Buckeye Connection V O L U M E 5 0 I S S U E 4 A P R I L, Ohio JCI Senate 50 th President Sherry Fitzgerald #68598 Greetings OHIO JCI SENATE, I N S I D E T H I S I S S U E : PVP 2 AVP 3 Brown Bag 3 Treasurer 4 50th 5 Scholarships 5 COB 6 Secretary 6 It is amazing to me how time has just flown by. The holiday season came and went, but the snow and ice stayed around much longer than any of us really liked. But, the show must go on and so did the traveling... January, we headed to St. Augustine, Florida and the snow and cold followed us. We had a wonderful time celebrating the accomplishments of the senate and spending time with our fellow friends. January also saw scholarship judging. The snow stayed away for this event, YEAH!!!! Congratulations to Chairman Melissa Schnipke # on another successful scholarship judging. February saw us in Columbus at the Embassy Suites with the Ohio Jaycees again. We had a great time celebrating their yearend and welcoming New president Melissa Salamon # We wish you the best of luck and blessings in your presidential year. Also, a school out to Scott Fitzgerald #63745 for emceeing the Jaycees award ceremonies for the 2017 year. Congrats on a job well done and for giving back! March saw a large group of Ohio Senators heading for Springfield Illinois and our Region V Spring Fling. As if the meeting wasn t exciting enough, NVP Ray had to throw in more excitement and get ALL of our hearts racing. He definitely has a guardian angel watching out for him! Since NVP Ray could not be with us our own Allison Geddes #74777, helped set up Skype so he could be a part of the evenings awards program. Kudos to Allison, you are amazing. Our own Jenny #64688 and Jon #58932 Bruner won a region award for their hard work on our superior Ohio hospitality and VP Joe Callison #71418, won Outstanding State Officer. These awards are well deserved and intensely earned! So proud of you all. Also, at Region V Spring Fling, OHIOs very own Vicky Dempsey #58206 was elected as Region V NVP. Ohio is so proud and honored to support Vicky in this endeavor. As April comes in, so does a milestone for the Ohio JCI Senate as we celebrate our 50th Anniversary in Columbus. President John Robinson will join us as will many past Ohio Senate Presidents, National Presidents, and other distinguished guests. We look forward to you all celebrating with us. A huge THANK YOU to the committee of Past Presidents and Chairman Bruce Geddes # We are excited to start the next 50 years of the Ohio JCI Senate. May you all be blessed as you continue living the creed and showing that SERVICE TO HUMANITY IS THE BEST WORK OF LIFE!
P A G E 2 Programing VP Joe Callison #71418 Greetings Senate Family, Wow! It s hard to believe that another year is coming to a close in the Ohio JCI Senate. It has certainly been a great year. Especially the past three months. In January we travelled to St Augustine for the USJCI Senate Winter Boards, where President Sherry was recognized for Living the Creed, and our very own Vicky Dempsey announced her candidacy for Region V NVP. A great time was had by all. In February we attended the Ohio Jaycees Year-End, where my beautiful bride Kristi was named as the 2017 JCI Senator of the Year. We also had an outstanding Senate meeting that weekend, as well. During said Senate meeting, we had several members announce their candidacies for office in the Ohio JCI Senate. If you haven t already heard, those candidates are: Yours truly for President; Michele Tomer for AVP; Ruby Weymouth for PVP; and Allison Geddes for Secretary. In March we took a trip to Springfield, IL for the Region V Spring Fling. Despite NVP Ray s health issues, we had a fantastic time. Vicky Dempsey was elected as our next NVP, and Jenny & Jon Bruner were recognized for the wonderful job they do with the Ohio JCI Senate s hospitality. Now it is time to get ready for the big Ohio JCI Senate 50 th Anniversary celebration. I m looking forward to seeing many of you there. I know the committee has been working hard to plan this event and it promises to be real hum-dinger of a party. Of course, we will also be holding our annual elections that weekend. As mentioned, I am running for 51 st President of the Ohio JCI Senate and I d like to officially ask you for your support. I know we are going to have an awesome team as our Board of Directors, and I would be honored to serve as your president. As always, if you have any questions don t hesitate to contact me. Safe travels, until we meet again. Joe Callison # Programming VP Ohio JCI Senate Jcallison71418@gmail.com B U C K E Y E C O N N E C T I O N
P A G E 3 Brown Bag Auction We will be holding a Brown Bag Auction at the end of the Ohio JCI Senate business meeting on the 50 th anniversary weekend in April. This auction is held to raise funds for the Patty Robinson memorial to the Coshocton County Dollar for Scholars program. A scholarship will be given in Patty s name to a senior in high school in Coshocton County.. If you got a gift at Christmas that you do not like, need or a place to keep it place it in a bag and bring it in April for the auction. The more bags we have the more money we can raise. I am in need of an Auctioneer. If you are interested in doing this let me know. Marilyn Jones # mmjones@bright.net AVP Ruby Weymouth #67303 I am dreaming of warmer weather. Not sure if it will ever get here. Have you ever heard the saying It s good to be a dreamer, but it s better to be a planner and a worker? Sometimes I will hear or read something that I spend awhile thinking about. This phrase made me think that maybe you can t have one without the other. Seems to be the same with the senate, without Jaycees there wouldn t be Senators. I still find myself encouraging people to join. It is forever in the blood I think. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at year end in Columbus. Please consider stepping up to serve when asked because there is no I in TEAM. **** Quality is not an act, it is a habit Aristotle Respectfully submitted, Ruby A. Weymouth #67303 AVP, Ohio JCI Senate
