Fairfax, MO Address Service Requested Fairfax, MO U.S. Postage Paid Non-Profit Org. Permit #10 Dear Friends in Fairfax, JOB SECURITY JULY 2015 THANKS Job Security: no problem with MK ministry! The Law of Supply and Demand' came to mind as I reflected on the proportionately few people and groups who desire to minister to missionaries. One of my Barnabas colleagues (trauma counselor) recently had to turn down an urgent situation because she was already dealing with crises for three missionary families and an MK! Supply: There are about a dozen different Transition Seminars held throughout the country, sponsored by Barnabas and other groups. Demand: That is a very small number compared to the number of 18-year-olds arriving in the U.S. every summer. They need and desire to understand this culture of their parents heritage as they begin to live here independently. Cost: this is relative. In some ways the cost is minimal, but the investment is enormous. Thank you for your investment which in turn, allows me to invest personally in Missionary Kids! This includes time, energy, prayer, relationships, and funds to travel to the Transition Seminar in Ohio sponsored by Barnabas. Job Security: There is no foreseen end to this annual migration! What a privilege to partner with you on behalf of missionaries, encouraging the kids so mom and dad can continue fulfilling their calling in all parts of the globe. Rejoicing Securely, - Judy Keith Mu Kappa Regional Coordinator, 1301 E. 123rd Terr. #C, Olathe, KS 66061,