Treasurer Jon Bruner #58932 P A G E 4 From YOUR Treasurer and friend. On the 1 st of March we renewed 76 members and had 2 new member adds. We did have to drop 5 members (1 of which passed away) to put us at Minus 5 for the year so far. We did pick up one new Life member in March. Thanks, Mark Cenci #75936 for committing to a life membership being Life Member # 315. The next dues billing to the US Senate will be due on June 1 st when we will be renewing approximately 111 members of which are not life members and will be getting a Dues billing notice in early April. So please send in your dues as soon as you get the bill. That will make my job so much easier and save us the cost of sending a second billing notice or dropping someone that doesn t want to be dropped. We had a great time in St. Augustine even though the weather was a little cooler than we had hoped for. Like I said we still had a great time with a whole bunch of great friends. Jenny and I will be heading to Myrtle Beach to join Region 4 Senators at their Spring Meeting in April and be coming home just before Ohio s 50 th Anniversary, so it looks like April may be a very busy time for the Bruners along with a few others that will also be making the trip. Hope to see you all in April at the Ohio JCI Senate s 50 th Anniversary in Columbus, and don t forget the Brown Bag Auction to support the Coshocton Dollars for Scholars in the name of the Patty Robinson Memorial. Once again, thanks for your support. If you need to get a hold of me for any reason please feel free to do so in any way that works best for you. Ohio JCI Senate Treasurer Jon Bruner # County Road M Wauseon, Ohio Jdb58932@gmail.com
P A G E 5 Scholarships Judging Saturday January 27, 2018 I need to thank the Senators who came to Delphos to help judge the scholarships this year. Again we had a large number of applications submitted which takes a long time to review and makes for a long day. Melissa Schnipke #70590 The winners who will each receive $1, scholarship Shea Smith Edison High School Makenzie Rae Kreitzer Franklin Moore High School Emily Landin Ottoville High School Allison Abke Eastwood High School Andra Kay Grant Sandusky High School Kaylynn Rounds Hubbard High School Madison Nusbaum Columbus Grove High School Ohio JCI Senate 50 th Anniversary The celebration is only 28 days away and planning is coming along nicely. We have 23 past presidents committed to attending as well as the national senate president John Robinson 55765; Region V Vice President Ray Ainslie and national senate Treasurer Lawrence Pittman At this writing (4/1/18) we have 69 registrations and expect at least 20 more. Also in this newsletter is a tentative schedule for the weekend. Hope to see you all there.
P A G E 6 18 th Annual Ron Robinson Memorial Charity Golf Tournament To all JCI Senators, Jaycees, and friends. Yes, it is that time of year again. Time to think about the Ohio JCI Senate C&E Foundation annual fund raiser. Because of your support the foundation has been able to award more scholarships and in a greater amount. With the contributions of years past and your great support of the foundation through the golf outing we were able to award seven $1,000 this last year. In order, for the foundation to continue this great generosity we need your support more than ever. There are several ways to support the golf outing. We are looking for golfers. Keep in mind this outing is open to the public. A monetary donation can be made in any amount. If you would like to be a special donor there are different types of hole sponsorships. This year the first hole is to honor Mr. James Hall, JCI Senator #16055 and Mr. Tim Farron, JCI Senator # These JCI Senators are no longer with us but we are sure they would thoroughly be supporting the efforts of the foundation. The first hole is a minimum of $50 donation. A par sponsorship is $100, a birdie sponsorship is $300, and an eagle sponsorship is $400. We also have closest to the pin and long drive sponsorships for $150. The 19 th hole sponsorship is $200. Besides cash sponsorships we are looking for team prize donations and raffle prizes. If you have not already done so, get those donations to us. You can find the golf registration forms and the sponsorship form at A note to those who will be golfing or helping at the golf course the day of the event, July 21, If you are looking for a JCI Senate hotel the one closest to the golf course is the Comfort Inn & Suites, 590 Bonapart Dr., Napoleon, OH, , Room Rate $94.00, Room Block under JCI Senate. We hope you will invite your friends to participate in this year s fund raiser. The Annual Ron Robinson Memorial Charity Golf Tournament is open to the public and donations are always greatly appreciated. Who knows the recipient of one of our scholarships just might raise the curiosity of someone wanting to know more about the Jaycee movement and they just might become an Ohio JCI Senator helping to keep the legacy alive. If you are receiving the newsletter by hardcopy mail and need the golf outing forms call Charlie Eberhardt at A form will be sent directly to your mail box. Thank you to all that have already signed up to golf and to those that have made their donation this year. Help us to continue the great success of this worthwhile annual fund raiser. Charlie Eberhardt, P.E. JCI Senator #54887 Ron Robinson Memorial Charity Golf Tournament Co-Chairman
